  2. You must have led a sheltered existence. john, honest questions: do you think then, based on your post, that unnatural things happen? how do you define unnatural? I miss Lee. And JP. And Chris. And...
  3. Oh of course, but they usually come to their senses. But what if liberal children rebel against their parents? Do they become conservatives? Apparently you never watched Family Ties. ah, but I did... the connection never hit me until now... sheesh, girl, you're like a straight rosie o'donnell or something w/ the old tv references. 6. That's easy: 1. I don't START threads about my religious beliefs. 3. This is SC and participation is optional. If anyone chooses to start a thread on some topic, they shouldn't whine that they're being "picked on" when others disagree with them. Saying you don't whine is like saying the Pope isn't Catholic, John. ) The Pope's Catholic? I thought he was a Nazi. Don't fool yourself for a moment that your comment even begins to get under my skin, John. It's long been known that Pope Benedict's service in the Hitler Youth, as Joseph Ratzinger was compulsory in the early 1940's. Also, he was conscripted into the Nazi Army in 1943 and defected in 1945, risking his own life. http://bc.edu/research/cjl/meta-elements/texts/cjrelations/topics/new_pope_defied_nazis.htm In 1999, When he was still Cardinal Ratzinger, my wife and I were honored to be able to spend some time w/ him. 10. I was raised catholic. I believe in God. It not just the non-christians she is irratating with these preachy posts. I work with a guy who claims to be this hard core christian, yet he is the most intolerate, ignorant person I have ever met. He gets all preachy and because we didn't know where some church was he called us all heathens, not to mention his bizarro views about catholics. Now that's why I get embarrased when people act as such, being a christian and claiming its in the name of God or JC. Being preachy can be construed as being intolerant of others beliefs, which is why I believe to keep my religious beliefs between me and God. I respect all good people regardless if they believe in God, Allah, or nothing at all. Whether or not she intended it to be this way, some of her reglious post have a tone of my religion is better than yours. j Thank you. And Micro..........just simma down now... don't you have some community service to do? love ya baby.

If anyone chooses to start a thread on some topic, they shouldn't whine that they're being "picked on" when others disagree with them. Saying you don't whine is like saying the Pope isn't Catholic, John. Read again more carefully, without omitting any words: 2. I don't whine that I'm being "picked on" due to my religious beliefs. Gee John, that's not really much of a claim, since you don't have any religious beliefs (you're still a kind-sized whiner though) I miss Lee. And JP. And Chris. And...

