Hi all, I did my first two jumps yesterday and I ACHE everywhere :) Can anyone advise me on some exercises for really tight back? I've got muscles aching in places I never new I had places :) We're grounded by weather today, but I'm hoping to get up again tomorrow, so I don't want things to totally sieze up on me. Thanks in advance :)

I used to think that way. I used to have a gripe with a lot of news pictures and stories. Why was he taking those pictures instead of helping? Why couldn't he leave those people to grieve in peace. Over time, I've changed my mind a bit. If no-one tells the story, then that grief is just a private sadness. That starving child is just a statistic on an annual report. Sure, you can write about it, but one good image, that one picture that catches you as you're flicking the pages in the newspaper and makes you stop - that really is worth a thousand words. With these pictures more people can be reached. More people can learn about the suffering, and the hurt and the grief goes from being a private affair to something that can help to change the world. The starving child becomes real to the reader 15,000 km's away. And for their trouble, a lot of these reporters have very bad breakdowns and other psychotic incidents. Reporters get tortured and killed while trying to bring us the pictures from places like Rwanda and Iraq. They make very real personal sacrifices every day to shove that camera in those people's faces, to bring the soul of that story home to us sitting in our comfortable lives. I respect them for that, but I can see how it would be hard to bear.

Hi all, Can anyone who is familiar with Spanish weather please help me out. The weather forecast for the next couple of days is pretty bleak... see http://uk.weather.com/weather/local/SPXX0010?x=0&post=post&code=code&y=0 When there are showers forecast, does that mean that the day is a write-off? What I'm getting at is how likely is it that the weather will be bleak all day, or will there be clear patches that I can hope to get a jump or two in? Where I'm from in South Africa, when they forecast showers we normally have a clear day to start and then around 13:00 the clouds roll in. sometime between 15:00 and 18:00 we have a chuck-down thunderstorm, and then it clears up again. Can I expect the same, or can I expect a lot of time learning how to code for Core Data ? Thanks in advance :)

Sorry, I can't offer any advice on this. The only thing I am aware of with regards to wedding etiquette is that it is frowned upon to try and hit on the bride / groom. Beyond that, I never could work it out :)

Full time dropzone for AFF in California / Las Vegas
RandomLemming replied to RandomLemming's topic in Safety and Training
Hi all, I was hoping to get my AFF completed before going to the US in April, but this is now not likely to happen. Can anyone recommend a school that runs every day of the week where I might be able to get my AFF while over there? I can make 5 continuous days anywhere from just south of the Big Sur (highway 1) around Santa Barbara to just south of Las Angeles or 5 days in Las Vegas. Any advice much appreciated, and obviously personal recommendations are preferred :D -
Thanks a lot for the info!

What exactly do I need to jump in the USA?
RandomLemming replied to RandomLemming's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
All, I'm doing my AFF through freefalluniversity in March, but it's looking like I definitely won't be getting my A licence due to time constraints. I'm trying to find out exactly what I need to be able to jump in the USA. I want to jump in Santa Barbara and Las Vegas. Will my AFF and my consolidation jumps be enough, or am I wasting my time with this ? Thanks in advance -
Hi there, How long ago were you at the Freefall Uni? I'm due there in a couple of weeks and I'd appreciate any feedback that you have :) How long were you there for ? Also, are you saying that you came away without your A licence? The main reason I'm going is to get my A sorted, as I want to jump in the US in April. If you find out what you need to get this sorted, I'd really appreciate hearing :)

Adidas goggles suitable for skydiving ?
RandomLemming replied to RandomLemming's topic in Gear and Rigging
Hmm - I just got in contact with Optics Planet.com about the Wiley's and they can't help me. They've told me that they Wiley X will only go to +/- 3. So it's back to the adidas with the inserts. Being half blind is a bit sucky :( -

Sorry to bug you again, but I don't see anything on that page about these being able to take a prescription. Have I missed something somewhere ? -
Adidas goggles suitable for skydiving ?

The Adidas Elevation's have a clear lens option. The optician seemed pretty confused as to why I wanted it, but I have made sure to order it :) -
Adidas goggles suitable for skydiving ?

