  1. Reading over a load of posts, for some time now i have noticed that upon having a mal, it is normal to buy beer for people. But what does this entail? Do you just buy 1 drink for the rigger, or a whole case. Or do other people qualify for booze as well in other situations? And is it always beer, or can it also entail other beverages?
  2. Yer, apperntly an alcohol based foam is supposed to be quite bad (so the ones you get out of a can) so a soap and a brush may help. Oh, and i used to get really bad burn, few tips i know: Never shave against the grain, it gives you rash like i don't know, and yer, i always shave after a shower with a sharp razo (the mach 3 works good for me, but you have to replace the blade weekly at a min.) If wet shaving still isn't for you, i undertand braun do good ones, but this is only from recomendation, i don't know for myself.
  3. I have chips in my right now. It was a lovly meal, with fish on the side...
  4. Wow, i always thought scrubs were 100% cotton, but i just checked out, and yep, looks like i'm in trouble somewhere... No really, i think this site is a bit of a mistranslation of what was meant by a verse me thinks.

So do you personally like it then?
  7. I know that before thinking of starting to skydive i looked at a load of statistics on the sport. I understand these to be reasonably accurate Chance of death skydiving per skydive= 1/100 000 (i don't believe this includes tandems). So if you jump 100 jumps, that is some 1/1000 chance The chances of being killed in a car journey if you travel 12000 miles per year (a typical person) is 1/5000. If you ride a Motorbike this distance than there is some 1/150 chance that you are gonna die. And in terms of distance travelled, riding a push bike is many many times more dangerous than this still. All of a sudden, skydiving doesn't appear that dangerous does it.... I find it strange how when i spoke to some friends about wanting to start up skydiving they said how nuts i was, yet i don't think that they would think an obese person to be living dangerously, and they smoke!! Other than thinking a motercyclist is a little risky, they wouldn't think he was 'living on the edge' like there is some steriotype about skydivers. Statistics can be made to say alot of things, for instance, if one is to take the number of hours spent participating in a given activity, skydiving shoots off the scale, but come on, if you have spent 36 hous in freefall you have been in the sport quite some time, but someone could easily do this in a month driving a car!! Skydiving isn't safe, but it is not stupid either, i think you just have to weigh up the risks with the rewards, only problem is, wuffos don't know the rewards, otherwise there would be alot more skydivers about methinks

    Math Help!

Number of possible arragement is 5! You will find the (! stands for factorial) button on any scientific calculator. Basically if you have 3 letters, say A, B and C they can be arranged in 3! ways. That is 3x2x1 ways. To prove it: ABC ACB BCA BAC CAB CBA i.e 6 ways. (3x2x1=6) i.e 6! I think this was the question. Therefore how many ways can you order 5 objects=5!. Therefore 5x4x3x2x1=120 ways!
  15. Does this £823 include flights, accomodation, transfers and some extra spending money you are bound to spend ? And some DZ charge an exchange rate or credit card charge Oh, and the £1200+350 comes to 1550 + 1200=2750, oh crap, wait, i did my maths wrong, i meant the cheapest you can do it for is £2700. WOOPS! Yer, that would be doing AFF+consolidation jumps in spain and would be all inclusive and a little bit extra incase of some hicups/extra spending money...
  16. Hey honeyjigga. I am in somewhat of a similar situation to yourself in that i hope to do my AFF sometime this quarter and in the long term would be looking into perhaps getting into base. Basically i did a tandem and since then learning has never stopped being on my mind, and must have filled my computers hardrive with countless videos. Although i don't have much money, i have crunched a few numbers and have come up with the following. The cost to learn should be no more than £2000 (this includes your 10 consolidation jumps) and could be as little as £1500 if i don't have to take retake any levels. After that i hope to spend around £1200 on a second hand rig, and then i'm jumping baby!! You can buy jumps in packs of 10 for a discount, i think the current is £180 for 10, but that may increase slightly due to increases in fuel costs. So i think i could get in 10 jumps a week (until i go to uni, at which point i will be poor, so only jump a fraction of this, but even so...) However i figure skydiving is fun in itself, REALLY good fun, so don't see it as 'doing jumps for the sake of getting into basejumping'. Perhaps when i get to 400 odd jumps (i don't want to basejump at 200, coz i figure i have one chance, i better be bloody good at the basics first) i may pick up basejumping or i may not, same with birdman, perhaps skydiving will be enough for me, maybe not, in which case i can cross that hurdle when it comes. Anyway, i'm waffeling, basically expect to pay some £3200 to get yourself off the ground (no pun intended), and i reakon take it from there. I think in terms of jumps, you can spend as much or as little as you much. Keep in mind this is a MINIMUM and you will probably have to upgrade your rig within 200 jumps anyway.
  17. Just out of interest, in the UK, the typical tandem is about £220 (about $390). If the instructor is only making about $35 (£20) does that mean the DZ is getting like £200? If this is the case, does the DZ make loads of money, or am i missing something here...
  18. wow, i din't know about the falcons and the royal marine guys! What are they like compared to you average civy street skydiver?
  19. Actaully the brits have a free fall team called the red devils who also have links with civy street, so i cannot see why the army is against FF, appears a bit odd to me...
  20. Couldn't see a better way of putting it, well said!
  21. Sure, Russia took heaps of crap. Hitlers (crazy) descission to fight a war on 2 fronts really screwed him over quite severly. Russia took some estimated 30 million killed or wounded soldiers, and about 20 million civilian deaths (this is not including the 40 million Starlin killed of his own people beofore the war started, setting up russia as a super power, without which they probably couldn't have stood up to the Germans). However to say that the US came close to this level of involvement is a little far fetched. With just 600, 000 military deaths/wounded and basically no civilian casualties they lost fewer men than the UK (700,000 + 50,000 civies) who also had colonial armies from their empire that came in pretty handy. However the UK did need the help at the time that the US came in, as before, they were doing little more than defending their own boarders (time of the battle of Bitain, the were doing really quite well it, this should be said, but not in the best position to mount sure fired offensives). And had they not, Hitler may have developed the atom bomb before anyone in the world (and yes probably before the US coz the US put more money into their bomb project having started the war not before and also got some handy work from german scientists) and then i could well be sitting here wearing a red armband, and i'm not in a swimming pool incase you ask. I think this is reasonably accurate... So thankyou america!!
  22. I know!!! I just spouted a load of blurb, it wasn't aimed at anyone!
  23. Sorry beowulf, this was not an attack at you personally by any means, it was just a general comment, as for tangible proof? I guess that is all in your interpretation of the word 'tangible'
  24. The 'jesus doesn't exist at all' statement is a little far fetched. Whilst i admit that it takes a certain step of faith to accept Jesus as God, the actual existance of Jesus himself is not a hotly debated theological issue. Indeed, even famous atheists such as Strauss and Nietzsche believed Jesus existed as a person simply did not believe in God. Put it this way. Even ignoring roman historians (somehow a typical atheist would choose to hold this person in higher regard to a gospel writer for some reason) saying Jesus never existed is the same as saying 'mohammed never existed' or 'buda never existed' yet there is more evidance for the exitance of Jesus.
