Does anyone out there do this kind of work? Does it work and is it really worth it. Seems our site used to be near the top, but lately has fallen. Tons of companies charge a fortune for this type of work, but it seems to me that it is nothing more than adding META tags to the web pages and then submitting to search engines repeatedly over time. layman's terms anyone? Again, I gotta ask, A CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT? REALLY?
tkhayes replied to quade's topic in The Bonfire
what did you expect? 10000 constitutional amendments proposed to date, but only 21 adopted. It is a waste of tax dollars and time, but this argument will probably be won over time, just like women's rights, black rights, voting rights, etc Need more judges to defy the higher-ups - and more civil disobedience to make things change. But for what it's worth, write your congress people, senators and president. It certainly will not hurt. TK -

I beg to differ. If the president said "I am going to downtown Tampa to have an ice cream..." Then they would make that happen. I totally believe that he does not understand the impact of his security to the average joe on the street, but he certainly has the capacity to make the changes if he chose to do so. He is not under some 'massive security screen' that he cannot change himself - he is the President and he can do anything he wants. Reminds me of a story when the Rolling Stones were in Toronto. We thought it would be cool to get them to jump. A friend put me in touch with the manager of their tour. I said "No way 'they' would let Mick Jagger jump when he is on tour". His reply was "If Mick Jagger decides to jump, then he will jump." BTW they never did Problem with most politian is that they are out of touch with the average man who voted them in. George Bush I expect does not know what the price of gas is. Does not know that many kids get substandard education. Does not know that lots of kids in Mississippi still go barefoot. Does not know what the price of a quart of milk is. Does not know that his security costs and impact is probably in the neighborhood of millions of dollars per day.

Chest strap save on load, How common is this?
tkhayes replied to skydonkey's topic in Safety and Training
we see it all the time in Z-Hills - just from sheer numbers of jumpers. pointed it out someone the other day (on the ground) I try to teach my students - 3 buckles, 3 handles - simple gear check for yourself, before you jump TK -
our locals usually charge $45-$55 for an airport run, call the DZ with your flight info and we can set it up TK

Areeas of Florida skydiving (and General Aviation) have been shut down for part of today and tomorrow. An FAA NOTAM issued on the 12th says the President is coming to visit Daytona and Tampa. Oddly enough, he is supposed to be talking about the economy in Tampa, but pretty much all aviation traffic (GA especially) has been closed withint a 30NM radius of the Tampa area. I think this is ridiculous, paranoid and practically delusional. How do we fix it? Email the president please, and tell him that GA businesses rely on airspace to make a living. GA did NOT cause any terrorist actions and to shut us down while allowing commercial passenger aviation is unfair and discriminatory. If the president himself is going to be the cause of businesses losing money, then maybe he should stay home and watch Daytona on TV. Please email your govenors, congressmen, state reps and others in government. They shut us down completely for 9 days during 9/11, and have demonstarted that they can and will do it again. Only way to see real change is to be heard in large numbers. I am sending my emails as we speak House of Representatives by state: http://www.house.gov/house/MemberWWW_by_State.html E-Mail President George W. Bush: president@whitehouse.gov Vice President Richard Cheney: vice.president@whitehouse.gov Also Florida Representatives: http://www.myfloridahouse.com/legislators.aspx thanks folks TK Hayes Skydive City/Z-Hills

Yep, 2 weeks ago, we had 35-40 people. Today, due to last minute cancellations, we have 14-18 people, even some of those are still maybes. hmmm, anyway, Dave Ruckert and I decided to scrub the event altogether. Seems the timing, Thailand, peoples lack of commitment has made this a non-event. Event though everyone seemed to be interested, we had trouble getting people to actually commit the time and money when it came right down to it. So this weekend, Dave and Boxman will be here as there are people traveling to the event anyway, and we have organized loads, color coordinated dives, Dave has some very cool shirts made up, and we expect to have a much smaller and closer-in event. Norman Kent will still be here, and hopefully we can have some formation loads throughout the weekend and into next week. We apologize for the cancellation, I but from our end, it is difficult to get people to send in their $$ and really commit to this. I expect it will be on track for next year. Stay in touch with us if you are interested (I mean REALLY interested) tk@skydivecity.com or Dave Ruckert ruckert@ozemail.com.au TK Hayes Skydive City

Christmas Boogie at Z-Hills wrapping up
tkhayes replied to tkhayes's topic in Events & Places to Jump
N/A -
Great week and thanks to everyone that showe dup. as of yesterday, we were over 7000 jumps for the boogie, more than 500 people came through the dropzone. The weather has been nothing short of near perfect. But mostly thanks to our customers for coming out and hope everyone had a great time, I am tired, taking a couple days off.... TK

a single lawsuit could wipe out that warchest in no time the lawyers and the costs. I seem to remember Ted Strong spending 300K to defend Strong in a tandem lawsuit where in the end his company was only found partially liable in the suit. risky business - that is why we have insurance companies. No insurance at all may be the option, but I am not willing to risk my personal savings, home, and everything else over a demo jump. TK
-
not sure what you mean by USPA working on a solution..... they are not an insurance company and I doubt we are large enough an organization to self-insure, so we are a the mercy of the insurance industry. Good luck at lobbying like the ski industry does - they have money and lobbyists, We have Ed Scott - who by the way does a great job, but I sincerely doubt it is enough. Jesus i cannot even get local and state authorities to helpo look at hot-fuelling...... TK

stop blaming uSPA, all they can do is shop for the best insurance they can get for the $$$. stupid idoits that cause demo accidents are making the insurance industry raise rates, not USPA. I do not agree with average joe member having to subsidize demo insurance either. The customer (spectator) needs to pay for the costs and if we are being priced out of business, then get all the demo jumpers together and go to Washington. The insurance needs to change, not USPA. The tort laws in this country need to change, not USPA. How about writing your state reps and congressmen/women and telling them that. As far as hold harmless agreements go, I would not risk my ass on one. spectators and 'victims' of demo accidents may not even be part of the event, unaware that such an agreement even exists, and therefore not really bound into the agreement. If you injure or hurt someone, chances are that you DID ACTUALLY FUCK UP (negligence). THat makes you liable, insurance or not. As well, you are assuming that the event host actually has any money to pay for your costs. Afterall you are really saying that they will cover your ass in the event of an accident. So now you have to look into their financials and insurance to see if they could even defend you. Agreement or not, you would end up suing them, since they will probably not 'defend' you in any way should you be the cause of any sort of accident. sounds like too much work for a silly demo. When customers call me, I say $3000 for a 4 person demo within 50 miles of our location. Sometimes they balk, sometimes they don't. I look at the ones that don't balk. Demos are a lot of work and I want to be insured so I do not have to worry about it. No different than when a customer calls and wants a tandem jump. I say $169 - sometimes they balk and sometimes they don't. It is now the cost of doing business. Do we do uninsured demos? Sometimes for good community relations, yes. I choose the locations wisely, large areas, not small ones. only the best jumpers, not any schmuck who thinks they can do it. Fly different parachutes, not radical ones. Jump-fly-land-that is all the customer really want to see. write congress and get some changes to the laws in this country that allow/encourage lawyers to share settlements and allow them to advertise on daytime television, feeding the frenzy that nothing in the world is ever your fault and you "get the money you DESERVE" for you pain and suffering......
