  1. Officer was given leave and took a communications class. He still faces civil charges from the driver.
  2. T-shirts? Weather reports say it's 50 degrees? I'm pretty cold blooded, but that's not Tshirt weather for most of us.
  3. I admit, I started with a camera on me early, jump 125 or so. However...I set out from jump one to *only* jump camera. I went to Perris at jump 30 and spent a lot of tunnel time with Ed Dickenson, and kept going back to either Perris or Eloy with my DZO to work on various things. McGowan was a big help too, as were Jay Stokes and Norman Kent. Norman really spent a lot of time with constructive criticism; he's a terrific instructor if you ever have the opportunity to take a class with him. My observation is many people fresh off student status start freeflying as soon as possible, whereas my DZO, knowing what I wanted to do, made me stay on my belly and he pushed me hard. My first camera jump was with him. My second through 15th camera jumps were with Jay Stokes shooting tandem evaluations. Even with that training, looking back I realize how little I knew, and thankfully didn't have any problems in the early jumps. Either way, I owe a lot of thanks (and beer) to a few of people that pushed hard with me in the first couple hundred jumps. Still learning. Folks like Laszlo, SDCTLC, Trunk....always willing to offer advice and constructive criticism.

    Name the DZ

Actually, I just kept returning to the scene of the crime, but he could be heard throughout the park
  5. I'll see you there Dave. It's gotta be warmer there than here, yeah?
  6. Are you suggesting the Sony is more safe than a Cookie, Waycool, or Royal? The Sony SONY VCL-0625S is roughly 3 times as thick/long as a Cookie, Waycool, or Royal lens, and has a flare which is quite a bit larger than the front of the camera, whereas a Cookie, Waycool, or Royal lens would sit flush to the camera housing.
  7. I have a Cookie mount, it's not any different than Schumacher or some of the others. I've ordered a Tonfly that has the Converter built in to it, so will have an informed opinion in a few days.
  8. Squeeze does a better job of .264, IMO, and many PC-based apps do a significantly better job. On2 does a much better job than anything Apple or Adobe offers for Flash, but that's where their value ends. Were I only working in iMovie, I'd recommend the same thing you do; trial and error. Not that hard to figure out bitrate vs length of time. One min of vid to 5MB of space is about 575Kbps bitrate, so I'd run it at 500Kbps to stay safe. And at that bitrate, it should be very sweet.

    Name the DZ

Mine is better. Better sound, too
  10. Wow. With the largest budget in the USA, the FBI can't pay their bills? So much so that phone service is terminated? An agent "steals $25,000.00? Lost evidence?
  11. There is a toss up depending on bitrate, between Flash and MP4/.264. I prefer mastering web to iPod-ready mp4 and allowing the various UGC sites to do the conversion for me. That said, Apple doesn't yet have a good exporter to .264 compared to outside tools such as Squeeze, etc.
  12. As a small point, it's not really reasonable to say "this is equal to XXX from other manufacturers, as it varies so greatly. Additionally, if you're not comparing the lenses on the same camera with the same zoom settings, you're not coming from an equal baseline. The widest setting is rarely the same on any individual model camcorder compared to another.
  13. I don't know if it's bi-directional. Once I get a prototype in-house, I'll test it. One thing that is becoming pretty clear; skydivers will need to have a laptop or other computer at the DZ one way or another.
  14. yes, they do work, but they memory function does absolutely nothing/stores nothing/reads nothing, so you're spending $$ on a non-use functionality. I've used them in situations where they've been the only tape in a box within reach. But it's an expensive use.
  15. It should. If it's not, it's another one of those very rare situations. Unlike analog video, DV is just bits, and no different than DLT backup systems. Speed not withstanding, there are occasionally incompatible data tracks and error correction issues, but they are incredibly rare.
  16. Any DV camera will properly playback any DV tape. There are some rare instances where 15fps progressive from Canon won't play in older Sony, but it's exceptionally rare. For Xfer's, you can get by with a very cheap DV camcorder or deck.
  17. Yeah...strange. Made with Mac, but opens fine on my PC. Just my Mac it won't open with. Locks up and have to restart the page. Nice site though.
  18. Your photo gallery locks up both Safari and IE.
  19. If the officers had one of these he coulda at least providing some calming music to the victim. This product was my vote for the most unusual CES product this year.
  20. check out the Echo from Bonehead. Cheep, effective, easy.
  21. Sorry JP, Quade's got it right. Now, if YOU'RE the guy with the money (your production) do whatever the hell you want. It seems in weddings and sports video, slo-mo is far, over used and grossly misused. Rather than slowing down or re-living the moment, create more moments to watch.
  22. So if I visit the UK to jump, I have to purchase a BPA membership for $300.00 in order to jump?
  23. I predominantly share your opinion, but the reality is quite different than either of us would like it to be.
