  2. (Silhouette as sort of a PD-2, in a way. Its a great canopy, a sleeper in our product range.)--yeah! "...our test jumpers usually ask..." Our what?? Test jumpers??? How do I apply for that job?? mike fly nylon
  3. "What do you expect on a first date? Breakfast in bed" WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRREEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. Hey, Why does the Navy keep Marines on ships? Sheep would be obvious. See, I do have a sense of humor. And, If I ever hear someone tell that joke who hasn't served in either of the two, fine sea services above, expect to find my Kabar planted firmly in your solar plexus. peace. mike fly nylon
  5. "Nope, I'm not offended, just amused." then my mission was complete. mike fly nylon
  6. In Somalia, it was great to be with both the army and the air force. We had nothing when we hit mogadishu. Within two days, I had re-appropriated tables, desks, cammie netting, a computer and even a humvee. "Where did I park that damn Hummer? The c.o.'s gonna have my ass." Doh!!! And the airforce had women!!!!! In Somalia!!!!! Certainly better than the locals, then again, Justin's better than those locals.
  7. "I've just read a lot about the Marine Corps." Ah, so you like reading about REAL warriors kicking REAL ass--unlike that weakling, going-for-the-gibill, it's better-than-welfare, couldn't-hold-a-hill-to-save-a-life, 40%-spanish-speaking crap outfit you used to lovingly call home. Please tell me your are reading about my beloved Corps out of respect and honor of the greatest fighting force on the face of the earth and not to fulfill your twisted, stinkfist man-love desires. Please? ...and if I have offended, please don't cry, you know how I hate that. It's a sign of weakness, and the cure for weakness is evisceration... peace, mike fly nylon
  8. "who was the top, who was the bottom and whether reach-arounds or spurs were involved" the words of a highly-trained professional?
  9. BWWWWWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHHHAAAA Ahem, HHHHHHHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAH
  10. Thanks for the excellent info. The plans are forming now. mike
  11. We were talking about the sabre. It is not tapered according to the website. The Spectre is lightly tapered. mike and if I mentioned square, please replace that word with non-tapered
  12. Old #33 Brewed in beautiful downtown Latrobe, Pa. Home of Arnold Palmer. Yuengling is another PA beer that I have found to be quite agreeable. Try it if you can find it. beers! mike
  13. a snivel is one thing. I have looked up, stared, prayed, then eyeballed and grabbed my cutaway handle, looked up to see the slider start to make it's way down. I thought it was excessive. The line twists seemed to start as the bag was above my head--very well could have been body position, but I must have cleared it up just before I got the Silhouette. The Silhouette, when womari packed, I can tell if I added an extra turn in the tail as it deploys. It is that predictable. It does snivel enough to make the deployment soft, but I don't have to change my drawers after getting down. peace mike
  14. I didn't complain until I got my silhouette. Maybe I got a bad Spectre and a great Silhouette. mike
  15. Phree, I jumped a Spectre 230 at 1:1 for jumps 3-9. It sniveled forever, usually as it spun in some line twists. It was sluggish (based on the Silhouette as a reference) in turns and the desent rate was so much higher, if I didn't flare at exactly the right time, I would be planted firmly onto the earth's surface. I have been jumping the Silhouette at 1.1:1 since #10 (now 22 overall). I think it simply kicks ass in flight. It doesn't take much to get a nice surf out of it either. mike
  16. Really?? I can't see the superiority of the Spectre--both in flying it and on paper. It's all ZP, but that's where you lose me. I hated the Spectre. Crap openings and flew around like a volkswagen at datona. Maybe it was just me. I am a freak, after all. peace, mike
  17. the actual specs on PDs website don't reflect that. The chord is one measurement, while the rest of the canopies have two numbers in the chord column.
  18. "If the swoopy landing is your thing you may want to look at a nine cell (Sabre, Safire, Sabre II, Hornet) instead." Hmmmph.....arms crossed with a slight scowl.....nobody ever recommends the Silhouette. I love mine. Easy to pack, soft on-heading openings, zippy performance and great glide. I can get 20 feet across the ground with minimal effort on landing at 1.1:1. I've jumped it since #10 and I can attest to it's forgiveness. It's also more elliptical than the spectre (it also has a higher aspect ratio, closer to the stiletto) and I totally prefer it's performance over the spectre I jumped at 1:1. The Sabre2 is square, but I can say nothing more since I have never jumped one. Someday I am gonna start a Silhouette fan club, but it just may be me alone in the basement of a church drinking coffee, staring at the clock and thinking about taking a smoke break soon. peace, mike
  19. Outstanding. Another DZ.commer at the Search. Are you interested in trying to get in on those canopy control classes if you get there early? If there's enough of us, they can't say no. See ya there. mike
  20. Andrea, You're a doll. Thanks for the heads up on the bunkhouse situation. The Holiday Inn is like $75 a night. That's jumps. I will check with Solly and do a little research myself. Do you mind if I bounce a couple places off ya later since you're in the know? I couldn't wait to do the canopy control classes before. Now I am drooling. Thanks again!! mike
  21. Actually, I think we stayed right on topic. We just decided that if there was any silicone in the closing loop, it wouldn't have changed its properties due to temperature, therefore shouldn't have caused the pin to hang up. mike
  22. I am speaking from the experience I have had with the silicone lube I used on my guns, but it would get gummy at temperatures below freezing and had a tendancy to migrate in warmer temps.
  23. everyone is pretty fast to dismiss this one: "1) Is it possible the cold weather caused the closing loop to shrink and that is what caused the delay/hesitation?" but, if it is a silicone impregnated closing loop, the answer is yes. It is possible. Silicone actually becomes sticky at around ten degrees. peace, mike
  24. It's in Deland. I am planning on coming down a few days early (screw deadlines) and make some jumps to get used to the place. I am also going to make every attempt at doing as many of those canopy control jumps (instruction, 5k hnp, video and debrief for $25 is THE deal) as I can squeeze in prior to the Search. Can you come out and play on Monday or Tuesday (feb 25,26)??? If you, or anyone else, has any clue or suggestions about where to stay for the week, please let me know. Skydivedeland.com was less than helpful. I did read something about bunkhouses? Any info would be appreciated. I am probably going to rent a car and drive down with a tent. When I reak too bad that the bugs stop biting, I'll get a hotel room for that night and shower. mike