I respect all good people regardless if they believe in God, Allah, or nothing at all j Judy, I agree that preachy people can be a pain in the ass. However, I think what actually constitutes preaching in the eyes of those who are so annoyed, in reality, bears no resemblance whatsoever to any effort on the part of some Christians to actually proselytize. For example, I often engage in religious debates here, but I don't ever intend to come off as preachy. On the other hand, I have every intention to elaborate and defend the beliefs of my faith. If that SOUNDS preachy to others, there are two options as I see it: 1) I can be asked to change the tone so I don't come off like such a dork or 2) those offended may need to ask themselves why the topic of religion (often SPECIFIC religions) offends them so much. Windcatcher's initial post is a good case-in-point and I invite you to re-read said post w/ this question in mind: Who was her intended audience? Also, by her own admission later in the thread, this discussion was started in SC not to start a debate, but b/c she thought an undiscerning greenine would automatically place it in SC b/c it deals w/ religion. So, damned if she does, damned if she doesn't, so to speak. I miss Lee. And JP. And Chris. And...
  14. You can get a match AR-15 for about $1,000 these days. You get what you pay for. The Mini-14 is fine, but I would think it's not much good for accuracy beyond 100 or 200 yards. That's my impression of them, from watching people shoot them at the public range, and their absence from serious target competition. you're probably right about the lack of longer range of accuracy, and having 16 acres of land to take care of. From our house to the back of the property, we've got about 2000-3000 feet of distance, 666-1000 yards. I can see the need for a much more accurate, longer distance rifle. I miss Lee. And JP. 15. actually, you will see a bell curve, a normative distribution for intelligence for the 100 CEs and 100 bricklayers you spoke of. again, intelligence, like heighth, is naturally distributed that way, even among homogenious groups such as in your example. Now, the group of 100 CEs or 100 bricklayers will not be as widely dispersed (i.e. the standard deviation will be smaller), but you'll still get a bell shaped curve. Both will yield a bell-shaped curve, but they will not share the same horizontal location on your graph. i wasn't claiming they would. re-read my post... w/i their homogeneous group, intelligence will be, as you've acknowledged, distributed normatively. if you want to use compare the intelligence of such disperate careers, you're essentially comparing apples to oranges. Agreed. My error. But what is the point of pointing out that within a homogenous group there will be a bell curve. That's not interesting at all. What's interesting is the distinctions between groups, and most importantly finding out the reasons for the difference. Don't ask me why it is important, it is too late in the day for that. Must go now. Good thread. Thanx. don b - dispensing wisdom wherever the truth, and tasteless topics, are not suppressed. x Oh, I certainly agree that it's far more interesting to try and discern why there are diffs b/t groups... however, the pt in this pedestrian excercise was just to show that the general intelligence of Christians is roughly similar to the general population and not skewed to the low end, nor is it a bi-modal distribution, etc. tis all.
  16. Last time I looked you do not need a license to slew venomous garbage in Speakers Corner. In fact, to complain about lack of decorum here is humorous in itself. For Christ's sake, it seems in some threads half the posts start out with "What the fuck?" I would think all the sensitive people have already gone elsewhere. Well pardon me for thinking it a worthy cause to expect people to actually at human. I'll try to remember to not waste any energy encouraging people like yourself to make this place any less rancorous. I do not believe myself to be rancorous. I'm just very direct and honest. I usually keep it very objective and almost never call people bad names. I'm just saying that my experience here is that to expect whatever it is you expect is probably not realistic. I've never been called rancorous before. THAT'S BEER! What's your pleasure, I'd be happy to spring for it!
  17. and another thing john, why should she... keep your religion to yourself. *** when others, like yourself, don't keep their "religion" of godlessness, unifying philosophy, liberal ideologies, etc. ad nauseum to yourselves? your rhetoric is just a subterfuge for people like youself who attack people of faith, particularly Christians, and especially Catholics. I miss Lee. And JP. And Chris. And...
  18. Thanks for proving Windcatcher's point, Brandy. Whining that people pick on you, because you persist in getting in their face with your religion, is unreasonable. The cure for being picked on is in your hands - keep your religion to yourself. Getting pregnant as a result of getting laid happens to heathens too. It is NOT a sign of "God"'s goodness. All responses like this prove is that a good portion of you are cruel. Anyone who shares their religion w/ others, even in an attempt to share it w/ other like-minded people, automatically gets branded as a proselytizer. And where you see WC as whining, others see her as having a legitimate complaint against non-Christians. It's a matter of perspective. And God is still present and very good, even when conception occurs b/t heathens. I miss Lee. And JP. And Chris. And...
  19. Thanks for proving Windcatcher's point, Brandy. How does that prove a point. Which point? j By judging her posts as "stupid preachy crap" that "irritates people" when that was NOT the intent of the thread. I miss Lee. And JP. And Chris. And...

  21. I'm glad you said this... I didn't much feel like elongating my posts further by explaining that the actual mean for different groups on intelligents varies, since this would be misinterpreted by some here to as proof that what I'm saying is wrong. While intelligence DOES vary from group to group, it is a very neglible variance. However, what some here would likely hear the groups are different. I miss Lee. And JP. And Chris. And...

  23. I spent a year in Berkeley, never asked for a government hand-out, pay plenty of taxes, and contributed 4 children to the pool of young liberals Yeah, but you're really OLD and will be pushing up daisies before the next generation, the plethora, of new conservatives overwhelmes the paucity of liberals.
