Could be freefall, given that there is a ribbon in that connection that may have been rippled one too many times from wind. I don't know much about the guts of the SD HC series, but in the PD170 vs Z1, they went to a double thick membrane over the ribbons. *IF* it's just the ribbon, it's a very easy fix, one you can almost do yourself. But with only 200 skydives, it definitely shouldn't be dead already. Any chance you got a Mack warranty on it?

I did try Cordura, not heavy enough, I don't think. I saw an older pair of wings on a suit and was too dumb to ask what they were made with. The light plastic is an idea, however. Cost isn't too much of an object (How expensive can it really be?) Color is no issue, function over fashion.
-
I'm confused. If it was "unpublished," then how could folks remember it?
-
In this same vein, I'm trying to find something to sew into my wings to stiffen them, but failing to find something that would be durable, reasonably flexible, but would stiffen the wing. Anyone have suggestions?

I think that's the big point...they wouldn't say "Die." Doolittle's firebombing took nearly as many lives as both Hiroshima and Nagasaki combined. Their own lives meant nothing to them; they'd been taught they were nothing all their lives. If they became dead in honor of the Emporer, then their lives had meaning. Otherwise, they were nothing (in their way of thinking at the time). A tougher people never existed. But it doesn't surprise me that some bastardization of old cultural behaviors finds it's way back to the surface.

we always hear about the firebombing and atomic bombs, but few talk about the brutality of the Japanese during the same war, towards any non-Japanese. Beheadings were common, even to the point of a pair of high-ranking officers having a contest to see who could behead the most (one hit 105 in a week, the loser only got 102). America napalm-bombed Tokyo because the culture of Japan at the time didn't believe in surrender, they believed in fighting to the absolute death. Additionally, Japan never ratified the Geneva Conventions, and as a result, horribly treated Americans, with the primary attitude of "We don't take prisoners." Dismemberment has long been a part of Japanese culture. Remember the Ginzu knives?

LOL, if Jumpshack has signed a license agreement, you'd probably have heard about it while the ink was still wet, says "Scotty." -
So who's good enough to make a jump with an experimental camera?
DSE replied to ntrprnr's topic in Photography and Video
HDD's aren't going to fail in a single freefall, not to my experience anyway. I've jumped several times with a Sony DR60 with the specific intent of learning how many jumps it takes to kill it. So far, 30 jumps in and it's ticking strong. Man, shooting a flocking dive would be terrific with this camera if the demo vids are any indication of what it can do! -

Compression isn't the direct cause of this, GOP is related, but no decompression/compression is responsible. This'll be worse if you're using old/previously used tape. when you hit record, if more than 5 minutes have happened since the last time you hit record, several things happen; ~Last frame is decoded to observe timecode ~last header file is read to see where in the GOP structure the frame sequence was (I/B/P) ~Check for break in structure and/or timecode. Get used to this when dealing with GOP formats, which is essentially everything in the future. You *can* enable quick record in some camcorders, but I've found that this can create problems at capture, depending on the NLE system used.

Looking really closely at my HC, I can't see how the hinge on the door could really cause much, other than the door flapping into the connector, or similar. The connectors, even under a magnifying glass, are too substantial to be blown by any force. There is the chance that the wind is being re-directed by the door? What happens when you gaff the door area that isn't covered by the LANC? Any change?

Very nice to read about one DZ helping out another, competitors or not.
-
There are differences in how they all fit your body, differences in how the reserve is opened, and differences in how the flaps cover the main and risers. Differences in tucktab systems, internal covers, etc. Most important diff, IMO, is how it feels on your body, as you're the one wearing it. I tried on a lot of rigs at various DZ's, none of them exactly my size of course, and tried on a number of rigs at the PIA conference as well. I ended up settling on a Rigging Innovations Talon FS because I like their features, and the fit. Slightly longer wait-time, but anything custom/good is worth waiting for.

Thank you very much! Could you PM me with the author's name, and name of publisher so I can get clearance to use the images there? That's exactly the sort of thing I'm looking for.

Baron von Raschke...that's an oldie. Years ago I was head of the audio department at a civic venue, and would run sound during the wrestling meets. von Raschke would sit in the stands during setup, was a hoot to listen to. He also carried a small piece of razor in his wristguard to cut his forehead so he'd bleed. It was always fun seeing his Claw come out, and he'd squeeze apples or whatever fruit was available. Hulk Hogan was just getting started in those days, he was also a very cordial guy out of the ring. FWIW, the AWA was the first promotion group (AFAIK) to come up with the idea of mic'ing the ring floor. Their stage rider was incredibly detailed for how the mat had to be mic'd and mixed.

