No organization is guaranteed to be relevant or existing in a 100 years. Especially not the retarded ones. It could be replaced by an alternate body much much sooner. See my response above.

Group Member Program Pros/Cons

How could one prevent a virtual DZ from placing this "seal" on their website? If you mean that there will only be physical plaques made...photographs aren't that hard, but the bigger point is, the "seal" becomes a marketing tool more than anything, and if the student/tandem passenger/fun jumper is already at the DZ to view the physical seal, what good is it? -
The autoplay isn't auto tragic.... I thought you were looking in windows movie maker and not seeing the camera. you may have turned off the auto-play somewhere in the system. Open WMM. See if you can import without autoplay.

Which is why I mention that PD's are like no other. Didn't say they're better, just unique. IMO, it's inspiring to walk through a factory like PD where almost everything you see, from silly tennis-ball stops on lift cables to plywood boxes concealing motors to monster laser tables were designed and predominantly built by the owner of the company. it's also pretty cool to see the military canopies being made right along side sport canopies, and seeing them all get identical treatment/inspection/handling. I haven't seen the Icarus factory, only small pix at PIA.

I'm not in front of a VISTA machine at the moment, hopefully someone else can help. I believe in Classic View, it's still in Network Controllers.

Start by disabling the Firewire Bridge in your Network connections. This is the first step in eliminating the problem. If that doesn't work, check to see that nothing else is sharing the IRQ of the firewire card. It's unlikely, but it's a next-step.

Are totally oblivious to the process, or just a little oblivious to the process? RIAA is going nowhere, but since you don't understand the way the industry works, you likely won't understand that, either. The dynamic likely will change, but the organization going away? Not in your great-grandchildren's lifetime.

Yes, I'm quite sure that Debugmode offers BulletTime, it's one of the tutorials in my Vegas book. It also was the first plugin to AE and Premiere that could achieve this effect. Of course, now Adobe has their own tools built into AE that weren't there before. Winmorph and Wax can both be used for BulletTime FX. It's a tad easier to do this in Winmorph, and a tad higher quality to do it using AE, however (IMO).

Lesson to be learned? Don't F**** with Howard.

I'm going to use my 1200.00 to pay for a trip to Eloy, pay for gas to get there, pay for jump tix, and pay for food cooked at the Bent Prop. It's not cheap crap from China, but it does help employ manifest, gas station attendants, the people at RI, PD, L&B, Square 2, Skyrider Inn, Chevy, Firestone, the cooks at the Bent Prop, their suppliers, Larry Hill, Betsy Barnhouse, and a host of others employed. Plus, I need wingsuit coaching from Scott Campos, so his flight, lodging, fuel, food all equal or surpass my efforts to keep the economy rolling... I might buy some cheap crap from china while at Costco, who sends so much of their money overseas too, but damn...I love those hotdogs.

Because they build more canopies than anyone else? Because they were the first to market with a factory-built, commercial canopy that is still around today? Maybe because they have an incredible customer service department? I'm sure that their PDFactory Team winning most of the various slots in swoop and RW competitions doesn't hurt. They have a super-cool demo program Their laser-cutting tables are wicked to watch and no one else has anything quite like them (They were designed by PD's president). They have more canopy models/options/designs than anyone? Their logo is commonly seen on a canopy? I can think of a lot of reasons, but the upshot, IMO, is that they've been around for a long time, have solid engineering that has been very much an influence on the industry over the past couple of decades, and they seem to genuinely care about customers. They make quite a few canopies that don't wear their branding, BTW. Popularity is pretty regional though. At our DZ, you'll see lots of PD. Go north 30 miles, everyone jumps Icarus. Besides that, Kolla and Kim kick ass when it comes to getting things done around there. Ask anybody.

Not related to skydiving at all (although we argued for it to be so), this is a fun spot shot with, edited with, encoded with Vegas.

