  3. positives and negatives for both 500 strength lines? What has been your experience? (insert philosophical quote here)
  4. You obviously don't know anything about modern tunnels (insert philosophical quote here)
  5. Take a look at this Facebook page for details https://m.facebook.com/events/507797112658903 (insert philosophical quote here)
  6. I've heard that its not going to be an IFly. Some european company (insert philosophical quote here)
  7. Are you using a mac? If so you need windows for it to work (insert philosophical quote here)
  8. 1000+ Plus jumps and my infinity semi-stowless bag. Used it with Katanas and velocities of various sizes. Opening were much improved. The infinity, depending on the size of the bag, only has 2-4 locking stows and the rest of the line is s folded into a pouch. I love it so much i could never go back to full line stows. 9. 300 jumps in 7 years? You need to jump more Shankman! (insert philosophical quote here)
  10. and also a bus that goes to new paltz from pen station. Cheap cab ride from there and could probably find someone to drive you back to new paltz. (insert philosophical quote here)
  11. After AFF you are considered a novice until you have your A license. You need 25 total jumps to get an A license. When you are on novice status most dropzones make you jump within their school program. Have to rent and use their gear and you have to make sure you don't go 30 days without jumping or you will most likely be made to do a currency. Novice status also limits who you are allowed to jump with and you have to follow very strict weather guidelines. When you have an A license you can jump you're own gear or rent non student sport gear and your currency goes up to 60 or 90 days. (forget which) You need your A license if you want to start jumping with other people and basically be your own boss. The Ranch pricing brings you all the way to your A license with no hidden or extra costs. It includes all 25 jumps you need. All the jump prices include gear rental, instructor, coach, packing fees....And you do not have to prepay. Please be weary of prepaying for AFF. So when comparing prices between dropzones make sure you know everything you're going to have to pay for. So figure out after you graduate aff how many more jumps you will need to make a total of 25 jumps and add that cost to the total of what you are paying for aff. The ranch it works out to be about 2600 including uspa membership fees. (insert philosophical quote here)
  12. Just so you guys understand, graduating AFF or AFP or whatever certain DZs call it is totally different than getting your A license. Your eventual goal is to get your A license. Can't do anything with out an A license. So when getting prices from DZs for the AFF program make sure you ask how much will it cost to get to my A license not how much is AFF. Also i would be weary of prepaying for AFF. You would be pretty unhappy about showing up at the DZ and not being able to jump because they had enough tandems to fill the plane for the entire day. And now you're locked into this dz cause you prepaid. (insert philosophical quote here)
  13. The ranch program takes you all the way to you A license which is 25 total jumps. Looking at the email you received you are prepaying for 19 jumps. You'd still have to pay for at least 6 more jumps to get your A license. Take the cost of that into consideration when comparing. (insert philosophical quote here)
  14. Is that price to get you past aff or take you all the way to your A license? And you have to prepay? (insert philosophical quote here)
  15. If you're on FaceBook try posting here about how you could get there. https://www.facebook.com/skydivetheranch?fref=ts Come for safety (march 30) and you can meet and talk to our instructors. You can also post in the safety day event about help getting there. https://www.facebook.com/events/457067327699521/ (insert philosophical quote here)
  16. Go to the Ranch. The ranch has 3 otter (holds 22 people) and a caravan (hold 12). Jersey shore only has cessnas. I think the most theirs can hold is 6 jumpers and probably only go to 10,500 feet where as the ranch goes to 13,500 feet. Students and fun jumpers do not get bumped for tandems at the ranch. Rarely ever have to wait for a load. You'll be able to get through AFF a lot faster at the ranch than at Jersey shore. Different DZ can structure their student programs differently. (insert philosophical quote here)
  17. You saved your life and you should be proud of yourself. Next time you find yourself with what may be an unsafe parachute to land please don't hesitate to chop cause you are worried about what people on the ground may say. I don't think its ever appropriate to make someone feel bad, or stupid about chopping even if chopping wasn't necessary.(not saying this was your case) Cause next time they might not chop what definitely is an unsafe canopy to land. If it were me i would be looking for a new DZ with people who are sympathetic and choose further training over berating. (insert philosophical quote here)
  18. Like riding a bike huh?? (insert philosophical quote here)
  19. I had a cut away once after opening my chest strap then popping the toggles. The excess stow was all kinds of knotted up. I was a little freaked out having to cut away with a completely loosened chest strap. So now i pop my toggles before loosening the chest strap. (insert philosophical quote here)
  20. I own a pair as well. Would never jump in them. I consider jumping in them to be only slightly safer than jumping bare foot. The chances of getting a toe caught and maybe ripped off are too great. Remember we don't always have the option to land in an obstacle free landing area. Shit happens. (insert philosophical quote here)
  21. Most people can learn a lot more on their canopies before they decided to downsize or go elliptical. That I agree 100%. But it doesn't necessarily mean they couldn't handle the switch. Dan is a great canopy pilot for his jump numbers. He knows more about canopy flight than most people with a 1000 jumps and that knowledge shows in his canopy flying. Sure he could learn more on his sabre 2 but he could easily handle the katana or xf2. Dan understand the step he is taking knows he won't be complacent about it. Dan, (waves hand) the xf2 is not the canopy you are looking for. (insert philosophical quote here)
  22. What the video fails or neglects to show is how a meshed reserve pilot chute works without the added burble of 2 instructors. It has great footage of a meshed pilot chute deploying with the burble of three people. So what get from the video is that the mesh-less pilot chute may be a better option for AFF students. It doesn't show me how it is a better option for licensed jumpers who deploy without two people holding on to them. Also doesn't show comparative video of a mesh pilot chute deploying after a break away using the same parachutes used for the tests shown. I'm not arguing over which pilot chute is better but i do agree with those who say the video is just marketing. (insert philosophical quote here)

  24. This topic kinda reminds me of those biker gangs that get their biker logos tattooed on them. And when they want out of the gang the other bikers remove said logos. After that are they still a part of the gang? So bruce.... Any skydiving tattoos? (insert philosophical quote here)
