  1. It's 3 in the morning here, so my brain is a bit ... sorry about the confusion
  2. O.K so when it's head down : You have similar shape (profile) and assuming you are streamlined shape with arms and legs tucked in, Not much surface area (frontal area) difference in air resistance, assume similar material and the skin drag is negligible, less air density higher up means less drag coefficient and increases as you fall, you only got mass difference. Belly, you have lots of air resistance from surface, skin drag close to 0% , coeff has more effect, and we have mass difference.
  3. I still think it is a D.E MakeItHappen. Cos when you jump from a plane you have horizontal velocity, so you have a parabolic trajectory.
  4. Of course it does. It involves drag and air density. O.K I might be making it complicated myself. Let me think some more ...
  5. OP Do you understand calculus ? It's a differential equation. The only drag that matters is the surface area x-z plane. (horizontal) your head, shoulders , arm, legs that hits the air. What's vertical and in the streamline, you can neglect, unless you have lots and lots of material flapping along you. You are slicing fluid, let's leave it like that. So, yeah, body position. Head down and belly guess what the result is gonna be ?
  6. OK, I can check my pin by reaching my hand behind me. I know how it should feel so no problem... Actually I started this practice after going to Eloy. I got a pin check from a member of Airspeed and he snapped the stiffner in my flap. Got a bit disappointed that who ever it was didn't tell me or apologize, I found out later on the ground. No drama, but since then no one touches my pin.
  7. I used to fly a safire2. I like the openings. Got the brakes shortened 5cm. The openings on the sabre2 that I tried had a tendency to turn right and open a little abrupt. Maybe the trim and/or my packing. Other than that not all that different IMO. Personal choice. Both good canopy to learn ground launch. I like my crossfire2 now.
  8. Interesting ... so how did find skydiving coming from the tunnel ? What was the effect about the rig ? cheers
  9. Cheers, Drew. I haven't entirely given up on the tunnel. I do practice flying in air without my arms. I'd put my hand on my hip, then I put it on my chest. I can't imagine sticking both arms in front at the moment without backsliding. Yes it does take a lot of jumps. Sometimes it gets too much it takes the fun out.
  10. Here is my experience ... Tunnel helps. No doubt about that. As for sit flying I can do it in air, take docks, etc, but I can't sit in the tunnel. I enjoy flying on my back but just can make the sit. Makes me wonder if the rig makes it that easier to sit or what !? I've had freefly coaching in air and was surprised/disappointed I couldn't sit in the tunnel.
  11. OK. About breathing... Can you swim? Like freestyle (Australian Crawl) Breathing problems can be easily be fixed by simple awareness. Which is the beginning of breathing? Inhale or exhale ? You are not going to be able to take a big breath if you don't get air out of you first.
  12. I like tracking. If there is a tracking load I'd like to be on one. Wish there are more. Doing the Mok-up and getting the exit order helps ... Also dressing for success. Baggy cloths for most people other than light weights. No booties. I'm a light weight so jumping with heavy people (meaning most others) have been a challenge... ie) when others are sit flying I'm standing. But these experiences have given me the range to fly. Also I appreciate it when a heavy guy is making himself really big and me flying a chicken track. I think every track jump with someone else with different fall rate makes you better at it and one day you find yourself jumping in bigger ways.
  13. OP, (and the rest of you) I think you have to practice counting, or you speaka weirdo lingo.. "Flying" alone already fills up 5. Fu-La-i-n-gu japanese sounds ends in vowels (a,i,u,e,o) exception n ie) ka, ki, ku ,ke, ko, ga,gi, gu, ge, go you count these up
  14. Mate, you do that when you go up in the plane. I still do it. Look at the ground at different hights to see what it looks like. Desert looks different from tree area, etc.
  15. Maybe you should up size and rent out student gear. Maybe you can do a tandem jump and get the feel ... Definitely get some canopy coaching ! How did you get thru AFF? methinks in any sport the key is awareness ... to realize what you are doing ! where is your eyes focused .. some people get target fixation, some people just look right under their feet, not further enough. Like if you are riding a bicycle you don't look where the tires are going on the road, do you? you look ahead what's coming .. It must be frustrating and scary because you are not sure how your landing turns out. Difficult to relax. I hope you get your confidence and landings back .
  16. That happened to me, too . It was during the canopy ride, the straps digging in and I just shifted the straps to a more comfty position like Willevo said... The rig just didn't have much padding and not wide enough. Have fun and good luck with your AFF
  17. Hi, I'm about 120~125 lbs and I used to fly 139 safire for about 350 jmps. I don't go up there if it's over 10 kts. I like nil wind, or down wind landings. I like your approach letting every one land ... I practiced 90 degree fronts and being accurate on it. Putting a cone, noodle, ball whatever and kicking it on a swoop. I went GL and discovered landing with rears. These things all happened because I was in an environment that inspired. When I downsized to a 109 Xfire I was surprised that it wasn't so different especially if it was like 5 kts headwind. I have a feeling at my weight a big difference will be between 89 and 99 canopy sizes. I'm just guessing here, but at our weight the world is different compared to someone who weighs 60 lbs more. I hope you find something that clicks. Opening higher up and going cross country is fun ....or going somewhere you never flew before...
  18. I go and watch the packers. You got the information. Now go and see how they do it. Might as well see how they are packing the tandem rigs, too ... Wish you luck.
  19. yeah, go jump more. I'm 58 kg and I used to jump with a guy who is 100 kg. If we can jump together on our belly and track together ....
  20. Tattoos.. Permanent proof of temporary insanity
  21. In situations like that you can say, I see that you got a bit of a rush out from that but that was downright dodgy. Try and plan things a bit better next time. It's OK to be cocky, but be a SAFE cocky....or you'll end up being grounded. cheers
  22. I have flying dreams. I like high places. I thought this was the way to do it. I think it is one of the best things that happened to me.
  23. He has lost seven friends.... your missing something here, have a heart. It' s the one's that are alive, grieve. I think it' s just amazing to be alive. Thanks for sharing...
