Exactly. But the different voicing removes the tension between the high B and the low C you're using for suspension, and it allows the suspension to feel more smooth and organic. You'll have to play them both ways to decide which you prefer. I tend to like "clean" suspension vs "dissonant" suspension.

I'm actually quite surprised at your statement. I had thought consensus had changed considerably in the last few years. I'm a camera flyer, and my setups are often big and bulky. Either with or without an RSL, a main entanglement with a camera helmet must be cleared before that main is cutaway. Cutting away a main that's still attached to your helmet is a recipe for an instant broken neck. Jumpers with broken necks can't open reserves themselves. Dealing with the entanglement before cutting away bypasses any issues with a any kind of RSL, and keeps your neck healthy. While I don't have any RSL on either rig right now, a SkyHook is definitely an option for my next rig. _Am I've seen two videos of camera helmet entanglements and in one of them, the camera flyer wasn't aware the helmet was entangled until he cut away his main. As mentioned previously, it boils down to your own feeling, and your awareness of your choices and the intentionality behind those choices. I don't know that there is a "right" or "wrong" to either choice, which is the point I was making earlier. Some folks probably do feel I'm a moron/stupid/whichever because I choose not to use a Skyhook/RSL system. I'm sure some folks think I'm a moron because I elect to not eat most vegetables, nor do I work out every day.

same here, I won't risk the DZ or myself by using copyrighted works. Sundance Media Group/VASST offers royalty-free, full license stock music, some of which is excellent for tandem and other video use. Digital Juice offers great music, WEEDMUSIC.com, stock20.com (use the discount code of VASST to get 20% off), Broadjam, and the sites mentioned earlier in this thread are great for tandems. ***Disclaimer: I am a partner in VASST.com and Sundance Media and do derive financial benefit from sales from those sites.

Bite your tongue! You'll never see a guy like Rudy Sarzo playing a Rick. Every note starts with "M" And Rudy, not Glenn, is the "real" Whitesnake bassist. MnealTX Make a standard G chord with your: Pinky finger on High E string/3rd fret (High G) Ring finger on B string/3rd fret ((high D) G string open D string open Index finger on A string/2nd or 3rd fret (third fret is the suspended C/4th) Bird/middle finger on the low E/3rd fret (low G) Hope that helps ya?
-
Bass G - B - C - G G add4, or G sus4 ? Yes. Use the designation that means most to you for future recall. On your B string, instead of leaving it open, put a finger on the 3rd fret, changing the open B to a fretted D. This will add a second 5th to the chord, allowing it not only to be more open/airy, but will also bring out the suspended C because there no longer is a B/C conflict in the chord. Or, maybe you want the conflict, dunno what your melodic structure sounds like.
-
If you're listing notes from the high E string backwards, then it's simply a G chord with suspended fourth, that likely resolves to G? You can also suspend the fourth/C on the B string/second string at the first fret. The resolve is the same, but it has a different feel at the higher octave.

I guess I owe as I've broken my first FAR. Do I owe if I was ignorant, or is that a double penalty? Somewhat surprised the rigger's shack at Eloy didn't mention this. I didn't realize that the problem with my AAD should have grounded the rig, or I would have grounded the rig. Well...thanks to Gordo and Sandy at Rigging Innovations, the rig is now airworthy again.
-
Why? BTW, the "hospital" at PD is very nicely appointed, I've been there to watch a canopy go through the entire cycle, and they are incredibly thorough, so if there is anything else about the reserve that you missed, it's extremely unlikely that they'll miss it. Did you visit the PD factory while you were at Deland?

Moron=stupid in my book. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3088416#3088416 Has nothing to do with being a moderator. If you meant your comment about buying the "wrong rig" in humor, my apologies, I didn't/don't read it that way. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3088367#3088367 We're all non-faces on the internet. If the OP's rigger is standing next to him vs you, me, or anyone else over the web, generally the rigger's advice should carry more weight, IMO. No point in getting your panties in a wad over it, a real, live person beats a virtual person in my book anyday. As far as my name, if DZ.com had enough characters to allow for my whole name, it would be there.

It's not operating properly. (Not sure how true it was but I did hear a rumor that the suspected cause of a high Cypres fire at the Eloy boogie this year was that it hadn't been properly calibrating for the jumper. I can't imagine I'd leave that unit powered up if that were the case). But that's about the only reason I can think of at 200 jumps. The rumor is true. Coincidence that our Cypres' wouldn't calibrate/arm correctly on the same day at the same elevation? The Skyhook may offer a reduction of risk but to suggest someone is stupid for not using one, or to suggest that someone "bought the wrong rig" as Bigway stated in another thread, is ------. If the rigger is experienced and trusted, is able to provide reasons why he/she doesn't like the Skyhook, well.... they're standing there vs a non-face on the internet. 200 jumps or not.
-
You couldn't pay me to jump with a Skyhook, nor an RSL. Yes, I've jumped with my Cypres off, as there are occasional reasons for that, too.

I bet Gene scores better. Besides, he's rocket- fueled.

Very tough call. I have an FTP narrow that I'm probably going to sell, simply because it's not capable of the adaptation I have with my FTP. I put on a Vapor Narrow at PIA and had one when we were working on Norman Kent's "Aerial Camera" DVD, and liked it a lot too. Comfort wise, they're not much different, IIRC. I personally prefer the Bonehead latch system, but I also am very familiar with it due to my FTP. I like the deeper chin on the Vapor, and have seen pix of a person that put a full face on the Vapor (although I can't imagine myself doing the same). Gotta say that customer support from Bonehead has been total top-shelf both on the phone and in person; can't say the same for Skysystems. It might be an east/west coast thing.