A filter inserted behind a wide angle will usually create refraction/reflections, so in a way, yes, it will mess up image quality. A UV on it's own will increase contrasts and give you a generally more saturated image. It'll clean up blue castes, and depending on the glass, will warm up your image. One thing a UV filter can also do, is strip some of the blues from the sky, since you've now removed the UV. Step up rings are cheap; there are kits of various sized stepup rings that can be purchased on Ebay for around 5.00 or so. They're cheap aluminum, but they work just fine. you might want to put some nose oil in the threads to keep them smooth.

FWIW, I've seen a couple Cameye's that have gotten weird in either the switch or the cable at various connection points. Could it be the microprocessor in the CamEye switch is sending an "off" signal due to a short? Maybe connect the CamEye, start recording, and move your fingers along the cable and wiggle the cable at the connections and see if there is a short?

Find the guy that absolutely is very qualified, but refuses to take the job. That's a good start. The guy that really wants the job should be automatically disqualified. Richardson is well spoken, IMO. So is Fred Thompson. Mitt Romney is well spoken, which means he's good at spinning lies into "mis-remembrances" or "As I've grown older, I've changed my mind on a lot of things." Such as "When I was younger I was an avid, active hunter" translates to "I went hunting for birds twice but never hit anything" and "I am in favor of a woman's right to choose" that became "I do not support abortion in any way." And my latest favorite "I can't support gay marriage, but do accept civil unions," which is now "Gays are an abomination." Be careful, it's a dangerous world out there.

11 GOP Congressmen to Bush: You’ve Lost Credibility
DSE replied to ryoder's topic in Speakers Corner
By that logic, let's follow examples of other former presidents. Andrew Jackson regularly engaged in duels, and killed a man for casting slurs upon Jackson's wife. I suspect our cowardly president wouldn't partake. -
11 GOP Congressmen to Bush: You’ve Lost Credibility

Gettin' kinda lonely at the top. It must suck to be a spineless, appeasing, treasonist cut-and-runner President who wants nothing more than to embarrass his electorate and embolden their enemies. I'll bet he couldn't even repeat that sentence aloud without grinning. "It's hard, hard work being at war," he says with a grin on his face, "We're all struggling." Yet from the grin on his face, either he's getting a blowjob beneath the table, or a fat wad of cash in his bank account that he'll take to Disneyland when his time is up. Getting rich on the war must be damn difficult. He deserves to be lonely. -
Canada has just been added to the State Department's dirty dozen shit list of pirate countries thanks to the MPAA. As you know Valenti headed the MPAA at one point. Quote No....they weren't added to the Piracy Watch list because of the MPAA. They were added because; A-Canada has not ratified WIPO treaties. B-IIAP has demonstrated that a significant number of films have been pirated in Canada, and the law enforcement/Customs in Canada have indicated they have no authority on which to enforce anti-piracy laws at the border C-It's not the first time they've been there. D-Canada is on the lower-level watchlist, which they can easily exit by complying with agreements they've signed in the past. E-It's the six degrees of Kevin Bacon not MPAA, RIAA, or any other ingredient of alphabet soup. ***I think you filter all information when it challenges your predisposition even when it is in the link. Truer words could not have been written. I thought you didn't like pirates. How is it that the links I post are "lies" and the links you post are "truth?" An accurate portrayal is found somewhere in the middle, wouldn't you agree? Meanwhile, I've got pirates selling my media on Ebay. Do you?

~http://www.engadget.com/2007/05/01/canada-a-hotbed-of-piracy/ ~http://www.calendarlive.com/movies/cl-et-piracy4may04,0,1537071.story?coll=cl-movies ~http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20060327.gtflpiracymar27/BNStory/Technology/ ~ http://www.danwei.org/ip_and_law/blame_canada.php ~http://www.itworldcanada.com/a/Network-World/96a01194-c294-4e11-8534-ede53103c5f3.html For every one opinion, there are at least a dozen more, equally intelligent (or not) from an opposing side. No matter what the issue. Coincidentally, just today there were two industry articles about people irritated at having their bags/purses searched prior to entering "Spiderman 3" in Canadaian theatres in an effort to help Cineplex (theatre chain) ward off potential liability related to piracy. More interesting is that the Canadian content owners, theater distributors, DVD distributors, and consumer advocates all agree that piracy is a big issue in Canada. Is Canada related to Jack Valenti, DRM, Linux, or the right to make a personal DVD copy? Then there is alway the real truth and value to this particular thread....
