    The new Macbook Air

My lil tiny VAIO SZ series has dual monitor output...and it's 2+ years old. Somewhat expected these days, IMO. Quade's right on about where Apple wants to go. you'll see another major, somewhat related announcement right around NAB. Storage/Codecs/accessible applications are an integral part of the future in computing revenue.

Same can be said for the injury we had, flare stopped at mid chest even tho two of us were yelling "FLARE!" Then instead of PLF, she tried to "protect" her ass by putting down her hands on the asphalt. Wrist is swollen, black n' blue, blood blisters, and her ass is still nasty bruised. I didn't get a photo of her landing, I shot one at about 20' and noticed she hadn't moved from half-brakes, so forgot about pix, and started yelling. Next time I'll just shoot pix. I got a few biffs on film. http://www.spottedeagle.com/Skydive/Mesquite2/content/IMG_0864_large.html
  3. a-VERY familiar with CVLI, as my works are one of the organizations that are signed on to CVLI. Very few major studios are CVLI signatories. b-(the important one) CVLI does not, and cannot license any one to circumvent copy protections placed on a visual work. DMCA applies to CVLI just as it does for anyone else. Notice on your CVLI license pages, that there are very specific studios that are licensing agents, and even in those signatories, not all of their films will fall under CVLI. For example, Dreamworks is producing "The Ruins" but I know for certain that the director and writer of that film did not certify "The Ruins" for a CVLI. CVLI does not allow licensees to merely copy any DVD or CD they've purchased willi-nilli. And if the DVD has copy protection (CSS) then no CVLI covers it, federal law precludes it. The *only* anti-circumventions are very specific as found on the copyright.gov website. You won't find any mention of CVLI in the 2006, 2003, or 2001 hearings on the subject.

Thanks for all the great responses and PM's, guys. It's been passed to the publisher. Sadly enough, I have little to no say about the cover, and so don't know what they may choose to do. In all likelihood, one of you may find out before I do, as to the direction they'll take.
  5. Bear in mind that by ripping DVD content, you are in immediate violation of the law, and once shown in your therapy group, you expose the organization to legal action. The waivers for bypassing copyguards are very specific, and essentially only apply to educational groups, virtually no one else. You may *think* you have a video license, I'm 110% certain you don't. That said, if you are aware of the risks and wish to go that route, DVDRip, Womble, and many other tools exist that are free/near free, that will allow you to rip a vob file. Most NLE systems can read a vob.
  6. I've ordered one with the promise of being able to return it if I wasn't happy within a month. First seen at PIA-Reno, I liked it. Heavy duty, loud (variable volume and frequency) and a lot of options. I've heard bad things about their earlier lines as well, hence my wanting to be able to return it. I'll post a review once I have it in hand.
  7. Could it be the cable? 4pin cables are notorious for problems.

My publisher wants a skydiving image on the front of one of my new books. The stock image they've selected is old, and I'm not a big fan. I also don't have any bigway images that I can pull out, and the budget is very low. Does anyone have something similar that may be had fairly inexpensively? http://www.skydiveutah.com/temppages/VegasPro8CoverPro.pdf.pdf is the current proposed cover.
  9. I would consider it "downloading." The camera is digital storage, being Xferred from the camera/server to the personal computer/client. Either way USB doesn't work. You need to use 1394. The manual is available online.

He wasn't the only one. There was a woman that landed a bit long and didn't quite PLF correctly. She sprained her wrist due to the lack of flare and how she struck the asphalt. The peas are fairly deep, if you land in them.
  11. In case you don't know Trunk, he's a cute lil' guy (Not really so little) that had a goal of finishing a marathon. he'd never run one before. He's overweight. By a lot. He drinks too much and parties, stays out late and sits behind a desk all day staring at numbers and letters so his brain is a bit fried. He snacks too much. he also manufactures the Hypoxic HypEye camera indicators so many of us use. Mark has spent the last few months losing weight, training hard, eating better. He still wasn't quite feeling up to running an entire marathon late last week, so was only going to run the first half. Apparently he changed his mind. Hhe ran the full marathon yesterday. 26.2 miles in 4:32! Congrats, Mark! Very happy for you. Been fun exchanging PM's about how you've been working towards this goal for a while. Besides, you're

