Finally "no open carry" at some businesses
georgerussia replied to georgerussia's topic in Speakers Corner
We do not watch TV at all; we do not even have it. You can post some relevant news articles. Please find something recent (like past six months or so). * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. * -
Finally "no open carry" at some businesses
georgerussia replied to georgerussia's topic in Speakers Corner
Different items require different level of security depending on their potential. "Reasonable security" would mean completely different thing if we're talking about nuclear storage facility or shoes storage facility. I haven't heard yet of any violent crimes committed by criminals with stolen skydiving rigs. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. * -
Finally "no open carry" at some businesses

There was quite a bunch of references to crimes committed by various nutjobs with guns just in Jan 2010. So far I haven't seen a single recent situation where "a gun owner saved them because of some thug coming in to rob this place". The data speaks for itself. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. * -

Then it's the different case - those "protesters" open carry unloaded guns with ammo stored separately. No surprise as "law-abiding gun owners" provide criminals with like 300K weapons each year by being negligent enough to let them being stolen. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. * -

Nope, not unless you fail to read what was written. It is extremely clear what is written. You claimed that there are "substantially fewer voters in Richmond". Now your own data shows that: - There are MORE registered voters in Richmond than in San Ramon; - The number of votes cast in Richmond is HIGHER than in San Ramon; And you still claim that there are substantially fewer voters in Richmond? * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. * -

So this means you basically proved yourself wrong when you said in your previous post that there are substantially fewer voters in Richmond, is that right? * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. * -

Finally "no open carry" at some businesses

A majority of Richmond population (40%) are blacks, so they have no issues with citizenship or so. Those of them who work are very likely to be union as well (and the majority of those who don't is likely to be on welfare - it's a relatively poor city). Just this 40% almost matches the whole San Ramon population. From what I've read, blacks tend to be pretty much politically active here in CA, hence was my question. Do you open carry an unloaded gun (as those "protesters" do), or do you carry your regular loaded gun? This is a good question. The only problem is that such situations seems to be extremely rare. Local reports suggest that at least some gun owners are only concerned about themselves, so the situation you describe looks quite unrealistic. On the other side, we have all those crimes committed when yet another gun owner went crazy and started shooting others (or into air) - and the number of such crimes seems to be much larger than the number of situations where an armed gun owner saved " those that are against guns or open carry". * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. * -

To recall some history, just a few month ago I likely wouldn't care. That's gun nuts who changed me that way. I wonder how many of those who now disapprove their actions (did you read the comments?) didn't really care a few months ago either? There is a obvious line between reasonable protesting and being grossly rude. A gay couple dressing up as a priest with attached strap-on and underage teen playing up sexual activity might also have been making a political statement protesting against increase in pedophilia in churches. But doing so inside a family church on Sunday would be just as gross as brandishing your unloaded guns in front of moms with kids. Richmond population is 99,216 (2000) San Ramon population is 44,722 (2000) Are you sure there are substantially fewer voters in Richmond? * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. * -

And they made it - but not the kind of statement they expected. Indeed a lot of comments are something like "Need to carry big gun out in open = need to make up for some unseen inadequacy" and "pistol packin' = tiny penis" * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. * -

Indeed, they just went to piss off locals - who now think there gun laws in CA are too relaxed allowing such demonstrations of stupidity in public. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. * -

Neither they have a duty to "patrol" San Ramon - and they still went there. The way I see it is that if they walked around East Oakland, were approached by criminals, and one or more got hurt while others would load their guns and bring a criminal down, it would a) bring a lot of good publicity for gun owners and b) provided a poster child example why current laws might need alterations like allowing carrying a loaded gun. Instead they went to a little and safe San Ramon, where the obvious reaction would be pissed off moms with kids and multiple calls to 911. Gun owners now look pretty much like jerks who are bullying with their guns on hips around families (who have no idea whether someone's gun is loaded or not), and piss off local cops who have to follow those 911 calls instead of working on real crimes. You don't have to believe me - just read the comments, they are pretty obvious, and this is extremely negative publicity. I actually wonder if the second types of a gun owner - the one which "practically put up billboards of their ownership, practice, paranoia" EVER done anything good for the gun right movement? * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. * -
First part was kinda crap. Second was excellent. Third was crap. Fourth was kinda funny, more like "good old stuff". First part was crap. Second was good. I didn't see the third. Never seen it, but from what I heard from others seems to be an extreme piece of crap. My wife liked Avatar though. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

Immigrating to the US. How much money do one need?

