After looking at the way a dz is chosen in reporting incidents (drop down alphabetical menu) I am even more baffled about this mistake. Unless the mods that approved it made it...
-
Just dont see how my dz and one that was 250 miles away were confused
-
Ok... so Im taking a minute to breathe here but this is ridiculous and I am not exactly sure how such a "mistake" could be made!! http://www.dropzone.com/fatalities/Detailed/345.shtml Under the fatality listings my home dz (Skydive Kansas City) is listed as the dropzone for the recent tail strike incident at the St Louis Skydiving Center (Bowling Green)!! WTF? I'm not even seeing how the business names Skydive Kansas City and the Saint Louis Skydiving Center even remotely can be confused!! Skydive Kansas City has NEVER had a fatality in the ten years since they opened their door. First time jumpers search dz.com and Im sure some stumble upon the fatality listings. Makes my dz looks like liars when we state that we are a fatality free dropzone. I would like to know who reported this incident... and more importantly who is going to fix such a gross mistatement

I used to work at a professional photo lab, and we used a travel steamer to take fingerprints off glossy prints. It should not affect the emulsion if you don't over saturate them

Wow! Those are some amazing shots... you'd think a professional took them or something Thanks for sharing!

Frickin Tandem Factories....
fireballgrl replied to mamajumps's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I have spent 6 years in the sport and learned to skydive through static line and AFP. My real sense of accomplishment in the sport did not occur until my first solo skydive, and I remember every heart pounding second. I could not tell you any details regarding my first skydive doing a tandem. If that was the only available method for me to skydive, I never would have pursued the sport. After talking to many who were in the industry before tandems were the norm and "preferred" first jump method, I would have to agree with what you saying here. Gone are the days when students took on the mental challenge of learning how a parachute works, about malfunctions, and took the full responsibility and added addrenaline/excitement and sense of accomplishment for all aspects of the skydive. The attitude of "I could never do that on my own" is pervasive amongst the few tandems my dz does. IMHO the "been there done that" attitude does not feed the sport, just the dzo's. I felt that my tandem only afforded me about 30% of the experience, but that is all we as an industry can offer when someone gives us two hours of their time. The student however feels they have experienced a full skydive (complete with the EVER IMPORTANT freefall time) Nevermind you have a guy on your back in a drogue freefall and are simply burning a hole in the sky only on your belly. I work manifest on the weekend and I like that my dz informs the customer of their options and that they don't have to go strapped to another person (as the media and hollywood seem to suggest) The difference is most evident once a person lands from their skydive, and you cannot take that sense of accomplishment and solitary facing of one's fears away -
How many jumps have you done in the last 12 months?
fireballgrl replied to AggieDave's topic in The Bonfire
Only about 35 jumps... thats over a 4 month time period. I only started again in May after a four year layoff add to that some weird midwestern weather and a few too many students to wait on Im looking forward to Couch Freaks -
Im at the dz, working... too many students. Its so hot I am neutral about even getting a skydive in today. Of course I did get to jump turbines at Summerfest all week too

I love facebook much more... myspace is a little too much like high school. Facebook has also gotten me in contact with people I never thought I would see or hear from again. BTW, They do make more than 5 skydiving gifts, you just have to give out tons of skydiving gifts and it will unlock like 30 more =)

IMHO I think Skydive Chicago is the best dz as far as what they offer in altitude, aircraft, loads of people to jump with, ammenities, facilities and a midwest friendly vibe. I say all of this and its not even my home DZ... I am from a friendly little Kansas City cessna dz that is like second family. I cannot lie though, I love all that SDC has to offer

I have had my suit for two months and put approximately 20+ jumps on it. My dealer measured me wrong (never measures women for a tight suit) and the upper body, shoulder and bust area were loose. I specifically ordered this to help my fall rate without needing a weightbelt. I was not wild about sending it in and waiting a few more weeks for it to be right. I was headed up to Summerfest last week and Tony said to bring it and hopefully he could address the issues and fix it there. Needless to say a little nip and a tuck and my suit is tight as it should be, and fits much better! I know of at least 8 jumpers from my dz who have ordered custom suits and they have held up well through the years and crash landings...lol I am very happy with my suit and their personal customer service

I watched that Modern Marvels episode today as well... they stated that the US was a well respected beer brewing nation back in the revolutionary days and lost most of its breweries and status during the prohibition/depression dust bowl era. It resulted in watered down versions due to rationing amongst war time and anti german sentiment post world war 1 (most breweries were started by german immigrants) Very interesting show

I'm so excited about Summerfest this year! I'm headed up for a few days (28th-31st?) with my guys from my dz. I've been to SDC for Nationals and one time on the way back from Rantoul but never for Summerfest and never got to jump. The facilities are amazing, truly a skydiving resort