And when the tandem instructor is the roommate of the guy who wants to shoot tandems? The tandem instructor's viewpoint is clouded. Or when the camera guy is a real hotshot RW worker or had tons of tunnel time? Maybe where you are, it's a more controlled environment. Flip side, I've seen a DZ where a tunnel rat came in, blew away AFF in 3 jumps, and at 30 skydives, put a camera on his head at a different DZ. He can't land like he should be able to, and I think he's dangerous under canopy, but he's got "mad" freefall skills, so he must be safe, right? Obviously it's a big enough issue that folks with some serious numbers have something to say about it in this thread. Or maybe we've all just got too much time on our hands.

Yes, there is a gap. And a line can easily get caught in it. However, it's less of a gap than most camera helmets out there. My Converter arrived today, and I'll spend the weekend getting it set up. I'm very excited to play with this. On initial opening of the box and inspection, these are very well-built helmets, and the converter system is fairly ingenious. Very much like a discrete panoramic mount in some ways. Initial response on the helmet bought sight-unseen...very impressed at dollar for value

i've done the handgun "trick" many times into Edmonton and Montreal. no problems at all. it's a starter pistol. In Australia, the customs guys just laughed, and then asked if they could film me for their (apparently very popular) "Customs" television show. I declined.

Belly mount? I can see it being rigged with a still, vid, and light, but not still, vid, light, flash. Not as much a weight problem as it is a height and balance problem.

Bull. Be good, or pay a fine, just like in the USA. Littering is illegal here, but no one pays attention to it. Drop a butt on the street in the US, you might get a harsh look from someone. Do it in Orchard City, you'll get a 250.00 fine. Traffic drugs in the US, you might get a slap on the wrist at worst your first time out. In Singapore, you get the death penalty. However, Singapore is inside the Golden Triangle, which is infamous for it's heroin trade. I'm in agreement with much of the legal system in Singapore. Spray paint grafitti on someone's car or home? That's 6 lashes with the cane. Guess what? You won't find grafitti ANYWHERE in Singapore. No where. You don't find cigarette butts in the streets, either. Not only is it the law, but people there have pride in their homeland, lifestyle, and quality of life. If you're gonna piss on the laws, then piss on one of the most advanced social systems in the world too. You don't find homeless in Singapore; they have special housing for thoe that simply don't want to work. They have foodbanks for those that can't afford to buy from Pantry or other big grocery stores. They have excellent education there, far advanced over ours. Maybe having active discipline works, cuz as far as I can see, it does. Overall, Singapore's average quality of life *far* exceeds that of the USA. Their worst is about the same as our lower middle class. Their best is on par with the low end of our upper crust. And no one is left out of the system.

LitePanel Micro review is available here. No, I haven't jumped with it yet, messed around for a while this morning with it. Yes, it provides exceptionally useful output for freefall. Fall off at 8 feet is well within use even in bright sun, somewhat like a fill flash without anywhere near the power output, but *very* useable for video...I'll have some images to show soon, I hope.

sounds like a BSR would have helped in your situation, JT?

Would you call Singapore a really rockin place.... or something more akin to a very controlled police state. sorry, not gonna bite on that one. I spend a LOT of time in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand for one of our biggest clients. Do you? Changi airport and Orchard City are indisputably two of the most beautiful urban areas on the planet with thriving business, flowing capital, and clean.

I saw the 380 on the tarmac when I was in Singapore last month. No amount of comparison makes it explicable. It's huge. Very interesting that the "Beyond First" cabins have a no-sex proviso.

When has it *not* been real ugly around there? Looking over past posts and archives...seems like there is something in the water in that part of the country. -
Sort of. I agree, in many instances, particularly for 8 x 10 prints, 2MP makes no diff. Pixel count comes into relevance if you're doing a fair amount of cropping, chroma/luma processing too, as there is more meta-information there for the camera to work with. Yes, if you're working with jpgs, a big difference won't be noticed. Working with RAW...the computer sees a huge difference. Working with RAW and HDR...the greater information is also more important, even if the eye can't necessarily perceive it.
