Well, top, it seems that some people think that S&TA's are safety and training advisors. Apparently there is not a lot of real ones out here. Having a title and doing the job are two different things. Having a title and being allowed to do your job are two different things. That was why I gave him several different people to approach. top Jump more, post less!

Why not ask the S&TA at the DZ, the DZO or DZM, or the Regional Director? If the TI's are truly doing something wrong, then those ultimately are the opinions that matter. top Jump more, post less!

Hmmmmm..... I would live to see that analysis! A few thoughts cross my mind: 1. Not all injuries are the same.... Does a 56 year old with a fractured wrist count the same as a 26 year old with a fractured femur and pelvis? 2. My informal observation is that the older jumpers are LESS likely to be injured. This may be due to more conservative canopy choices and flight. 3. I would love to know when their data was collected... It is entirely possible that older jumpers of a different era might have been more fragile than the current crop of 50-60 year-olds who may have had better health and more active lives. More than likely, bssed on statistics from the 70's! Maybe we can get USPA HQ to throw out some stats fro us. top Jump more, post less!

That is accurate. Cheaper than that if you buy a block of 50. top Jump more, post less!

QuoteYou crazy kids use such wacky language. OK, what's a TLDR? Quote TLDR= too long, didn't read! Usually, you can scoop out the abscess when the tooth comes out. The real question with a full on abscess is if the local anesthetic will work sufficiently. Of course, I am on the right side of the instruments to not be too concerned! top Jump more, post less!

An abscess is an infection in the body. Abscessed teeth are especially difficult because there is very little room for swelling. Unlike an infection say in your arm where your arm swells up, the one in your tooth is confined to a narrow space in the tooth, then into the confined space of the bone. That confinement causes the pressure to build up as by-products of the infection increase (pus) and that is what causes the intense pain. Once the infection is opened and drained, relief is almost immediate. Pressure changes (going up and down in the plane) can cause greater swelling, build up of pressure, and more pain. Very similar to a sinus infection, only decongestants don't help! A "dry socket" is when the bone itself is exposed to the environment after an extraction without gum tissue or a blood clot to protect it. This allows bacteria to infiltrate the bone and cause a neat little infection. Often times, patients see a white coating in the socket and work to rinse that out not knowing that clotted blood appears white when soaked (think about the times you have been swimming with a scab, it is white when you get out). Hope this isn't TLDR. top Jump more, post less!

My rigger replaced my leg straps..how do i know she did it right?
topdocker replied to CharlesFin's topic in Gear and Rigging
Of course, that begs the question of who inspects the second rigger's inspection. An attorney? top Jump more, post less! -
Well, it's good you weighed-in when you did. I was gonna tell him about the risk of his lower jaw exploding from the, uh, magnetic pressure gradient. That is still a possibility! We just like to keep that one quiet...... top Jump more, post less!

How do you decide which advice to listen to?
topdocker replied to skybytch's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Just printed that to hand to lowtimers who just don't get being talked to by a Regional Director about how dangerous their decision may be. thanks! top Jump more, post less! -
Sounds to me like you are better off with the tooth out than with it in. That being said, anything you do to disturb the bloodclot that is sealing the bone from the environment could be detrimental. While jumping per se may not be bad, the added exertion, moving around, etc could increase the chance of dislodging the bloodclot and lead to an infection in that area. If you are reasonably healthy and the extraction went easily without sutures and lots of effort, then more than likely things will be fine. I usually tell patients to take a few days easy and continue the ibuprofen and icepacks. Don't smoke! Also, advice on the internet about your specific health question is like having an AAD and not turning it on... you feel better about having it, but it really isn't providing a service. top (23 years as a practicing dentist, 25 as a jumper) Jump more, post less!

Where is the "Like" button? Is it parked by the swoop pond? top Jump more, post less! -
Can you define "swoop" for this context? Is it at least a 720 over a pond with an RDS and a canopy loaded 2.5:1 or are you talking about a 90 front riser turn and planing out in rear risers on a triathalon? top Jump more, post less!

Weird behaviour after installing new lines on a Safire 2 169 sqft
topdocker replied to Twinflower's topic in Gear and Rigging
Also check that the right lines go to the right attachment point of the canopy. We got a canopy back and two of the AB lines we switched. Behaved okay in flight, but awful when you pulled the front risers. Also, the flare became a little weird. top Jump more, post less! -

This is a commercial for a jewelry company. I would rather have the RAM or a power tool than a useless sparkly piece of glass-like substance. Our first Valentine's Day, I bought my wife a chainsaw! She didn't even use it on me, she just called her mom to brag about it. top Jump more, post less!