Keely, I really do see your point (BTW, one of the few non-alcoholics in my family, I have two immediate relatives incarcerated for alcohol-related crimes), but also don't agree that it's for society to treat adults as though they're two year olds that require safety latches on every cupboard door, plug covers on every outlet, radio monitors when Mommy (or more likely Big Brother) isn't there. In the social sense, society provides those very things for adults that can't behave like adults. Alcoholism is an illness no different than any other addiction, sure. It's also the most easily treated addiction of them all, IMO (says the guy whose significant other has been an MSW for 20 years). We pay for the cost of the treatment in our taxes, through our churches, through liquor taxes, through corporate donations. Rehab is ridiculously easy. In other words, we're already footing the bill for a huge percentage of the cost of rehab/treatment/prevention/maintenance. Why do we further need to foot the bill by paying higher prices so that it might be "prescriptionized" and kept locked away, hidden from temptation, or controlled via *more* government intervention? Having a cocktail before dinner, or a glass of wine with a meal is exceptionally commonplace throughout the world. Having a cold one with your friends on the weekend is as American as applie pie and good ole' mom. I only socially drink, and that's rare enough. I don't drink beer nor the 3.2 alcohol found in the stores and at the end of the day, this legislation has a total impact of zero on my life (It's already hard enough getting Utah liquor stores to carry Oban 50 year; Why do you think I keep going back to Eloy?). But I believe in protecting your rights with the perhaps misguided hope that you'll be there to help protect mine. Obesity, perversion, prescription/non-prescription drug abuse, alcoholism, sex crimes against children, etc are all social pox, but the tools with which these sicknesses are fed are freely accessible because those same tools are part of daily life. When we remove individual choices from society....well...look how that sort of society hasn't propered and grown throughout the eons of time. Everyone on this forum is related to a dysfunctional human being (or is one). Rather than casting aside our rights because of their weakness, aren't we better off experiencing our rights/choices while attempting to elevate them to the freedoms we enjoy?

Fitness Friends! Where are ya? Post your Jan 18-24 updates!!
DSE replied to ACMESkydiver's topic in The Bonfire
Congrats! One of our T/I's told me I was feeling slow because I'm a toad in the cold months and he designed a fitness program for me that I'm somewhat sticking with, 7lbs in 15 days. He tells me I could do better if I'd give up fries n' shakes. If you want to meet a monster skydiver who also has serious chops in the weight loss/fitness world, check out Mike Semanoff. His website also has some really helpful workout progress forms and calculators (free). -
Spinning Linetwists Malfunction Video
DSE replied to BrianSGermain's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Nah, didn't think you were stupid, you're a canopy test pilot. Oddly enough, I'd just watched Gary Peek's video with the intention line twists this morning. Add to that the altitude at which you dumped...I assumed you were seeing what might happen re; line twists. I musta been under the influence of Peeks. -

I could be wrong, but it appears that it's packed with twists? Intentional? -
MaxiflowA friend voiced this, you might find it funny even if out of season.

It'll actually hold for 12 hours, if it's like the other consumer cams. I'm not aware of a means of keeping it in manual focus; maybe someone else is?

Read the article, I didn't bring Mormons into it, the Mormon-owned newspaper specifically mentions Mormon legislature, Mormons on the ABC, Mormon-dominated state, Mormons that don't agree with restricting sales.

Not only have I see "This Divided State," but I live in it. I met Steven on "World's Fastest Indian," super-smart kid. "This Divided State" got a lot of attention for him. Can't wait to see his expose' on Cheney and BYU.

As usual, Saskia is correct. To elaborate just a bit, _all_ HD is widescreen. Sony offers three downconvert modes. ~Squeeze (anamorphic) ~Crop (removes/crops from both right/left sides ~Letterbox (Puts black bars on top/bottom) Squeeze is usually the best downconvert option, as it doesn't move pixels around, and most every NLE out there can manage an anamorphic SD image, correctly reading as wide. Letterboxing is the next best option, as depending on the encoder used, it inserts flags that tell the DVD player how to play it out, either as full-frame wide or as letterboxed for display on a 4:3 screen. Cropping, you can never recover the cropped/lopped pixels.

I don't believe it's a secret that Skydive Dallas, owned by Lee Schlichtemeier (Southwest RD and USPA Treasurer) supports Skyride/accepts their coupons.

Anyhow, I don't expect you guys to agree with me. And I really don't think it would make a huge difference anyway. I don't think you can protect people from themselves or others, if this is the criteria on which a decision to sell or not sell is made. Ammunition, drug products, knives, liquor, hammers are all available over the counter. Should we generate a 5-day waiting period to purchase hammers? It's bad enough that drugs like Drixoral (Once a scrip-only drug and then became OTC) requires you to fill out a federal form just to buy a box now. We're already legislated to death over what are common purchases, due to the weaknesses of others. Rather than raising up a balanced society, is it truly better to dumb the quality of life down to the lowest common denominator?

Well...there's an argument. Ban Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition for those that have a problem with masturbation, or eliminate chocolate for those that are struggling with weight issues. My best friend has a sex-addiction, so perhaps all women should be kept from public places, or at the least, be forced to cover all of their bodies except for their eyes and hands.
