it's not a theory, and in theory it could be done. But, it's a limited license issue. Sony licensed their own iLink technology to their BPSD division, and that took forever to navigate the waters. Yes, if they wanted to spend the money on a more expensive license for 1394 as an Xfer protocol, they could, but why? Finicky connector, costly license which results in a costly piece of metal, etc....

April 30-May 2 on Oahu. Contact Skydive Hawaii for registration. (808) 637-9700 PM me with any questions. Gonna be a blast. Blue skies, blue water, white puffies, and a fleet of suits to fit newbies and experienced alike.

That statement confuses me. Firewire Xfer can only be streaming video, therefore it's linear 1:1. USB card, even a crappy, slow card, will still be at least 8:1. You'd rather have slower firewire Xfer but you're not happy with USB speed? FWIW, speed of USB is dependent on a coupla things. If you've got an older USB1 card reader, if your computer is set up for USB 1, if you're using a cheapo/slow card...these things can all have an impact on Xfer times.

WS World Record, L/D Edition, Ranch Summer 2010
DSE replied to yuri_base's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Hear here! To thinking outside the box. [edit] Scott, would you please post some of that footage so folks can see what a forward-flying flock looks like? -
Should it be part of the stickies?

+1 Can't believe I'm appreciative of Yuri. "the king of D/L" -
So the one I've had on back-order for a couple years really isn't going to come? Thread officially de-railed. Back to camera helmets, I'm thinking of putting radio-controlled motion tracking on my helmet so that I can look anywhere in freefall and the lens will remain focused on the student, who is wearing a short-range xmitter.

It ain't photoshop.

The OP is doing a hop n' pop from 3.5k. Should you be reaching a hookknife at that point?

Lighten up, Francis. FWIW, when I sing it to friends, I substituted Tooele, Utah for Oklahoma City. It's a funny song, nothing more. They're a funny band that takes posing to the outer-most extremes, and that alone is worth the watch. John, Nashville Pussy is slammin fun in concert.

That sort of setup was very common at one time, and overall, it's pretty lightweight. Very lightweight compared to others of its time. This is my primary helmet setup, it's heavy but well balanced. It's good you're looking at snag issues; it's difficult to have a great helmet setup that has no snag issues. Hopefully you're just looking at buying the helmet for now? With the GoPro and Contours becoming so popular and small, I'm wondering if we'll see an increase in camera-related incidents this year. Already aware of one in SoCal this year with an experience level of 80 jumps hosing herself and someone else on her second jump with a GoPro.

If you permanently attach the ring to the camera, what do you do when the ring is bent in a camera bag, or when a riser strike tears the lens from the aluminum ring, or... Plastic gives way. It's cheaper to make the camera with plastic, and given that the CX100 is a very casual use camera, it's not all that tough. To a large extent, that works well for skydiving safety.

"With hair on your nipple, zits on your box, in Oklahoma City you're considered a fox..." Still laughing, even after 2 weeks.

12 hours. Finally. But no badge...

"Possible", but not at all "common." -
First AFF failed really bad! need imput!
DSE replied to elgue's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
If you're undamaged, there is no "fail." You may not have satisfied every goal with 100% success, but you exited, managed freefall with some assistance, and you landed without incident or injury. Very few people do everything perfectly or even very well in their first experience. Focus on the successes of the jump and build the success of the next one based on the successes of the first one. -
I don't know the answer. I know that parked things move. I know skydiving is pretty hard on cameras that are built tough. I don't know how many licks it takes to get to the middle of a Tootsie Pop any more than I know how many jumps it might take to damage an internal hard drive, and I'd just as soon not chase that answer down. Seems easier to go with a camera that is a known performer.

It'll park the heads. Are you sure that's enough to stand up to the rigors of skydiving, however?

if the flash isn't desired over a crossfade, but rather over a piece of video, insert a 5 frame length piece of generated media on the track above the video, and give a slight fade in/out to it.

True, but... Japan ain't the rest of the world. As much as I love what BD is...if they don't do something QUICKLY for mass replication, BD will die a fast death. My company is heavily vested in BD and BD authoring. But..they've made it so expensive to license a replication process, many studios are holding out for HTML 5 and/or new Flash delivery technologies on disc and on the 'net due to the horrible costs currently associated with replicating BD content. I see all your links, what is the point in anyone using LTO in this day and age? DDP can be delivered on disc as DDP layer 0 and 1 unless one is authoring with Apple, and even then, HDD is so much more reliable and cost-effective compared to LTO drives.

You'll shave mere seconds by doing this. However, 6 minutes for a 6 minute video tells me a few things... Either; you're rendering a LOT of effects/filters or you're rendering to incorrect file types or you've got opacity or other master setting on a track set incorrectly or you're using some weird intermediary or You've got some serious weirdness happening in the background. That machine should be spitting out a 6 min vid in 2 mins or less. Assuming you're starting with MPEG from the CX100? Rendering to MPEG2 widescreen with AC3 audio.

Moved to it's own thread:Dressing for success in wingsuit formations.
DSE replied to mccordia's topic in Wing Suit Flying
This is kinda my original point. You have a guy that flies a tarp even though he doesn't weigh much. You have a very heavy guy that flies an old small suit that's all he can afford. They're both at the extremes of their performance envelope. While the guy in the tarp is trying to keep down with the guy in the small/old suit, they're likely doing to be negatively affecting each other once grips are taken. I don't think the performance envelope should/could be put into any "rule system" but does need to be a consideration if you're organizing a docked flock. Much like wingloading for CRW and weightbelts for RW. Neutralizing fall rates is going to become a reasonably important consideration, isn't it? -
Changing the RAM shouldn't double the rendertime. It might APPEAR that it's changing the render time, but I'll guess you have a title or other major change in the start of the video.
-
not really, only sorta. Platinum isn't automatable, so it boils down to copy/pasting behaviors of other slides that were manually adjusted.
-
which operating system? In the Preferences (ALT+ENTER) you can go to the Video tab and set dynamic ram to 0. This is the best setting if you're NOT dealing with stills on the timeline. However, antivirus, other processes calling on the drive or CPU could cause this. Heat can cause this. The temp "crap" is only put there because you're directing it there. If they're SFK files, then they aren't causing any harm one way or another.

One can't ignore the validity and cool factor of a docked formation, IMO. However, since formations of planes seem to be one of the cited benchmarks, it's unlikely we'll ever see a formation consisting of 172's, Otters, DC3's, and CRJ700's's, either. I question that they could all fly efficiently together.
