  1. I've opened more then 1 tab for just that purpose at Langar. you've been to langar !! cool
  2. So, then -- are hop and pops for the purpose of swooping not skydives? Wendy W. Just for arguments sake . . . It is my opinion that if your body exits a flying aircraft, and you have gear attached to your body that theoretically will allow you to do this same act again, it is a skydive. i think different, i recon that if you leave the plane and your parachute is deployed straight away, its just a parachute jump. skydiving involves freefall
  3. So, then -- are hop and pops for the purpose of swooping not skydives? Wendy W. not really, no
  4. my father used to say "what doesn't kill you, only makes you stronger" of course, that was before the accident
  5. there are things that i'd say online that i wouldn't say in person, not because i would be fearful of what the recipient would say, but for having to take on the crowd that would gang up to defend that person. You can say something online and not have to worry about the recipient's friends all rallying round and sticking their ore in. Sometimes its easier to not take on the whole world, than to say something and have to deal with their minions nipping at your ankles in retaliation I dont think Jay Stokes's attempt is bullshit at all my point was that i think it's a bit misleading to call it 600 skydives, when 600 low level parachute jumps is closer to the mark. I'm sure he's a top geeza, i never meant to question him as a person
  6. fair play, i see where you're coming from with a lot of what you say and its sand in my butt cheeks if you don't mind
  7. ban him !!!! then kill him !!!! then kill his family !!!!! (but do it quick, we don't want to get to know him. After we get to know him we can't call him troll for the exact same post)
  8. why is it that people jump up and down shouting "troll" when somebody is having a wind up on here? i've just been reading the "free pack jobs" post (and the comment about getting a D licence for dating her instructor) and to me, it was quite obvious from her first post that she was just having a little fun, yet some people just can't stop themselves getting all indignant and outraged about it and have to call her silly names like a troll why can't people just laugh along without puffing their chests out and being all serious? and also... i can't take anybody on here serious who uses the (childish) name calling of troll, i'll tell you why... you get people who know each other on here doing exactly like the girl asking for free pack jobs, and that is saying outrageous things just for a laugh, BUT because people know them, they don't get called a troll. As soon as a newbie does exactly the same and says things to get people going (and why the hell some people sit at home getting angry at what people type on the internet is beyond me) they apply different standards and get all serious and have a hissy fit because they are outraged at their beloved sport being taken in vain Either apply the same standards to everybody and be deadly serious and squeel "troll" at everybody daring to take the piss, or lighten up a bit and stop crying troll like a baby at people you dont know. one rule for one and one rule for another, anybody? another example off the top of my head is my 85,000 jumps, quite obviously i've not done 85,000 yet to some people on here that is tantamount to an insult to say that i have...they will see it as me dissrespecting them and skydiving for daring to lark around about such a sacrilidge subject. BIG DEAL i say, get over it and yourself.
  9. It is not an American tradition; it's a skydiver tradition, carried over from the earliest days of skydiving when it was discovered that skydivers really like beer. I have found that it is often easier to convince a skydiver to buy me a single Guinness for a beer line violation than it is to get them to buy a case of green bottles for the whole DZ. A little known caveat: Cheap beer such as Budweiser or Miller does not count towards beer requirements. It must be GOOD beer, such as Guinness, Warstainer, Salvator, New Castle, etc. BTW, wasn't this your FIRST beer thread? and isn't this your first post in it?
  10. Coming from someone who is afraid to post his name and claims to have 85,000 jumps I would guess that your definition of what a skydive is doesn’t really matter. i've got 85,000 jumps because i can easily do 700 a day if i want 600 is easy peasy
  11. Where do you find someone to jump with that doesn't have a few loose screws Yes, we Americans like to vocalize. I just can't picture myself walking stiffly to the door, looking up, and saying cherio mate! Although, there is one redneck... being English, i always wear my bowler hat and carry an unbrella when i go jumping ... i say "tally ho chaps, chocks away" in the door and read a copy of the Financial Times on the way down
  12. have it crossed out and "dead" written next to it
  13. what is this "buying beer" that you talk of? doesn't charity begin at home?
  14. i've not thought about running a tab up at the bar i did a tandem at hinton back in August last year, that's what got me into skydiving, i was buzzing for days after and signed up fo AFF. Hinton seems a cool place, funny instructors who put you at ease with a bit of banter
  15. i can see what you're saying, but at Langar i've not seen a single crate of beer brought in for people, it just doesn't happen. i didn't do it, i've not seen any other students do it, and people dont seem to hang around too long at the close of play anyway. I've stopped a couple of times and had a pint or two at the bar there, but it doesn't seem to be a proper drinking sesion that people have... maybe because people have to drive home I'm not trying to say it's unfriendly down at langar, quite the opposite actually. it seems very easy to get chatting to people down there, including the experienced jumpers. it's just that i've not seen anybody wander in with a crate of ale. as to the "buy me a jump ticket" comment, if i dont buy beer, i'll be able to buy my own jump tickets and if i land out, i'll just walk back... a walk never killed anybody, and it's not as if i'm going to land 10 miles away, if i did that, the walk back would be the least of my worries
  16. i love the idea of eating your pets, when my cat dies i'm going to bar-b-que him
