It is below 20 degrees outside, and most of the jumpers around are rather experienced. They've all had their share of 2am ladder climbs, in 0 degrees with snow blowing. So no flaming there. Nathan

I haven't read any of the replies here, but try going into your "pull position" at terminal. Hold it for a few seconds. If you're turning, you're throwing your body position off somehow. If you start spinning, try and fix it. Try to pin point what it is (arms, legs, shoulders, etc). As stated above, when students go to pull, sometimes they just go for it, and yank it out (or throw it). Chilling out in your "pull position" for a while might help. After you do that, do some practice pulls. Do them slow though. I'm not an instructor, or anyone with any experience. This is just what I would do. Nathan Nathan

How do I get over being afraid to jump my own pack job?

Man. I'm not trying to be a dick.. but just go jump it. As long as it's hooked up properly, and you have a basic knowledge on packing (setting the brakes, bringing the slider up, stowing the lines and routing the bridle), it's going to open (might not be super soft or on heading .. but hey .. any opening feels good to me- the rest come with practice). You said you've had experienced people watch you pack. They wouldn't sit there and watch you pack a total mal. I haven't read all the posts in this thread, but as someone suggested, just have someone observe you packing again. If they clear it.. go jump it. Once you jump it, it will give you a lot of faith in yourself. Once you get comfortable with that, and get some jumps, try disconnecting the main entirely, reconnecting it, then jumping it. i've never travelled (in a plane) with BASE gear - but if I were taking a trip to jump, I'd carry it on. I've had too many friends/family members have their bags misplaced or temp. lost, and they don't get them back for a week or so. I'd rather have no clothes, and my rig for a week, than clothes, and no rig :P. Nathan

yeah, i get them on occasion. i love the ones where i jump off a tower with no rig, slam in, and walk away. ... or hop out of a plane, not pull, and get up without a scratch! Nathan

i started memorial day weekend.. around 55-60 BASE jumps, maybe 10-15 skydives :|. dont' get me wrong, i like skydiving. it still is fun, and i'm not bored of it at all. i'm just poor, and cheap. on occasion i'll head out and do one here and there, but not the 6-10/weekend i was doing before BASE.
