  1. Does anyone remember Madeline Murray O'Hare? She was totally militant, and had a serious agenda. I would actually call her a God-hater. It is ironic that her son is now in evangelistic Christian ministry. Talk about rebelling against your parents.
  2. Are you saying that science is now the giver and sustainer of life? Have you considered the possibility that your friend has had a spiritual experience, which science simply doesn't have the technology, and probably never will, to define as real.
  3. He should have used the knife to carve the words "Ex robber" into their foreheads.
  4. That is a personal opinion. I believe that is pretty common, regardless of the philosophy or disipline, a person tends to go in full blast i.e. skydiving. Do you believe the statment That when your number is up, your ticket is going to be punched? If so, all the science in the world would not have saved your friend's physical life.
  5. Opps. I just did it.
  6. How many of you go back and read your own posts because you think that they are brilliant?
  7. Definitions from the dictionary; Religion-Object of great devotion Examples Epicureanism- the doctrines of Epicurus Gk. philosopher who was regarded as teaching the doctrine that the pleasures of the senses are the highest good. hedonism- Ethical theory or doctrine that pleasure is the chief good. My argument here is that everyone practices some type of religious behavior. Very few people do not have something or someone who is their end all. Some people practice Christianity, some people are Christians. Are you practising atheism, or are you an atheist? By definition,I would be considered a Bohemian.
  8. We're talking apples and pumpkins here.
  9. Heaven!, But hell, girl, you're taking all of the fun out of it. Getting in a good gig is half the fun. We mean no harm.
  10. I'm sure that taking a course on religion from some liberal,God- hating professor, who will probably give a pass to all religions except Christianity, is where I would want to find the truth.
  11. Amazing! They were trying to destroy the message from the beginning, and haven't gotten the job done yet! -------------------------------------------------------- Thanks! It was probably inspired by the wine.
  12. Are you kidding. I've seen it on film. The Nazis had it, and Indiana Jones got it back!
  13. It is called situational ethics.Bill Clinton was a proponent of the movement. If I can deny something long enough, it didn't actually happen.
  14. A little play on words. You weren't. They were. Moutain climbing is generally a slow motion sport. Especially at that elevation. I know few of the details, but if the group had enough combined O2 to get the man to the next base camp, that should have been priority one. Forget reaching the summit, so that you could take a picture and slap each other on the back. We are discussing an imbedded sense of morallity.
  15. Welcome to the discussion. I havn't had this much fun since the last time I went skydiving. Here's a good opportunity to improve your thinking and writing skills.
  16. Yea, I'm thinkin' that I'm going to need a 12 step program to recover from this!
  17. Amazing! They were trying to destroy the message from the beginning, and haven't gotten the job done yet!
  18. . That was a point I made in the other thread. They accept the interpreted writings of antiquity as truth , without question, but absolutly refuse to accept the Bible. I know it's the message that they reject, and not the authenticity of the writing.
  19. Boy, do we ever have a recent example of that. People walked right by a dying man on Mt. Everest in order to get to the top. Now, there's an example of a moral compass pointing in the right direction. I'm not saying that they were atheists. It's just wrong.
  20. Let me give you a scenerio. You have a son. One day he comes home with a bicycle. You know that he doesn't have enough money to buy it. You ask him where he got it , and he says that he saw it leaning against a house, noone was using it, and he liked it. So now it's his. Do you simply tell him to take it back, without any explaination? Do you tell him that he is stealing, and taking what belongs to someone else is wrong? Do you say his moral compass is as good as yours so there shouldn't be a problem with him keeping the bike? If you do the truly moral thing, you have become the overriding authority. When he asks you where you got the idea that stealing is wrong, who are you going to quote as your authority? If you follow that line of authority you eventually have to come to the foundation of all law.
  21. What I'm saying is that the rest of the animal kingdom is taken care of by nature. The human life always seems to be far more complicated. We always seem to need lots of things to make us happy. The separation between humans and the rest of the animal kingdom is phenomenol.
  22. An overiding law of right and wrong. Conscience.
  23. I like these threads because it gives you time to chew on things. As I'm hanging a new back door on my house yesterday, my dog comes up to me occasionally, totally happy to be near me. He's totally happy to lay under the truck for shelter from rain or sun. It's the same with the rest of the animal kingdom, except for the human. Man, if there isn't something more to this whole thing, then we truly are getting the sh-tend of the stick. We have to spend our lives building houses, planting gardens, preserving food, etc., while the rest of the animals get to just enjoy life.