You don't have a link or a model for the Nike at all do you ? I had a look at a couple of items today. The Adidas elevation looks like it _might_ work, but the insert is quite small. Also, my prescription is pretty bad, so it's going to be a bit of a wait and see job. I wouldn't mind looking at other options in the meantime :) -

Ah ,thanks - I didn't even notice that :) What I should have done was find another page with the product seeing as that flash mess wouldn't let me direct link: ) -
Adidas goggles suitable for skydiving ?
RandomLemming replied to RandomLemming's topic in Gear and Rigging
I've just been looking at the Elevation: http://www.sportspectacles.co.uk/AdidasElevationClimaCool.asp I'm not sure I can tell the difference between it and the Evil Eye, but I have found an optician that I will be visiting tomorrow to check these out. Hopefully this will do the trick - now to just find some half way decent sunglasses and I'm done. The only problem is that now that I've solved my glasses problem, what do I do for the next 21 days until ground school starts? :D Thanks all! -
Adidas goggles suitable for skydiving ?
RandomLemming replied to RandomLemming's topic in Gear and Rigging
Thanks for the pointer. I'll see if I can find those in the Uk :) At the moment, it looks like I may have found some adidas climacool goggles that look a little bit more suitable. I'm going to try a pair tomorrow, and to find out if they do them in clear lenses. -

What are those, and do they come in a prescription option ? If they are, they would be ideal :) -
Adidas goggles suitable for skydiving ?
RandomLemming replied to RandomLemming's topic in Gear and Rigging
Thanks to a lot of people who replied about my glasses frame post, I've been looking at all of my options. I was just wondering if adidas goggles are suitable for skydiving. I've found a set at http://www.adidas.com/eyewear/catalogue/index.asp?pFilter=category&pValue=sc_6&strCountry_adidascom=com&strBrand_adidascom=performance specifically the yodai model that takes a regular glasses insert. My only worry is that this goggle is a little big and might get really tugged at while doing things like backloops. Can anyone please advise me if this would be a suitable goggle for jumping ? If not, I guess it's just wait for SportRx to be able to deliver :D -
3rd party insurance problem
RandomLemming replied to meistwer's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
My bad :) I was just looking at buying once to cover my jumping plans for the year. But it's looking like it will be better to just buy in little bits as and when required, yeah. -
3rd party insurance problem
RandomLemming replied to meistwer's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I looked at Endsleigh, but for about 6 months I'm looking at £229 which seems pretty high. The main thing I'm looking for is the 3rd party liability cover as that is what the school I am going to requires. -
Best glasses frame for skydiving ?
RandomLemming replied to RandomLemming's topic in Gear and Rigging
Just checked - looks like the bloke I normally see there. not sure if it's you. Please send 2 credit cards as ID and I'll get back to you. Or me. Now I'm confused. That's pretty much what I found when I tried them. It was fantastic not having these smudgable things on my face getting spotted and wet in the rain, etc. The downside was that I couldn't see as well. That wasn't a downside I was comfortable with. Then the troubles started with them rotating out or drying out and sticking - that was just too much. Wow... Hero! :D I can live with mangled depth perception when walking down oxford street. When approaching the ground at too many miles per hour, I'd actually like to see it coming in a way that allows me to decide when to flare. I was hoping for a visual signal, rather than impact ;) Cunning! So all you've got are the arms attached to some lenses ? My worry there is that with -6/-5, I would have pretty thick looking glasses. My frames help to hide some of that. I guess my other option is the ultra thin lenses, but those cost an arm and a leg and I get micro scratches on lenses with no effort at all. Does the titanium spring back after being under goggles ? I currently have a set of Nike flexon frames, but vision express wrecked them. So I'm getting new frames as a result (or a jail sentence - watch this space). I might just risk the Nike's under goggles and live with any discomfort. I'm also going to order a set of SportRx goggles, but I doubt they'll get here in time. -
3rd party insurance problem
RandomLemming replied to meistwer's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Hi there, I'm looking for 3rd party insurance because I have to have this before I go to spain to do my AFF. The benefits at http://www.sportscoverdirect.com/sportsguard/info/benefits.html state that I would have personal liability insurance. Is that the same thing as 3rd party liability insurance ? -
