I agree Dave. I’m glad to see USPA trying new ideas to get new jumpers. This program may not be perfect…but at least it is something. I think that this program seems to be a step in the right direction. I don't understand why so many people think that this is such a bad thing? USPA is sending an email to someone (who has voluntarily given them their name and email), saying thanks for going on your first skydive and letting them know that there is more out there than crossing of an item on the life to-do list. As a first time jumper, wouldn't you appreciate getting an email saying "Thank you for making your first skydive. It is an experience that you will remember forever. But it doesn't have to stop with that jump....imagine being a future national champion skydiver, or being a part of a new state/national formation record, or simply making new friends that share the thrill and excitement that skydiving has to offer." etc. I know that I would certainly have appreciated something like that after my first jump. I probably would have gotten into the sport earlier than I did. When you are able to make a person think about themselves in a scenario, you make it personal to them and are more likely to get a repeat customer. Most DZOs don't have the time and resources available to send a note to every one of their first time jumpers from the previous weekend. I would think that most DZs would appreciate USPA taking this on for them. In essence, it is another level of customer service in my opinion.

ok how do you do the same problem with 8 cubes? little harder anyways Why not just put them on two at a time (one on each side)...it will either balance or be light on one side, thus, the last cube added is the light one. What are the only two days of the year when no major sporting games are played (NHL, NBA, MLB, NFL)?

Last time I checked, until last Tuesday NC had been a "red" state for decades, so blame the Republicans, not the Dems. A democrat has been the governor since 1993...so I'll throw out your hypothesis on the republicans. The point of my post was not a "let's point fingers" game. The point was to inquire into what the process should be in order to eliminate voter fraud. I would imagine that you are pretty familiar with vote fraud, seeing that you are from Chicago. Surely, you have seen problems and have an opinion? To answer another post, yes, I did have to sign something and they did put "cross off" my name. So that would prevent me from voting twice using my name. But what is to prevent me from using my boss's name? I know his name and his address...I could walk into his polling place and say that I was him and vote. When he shows up to vote...tough shit pal...we have it here that you already voted.
-
A little background first...I moved to NC this year and had to change over my Drivers License. To do that I had to bring in proof of ID, social security card, proof of residence, etc. During this process I registered to vote in NC. No problems here, I presented the necessary documents required by law, got my DL and my voter registration card a few weeks later. Election Day - I go into the polling place and was asked for my name and address. After giving these to the person, I was handed my ballot. ???? No form of ID was required. I even asked the worker if she needed to see ID, voter registration card, etc. I was told no and that they were not allowed to ask for it. I replied by asking the lady how she knew I was who I say I am. She said she didn't and couldn't do anything about it. I find this very unsettling. No matter who you vote for, I would think that most people would see problems in this process. Seems like this is just an invitation for rampant voter fraud. All I would have to do to cast numerous ballots, it seems, is to go through the phone book and write down names and addresses, go to the poll and vote numerous times. So, my question is...what is the best way to ensure that voter fraud is prevented? To vote in the US, you need to meet certain requirements....over 18, US citizen, etc. what would be the best way to ensure that those voting meet these requirements and only get one vote? How is this handled in other countries? I really find it strange that more proof is required to be able to drive legally than it is to effect the laws of a country.

I stand corrected. I guess I had remembered it from the training not from having the SIM memorized by chapter numbers.

PLF ??? For a water landing ?? Maybe I'm ill-informed, but that sounds goofy. While I don't believe that it is in the SIM, it is suggested that a person PLF when landing in water due to the depth of the water not always being known. Last thing you want to do is cutaway or splash down hard in water that you think is deep enough...when it is really only 1 ft deep.

I love Vince Flynn's books. I pre-ordered the new one and am expecting it any day now. Sadly, I just started reading "Spy" by Ted Bell...so I have to finish that before I get to see what's up with Mitch Rapp next. Ted Bell's character, Alex Hawke, is similar to Mitch Rapp. I'm enjoying the series very much. I met Vince Flynn last year at a signing outside of DC...very nice guy. I told him to write faster

Skysystems has a new slider keeper called the Skytie (I think that's what they named it). It uses an elastic band that is slid up the top reserve flap to the yoke. Attached to the elastic band is a piece of webbing that has two magnets that keep the keeper closed before and after you stow your slider. I thought that it is pretty creative and seems to be less worrisome than velcro or the plastic balls. I've had one for a few weeks and like it. It is very easy to use and holds the slider well. And.....I look much cooler

See for yourself (attached). USD/EUR Fx rates from 1/1/07 - 1/16/08. Put in a USD or EUR value and it will convert for you and you can see the spread over this time period.
-
Have you considered "buying" currency at at the current exchange rate and then just paying in the manufacturer's local currency? This is what they call hedging. The risk here is that the fx rate drops below the point you bought the currency...thus it would have been cheaper had you waited. On the flip side, if the fx rate goes up, you win.

Hi, I still don't see how this was solved? I know who you are referring to as far as the claim that two guys "solved" the case against Mayfield. I've also read every single one of their posts on WebSleuths forum. The problem again is that they didn't present one single piece of hard evidence. They also have just made a string of conjectures about someone. Granted, they presented some interesting theories...however, nothing they said or claimed could be proved with any hard evidence. For example - they raised questions on the land lease Mayfield made shortly after the hijacking occurred. They claim that Ted came into money as a result of the hijacking...however, they never presented anything to prove this. Nothing...just pure speculation. It is these kind of things that have continued to be put out on these threads. This is why I can't understand why anyone thinks this case is solved.
-
I'm curious to know why you think this case is solved? It doesn't seem that there is a "smoking gun" at all in any of this....only a bunch of speculation and theories, that at best, very loosely tie anyone of the major "suspects" presented. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but has one single piece of HARD evidence been shown by anyone? I just think that there is so much missing from all of this to be able to say this case is solved.

Hi, I am curious about this. In an earlier post you say "The brother had not seen Duane since the 50's when his mother died..." So, how is this relevant? The first 727 flew in 1963. The timeline just seems to long to be of any consequence for all this. Thanks,

As already mentioned...Knob Creek and Woodford Reserve...however, there are a couple others that are not being mentioned...which is a serious tragedy. Basil Hayden, Booker's and Baker's. I have a bottle of Booker's that was given to me 7 years ago that I have not opened yet.....saving it for the right time...yes, it is that good.

What are the only two days of the year when there are no major sporting event games in the US? (major = baseball, football, hockey, basketball) The day before and after the Baseball All Star Game

My friend sent me this. It is the schedule for all the D1 teams (I think). It has the teams broken out by conference and with helmet icons in an excel file http://www.martyandmiller.com/files/ncaa07fbsched.zip

While this is certainly true, disabling or deleting a macro the simply password protects and unprotects all sheets in the workbook isn't going to do you any good if the sheet is sent out password protected. You can find password breaker macros on the internet...but I don't think that most people go to that extreme.
-
This will certainly help keep your formulas protected. However, the best thing to do would be to have a macro that can easily be run at the opening of the workbook that will allow you to protect and unprotect all of the sheets in the workbook at once. Therefore, you could hide the contents or lock the cells and only the person with the password can modify anything. I've attached a workbook that has exactly this type of protection. Currently it is protected without a password, so feel free to copy the coding and apply it to your workbook.