Your (and her) previous job experience is more important than a diploma. I know nothing about childcare, but engineering employers here in U.S. seem not to really care about your diploma (even if it's a diploma from a known good school), and much more on your previous work experience you have and can prove. Did you try Green Card lottery? I personally know over 10 locals who got green cards through it - in fact, I myself got mine through it. While this is not a reliable way (I'd rather say you should try it if you're not really concerned whether you'd get it or not), it solves a lot of issues. It typically takes 6-18 months from the moment a company files the paperwork to USCIS to the moment you actually start working for them - may give you an idea what kind of expectations they may have. Keep in mind that there are a lot of locals who already here, looking for a job and do not have any issues with visas - so if your qualifications are good and unique enough, and you have a lot of relevant experience, you'll get through. If it is not the case, I'd suggest postponing it for a couple of years until the economy recovers. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. * -
As I said before, Somali seems to be a perfect place for those who demand NO government control over ANY aspect of their life. It is always funny to ask so-called "libertarians" how exactly they are going to implement their model of society to hear back that it would be enforced by law. So much for "less government control"! * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

I don't think there are less voters in Richmond or East Oakland than in San Ramon. So I rather agree with RonD1120- they were kind of chicken protesters. It probably felt good to safely parade with a strapped gun in front of families with children where they knew they wouldn't have to use their gun. It might have worked completely different somewhere like East Oakland - and that was likely to be the reason they didn't go there. And why didn't they go to San Francisco - there seem to be quite a few neighborhoods which would benefit from such patrolling, and there is definitely more voters than in San Ramon? * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. * -
The healthcare debate taught me that some people here are very good in criticizing everything others do, but at the same time cannot propose anything reasonable themselves. Hence was my question. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

I wonder if you contacted your elected representatives asking them to refuse any money going to Iowa? If all Republican states would do so, it'd go huge way to cut spending! Put your money where you mouth is. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

The spending total The spending total consists of all things mentioned (which include having veterans programs exempted from the cuts). Are you objecting to _all_ expenses (and therefore suggest cuts for veteran programs to lower the spending), or only to some specific cases? * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

I feel more comfortable around a citizen without a weapon. Seems like most of commenters are as well. And I really wonder why those "protesters" didn't go somewhere like East Oakland, Richmond or East Palo Alto - places where they might actually need their gun to protect themselves - and went instead to San Ramon, Livermore and Cupertino - places with relatively little crime. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. * -
Quite well, you say? You mean, a black person, a non-Christian person, or a separated woman were able to get the same amount of needed help as they can now? You remember why Social Security and other programs were established? Indeed, and that is the problem. However there is little which could be done on a country level. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *
-
This only works in abstract world. If you try to implement it in real world, you'll quickly find out that the number of people who would like to GET help is larger than the number who would like to PROVIDE help. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *
-
There is a lot of things mentioned, and I assume you do not object to all of them (like having veterans programs exempted from the cuts). What exactly you are objecting to? * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

Finally "no open carry" at some businesses

One guy made it clear in comments: There are two types of gun owners I know. The type where you say "never knew that, you have guns?" and the types that practically put up billboards of their ownership, practice, paranoia. What is interesting is that gun owners from the first group seem to be kinda pissed off on the second group as well: I suggest a reverse boycott -- I'm going to Peets and CPK to support their policy. I am a gun owner. That's my business. But I think open display is silly, attention-seeking. May as well go in with your junk hanging out. Imagine going to these restaurants with a samurai sword or a machete. People wouldn't like that either. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *
