Here is my take: I highly doubt a change in the canopy's condition occured between when you received the canopy and when you stored it. It was stored in a closed closet, in a box. There is obviously a difference in opinion between how the seller views the condition of the canopy and how you and your rigger view the condition of the canopy. The seller can probably get away with telling you to pound sand, you waited a long time to inspect. I think it would be best for the seller to return you your money less shipping, and for you to give the seller the canopy back. If the canopy is really worth 1600 he will be able to sell it for that same amount again, the seller is made whole. If the canopy is worth less that 1600 he will get what it is worth down the road. You didn't contribute the canopy's current condition. It just appears to be a much better solution that asking for a partial refund. Just start from scratch for both of you. I don't think he is trying to screw you, I think he has a completely different understanding of the condition of the canopy. If you were the seller you would be equally suprised. I don't really get why any government computers, or any business computers, are left unencrypted any more? Every single PC and laptop should be encrypted, no exceptions. Good for you. Some still understand that a video is a compliment to the skydiving experience. We are skydiving center not video centers, many dropzones with only 182 can't give up the slots for outside video. You would rather there be no video or half the number of jumps? 3.5% is a respectable interest rate for a car loan. With all of your ranting and raving about the banks and bankers it is really a shame that any of them will extend you credit at all. I don't know where you got this sense of entitlement that the banks should bow down and suck you off you because you approached them for something that you needed, credit! Credit unions are great. Credit unions have to make sound business decisions not unlike the banks that you MNF on a daily basis. If they make piss poor lending they fold up just like a bank. Their purpose is to remain solvent for their members. If a credit union held the first mortgage on your condo they also would be refusing to write down the loan the current FMV. They wouldn't have refinanced you either on an underwater property. You would be on here bitching about how screwed up credit unions are, and how they were crooks, and this and that. By his own admission it wasn't only bad timing that has contributed to his underwater situation. He took out an exotic non conventional loan structure that required zero down. I think it would be much more realistic to move seasonally. In the summer get your winter dropzone lined up. Do the same during the winter for the summer season. That is a load of crap, the video is tame, and no whuffo is going to have the frame of refrence to have any idea what is happening. Other than the canopy collision we don't even know the full extent what is happening, the video doesn't show the canopy in flight, and we don't get to see it stretched out on the ground. The video raises some serious questions about that guys knowlege and common sense, but it is nothing that is going to scare non jumpers. I use a beat up worn out F111 pilot chute that is size "too small". It lends itself nicely to hesitation and then diving line twists on most openings. Really need to get a new one! "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
