  1. unfortunately no matter how much you "idiot proof" a rig society will always produce a bigger idiot to still f@#$ something up
  2. if tandem masters did their job properly to begin with by putting the harness on properly, we wouldn't even be having this conversation because there would be no such thing as the Y mod. If the harness is done up correctly the student can't fall out. That also includes having them connected properly to the tandem master
  3. love icarus aways had great service. Even when my new canopy split they realised it was their mistake and fixed it at their cost and also gave me a discount on another canopy
  4. Student 240 20 jumps Sabre 1 150- 150 jumps Spectre 135- 100 jumps Heatwave 120- 700 jumps Extreme FX 99- 400 jumps Extreme FX89- 1200 jumps JVX89- 40 jumps
  5. I agree with you and i do pretty much exactly the same as you do when some one brings me a rig to pack. The point of my comment was i won't let someone who hasn't gone and done they're ticket supervise me pack their reserve to tell me wether it is right or not. I encourage people to take part in it and learn about there gear
  6. exactly right. I have a ticket to pack reserves and if someone without a ticket asks me to pack their reserve but they are gonna supervise me i'll tell them to find another packer. I don't know about anyone else but i'm not gonna have someone checkup/telling me how to pack a reserve who hasn't gone and done the ticket themselves

Anyone out there jumping an argus aad. If anyone has got any opinions or experiences with them, good and bad, would be greatly apreciatd Blue Skies
  8. i started at 16, best thing i ever did, go for it
  9. Don't be such a tight ass and buy an aad. Is your life not worth the cost of an aad
  10. I started my aff when i turned 16 i'm now 23 and am the senior instructor at my dz. what more could i ask for
  11. This is not an uncommon occurance on square canopies in the 190-130sqf categories. especially when lightly loaded.IN my opinion of what happens purely by seeing it happen a couple of times is when you do a radical turn on a big canopy like that is that the canopy starts the turn and dive quite fast but then wants to slow up very quickly, a lot slower then what the body stops the turn at, thus inducing line twists. i always recomened to my students on these canopies as their first canopy to take it easy below 2 grand
  12. the hornet is a basic square canopy, a copy of the sabre. they are not a high performance canopy and because of the trim they are not really suitable for big front riser turns especially if they aren't loaded much. it will buck around on you, it is just a characteristic of the canopy
  13. where i work we offer 6000ft tandems. with the right person they can be fun however with the wrong person they can be scary.
  14. I use all of the aproaches dependant on the conditions of the day. I f there is no wind i'll do a 90 aproach, not for the swoop, only because i've got more speed to get more lift at the end of the flair. If here is wind i'll just bring it straight in and wether or not i'm looking hot on the target (catchers) i'll bring it in in brakes. Jumping where there is not often much wind i generally stand about 50% of them
  15. First of all as a TI I would never consider having the laterals that loose on my passenger, any number of things can go wrong. Second of all, apart from being a stupid thing to do, the TI should be showing of for the camera like that. The focus of the whole video is the student not the TI trying to upstage the student or be the centre of attention. The passenger pays a lot of money for there videos it should be all about them not what the guy on the back can do to show off. Personally i think any TI who is stupid enough to do that should have there TI rating pulled
  16. All i'm gonna say is if a vidiot needs to hang on to get good exit shots then they shouldn't be there filming. Regardless of how good the camera flyer is i'm not gonna jepordise my safety or my passengers safety by letting someone hang on. there just seems to be too many cons than pros for me on this subject. Dare i say it but if you want the good exit shots you can always go H/C.
  17. I work at a dropzone where we offer both outside camera and handycam. First of all i'll say that the people who have had handycam and see an outside vid think that the handycam is much better, and the people who had outside wished they had handycam. We only really do outside camera with stills. I have never heard anyone say handycam is shit. Having done 500+ hanycam with my fair share off chops, the camera has never been an issue. When i've had a struggling student the camera has still never been an issue. There certainly are tandem masters out there who should never do handycam, and quite frankly not doing tandems at all. But for some people who have never done it before or refuse to do it should not be saying why it is shit and why no one should be doing it. We brought handycam in at my DZ where i work simply because the camera staff were not reliable and we never new who was going to turn up. so we solved by getting rid of the camera man themselves. It would be a shame to see outside camera die out all together because it is a good prodeuct but doing hanycam works out to be more cost effective, especialy for the smaller operators, It's certainly not because we want to show off.
  18. AS soon as the canopy is open and i've checked it i undo the clips and they stay of. The side clips shouldn't be that tight that you need the student to stand on your feet to undo the clips. if you do need them to stand on your feet the side clips are to tight. It's is much more comfortable for the student having done a lot of tandems on the front aswell, and it is much easier to land. Remember it is all about the student so you have to make it as comfortable for them as possible.
  19. the best handcam glove on the market is a waycool upright glove. they are made solid and unlike anyother glove out there it is the only one that i have seen that doesn't shake in freefal. As for the lense you can' go wrong with a .25 lense, anything wider is to wide. You get everything you need with a .25. Having done over 400 H/C jumps with a waycool setup i wouldn't go anything else
  20. If it's an older person i will hold their forehead otherwise i don't