We did get a successful rodeo off today, meant to share the pix with you there... Thanks to Jeremy, JT, Mike, Brad, Les, and everyone else at Mesquite that made us feel welcome. Wish I hadn't had a helluva head cold. With only 7 jumps over two days...didn't quite feel right. Tiffani Hardcastle got her 100th jump for the rodeo, and got pied to boot. There is a short video at the bottom of her index pic page. Rodeo pix Man, that wind gust on the second to the last load was something else.
  13. Happy Birthday, Monkeyboy. I hope it's the best ever (til next year).
  14. Bear in mind that if you have the wire tight inside the helmet hole, it's entirely likely that eventually the wire will become worn from the hole and normal wear/vibration/pull. FWIW, my cables are run through the hole in the helmet, holes are polished smooth/free of sharp edges, and then gaffed. If I *really* wanted them sealed, I'd probably use silicone as well, as it would suspend them from the helmet edges. I'm happy with the small amount of gaffing, as I occasionally have to change out wires. I've gone through 3 Conceptus cables in 600 jumps.
  15. If you're suggesting I make a choice between not jumping or only jumping with a coach, you're outta your mind. It's warm, and I'd like to learn to fly. Yeah, I do plan on heading west to jump with you, but I'm here, it's warm... Thanks Scott/Yuri for the pointers to look for. I knew I was too stiff on the first jump, relaxed a lot for the second jump, and watched my fall rate significantly decrease. And have been able to keep the slower fall rate, but getting the roll as a result. I'll try your suggestions tomorrow. Yes, I'm having a blast. So are you officially my "dealer" now? I'm hooked.

That's not the wife Yeah...Internet connection here is horrible, and it didn't show all the "0"s I'd typed, until after I'd saved it.
  18. Help, please? In the absence of anyone jumping with me in a wingsuit, I'm finding that I have a lot of roll when I hold shoulders rolled deep, butt high, and feet spread wide. Rolling one side to the other, and occasionally getting a little yaw tossed in for fun. I'm feeling like I'm starting to understand fall rate as best I can (not being relative to anyone else), but this feels much like potato chipping as an AFF student. Conversely, I'm getting my flight times up and speeds down. Had two jumps in the 50's today with a low speed of 51, high speed of 83, and averages in the mid 60's. But I'm not "flying" as much as I feel like I'm "flailing." Any suggestions before I go back up tomorrow?
  19. Quad-core just about anything (off the shelf is OK, just be sure to remove any anti-virus). Storage? A half-TB/500 GB drive will be plenty of storage for *most* tandem vids over a season, YMMV. Graphics cards...if you go with Vegas, an old S3 will be fine, but anything faster is a dream. Be sure the system has two physical drives, not one partitioned drives. One drive is for OS and applications, the other is for storage of media. 2GB RAM minimum, and if you get Windows XP, that's all you can access anyway. Vista can go higher, but it won't significantly improve rendertimes unless you're using a lot of stills. I like Vegas for skydiving as it doesn't tie up a machine while rendering/editing/Xferring. You can have multiple instances open, so you're editing one vid while another is rendering, while burning a DVD, and on a quad core, you won't see any of the three processes slow down.

Thx, I'll post more as the days go on. Unless my headcold goes away, I won't be flying, so ground-pix are the next best thing.

  22. I have zero trouble getting my 170 Sil to respond to front risers or harness/leg inputs.
  23. It's the SD5. Not necessarily "new." It has a new encoder that changed midstream, but we rated it as a junk cam when it and it's predecessor (SD1) shipped. Neither can handle high motion. Panasonic doesn't know how to do MPEG yet. Unless of course, someone might suggest we Photoshopped the picture.
  24. You've had the ability to burn a BD AVCHD content to a DVD 5 for nearly 9 months now on the PC side. I do it fairly often. In Sony Vegas, Tools | Options | Burn Disc | Blu-ray template
  25. Yes, you do. Just pick up the phone or use the internet. Jay Stokes is listed through USPA. Ed Dickenson is "Cajones" on DZ.com Norman Kent can be reached through his http://www.normankent.com website. McGowan (good luck getting him right now, military keeps him hopping) can be reached through SkydiveAZ.com In some cases, it's just a matter of asking and a jump ticket. IMO, MORE than worth it. Just realized I failed to mention John Crowell in there too. He's a great flyer, and watching him film 4way is pretty inspirational.
