  1. $1700/month, plus room and board and..... dicounted skydives []DETE
  2. It could be the pilot blowing you off with too much power on during climb out. It is worth mentioning. I know when I first started flying students as a jump pilot it was one of the first things the jump masters complained about. []DETE
  3. I did my first tandem at 16, and had a hell of a time. Go for it. Find a place which will take you with parental consent. If you have your driving licence, take a drive to your local dropzone and check things out. Talk to some skydivers, take a look at gear, show up with a list of questions, and people would be reluctant not to help you. Bottom line is make sure you do some research before consulting your rents about it. Definitely save your cash!!Most parents will not be to content in dropping a few hundred bucks on a thrill ride. Most likely they will think skydiving is crazy so prove them wrong. I did my first solo (flying) at 15. I don't see why an 18 year old can't do a skydive especially a tandem. 21 being the drinking age in the US is just ludicrous. Numbers are for legal mumbo-jumbo. What ever happened to common sense? 4. 150 pound person wiht a 20 pound weight will fall faster than with out the weight. Terminal Velocity is when the falling object is in a state of equilibrium. Meaning it is not accelerating in any dircetion. So when a 150 pounder reach TV his weight equals the force of drag imposed on his body by wind resistance. A 150 pounder with a 20 pound weight (same body shape) will fall faster, because extra drag is needed to put him in a state of equilibrium. i.e. the faster an object moves through the air, the more drag from wind resistance pushes back. I hope this helped []DETE
  5. this gave me a good laugh enjoy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BjfbS_Kj-J0 []DETE
  6. Why are we getting 5 inches of snow right now, when 5 days ago it was 12 degrees celcius out, and I was playing ball hockey in a t shirt? []DETE
  7. Just thought of maybe having a kegger in our back yard. I made about 250 bucks last time, only b/c I charged everyone at the door, even if they weren't drinking. But this time of year students are broke and not up for much. []DETE
  8. I did that last summer. But no can do where I'm at right now. Closest dz would be about 500km. []DETE
  9. I can't my schd is really messed. I'm in a flight program right now, so I have to be available to be scheduled to fly 7 days a week. The only thing I can really do is deliver pizza. But it will take a toll on my car. I might just do that though after I finish my up coming flight test. []DETE
  10. I'm finishing school this may, and starting work, but i would like to buy a rig asap for this season! so far ... I'm selling my car.( cleaned it up nicely) I don't drink much anymore. I haven't bought new cloths in a while. No dates unless the girl's covering I bought a travel mug for coffee, and brew at home now. Oh yes and my roommates and I stole a giant roll of toilet paper from the college bahahah, it should last a while. []DETE
  11. I did a lot of canopy packing over the summer, and I find it hard to believe that rolling the nose can really slow the opening down a considerable amount. I take my time packing and try to pack the same every time, but for the most part the openings would vary. Hard opening, soft, snivel , 90 degree turn etc. It just seems openings are very chaotic, with a lot of changing variables. A big one being body position. One thing I've heard is to make sure the slider is all the way to the stops or else you can give someone a pretty fast opening. Also unstowed breaks will produce a pretty hard opening, learned that the hard way. Well most of the packing I did were student rigs, plus the odd stiletto and hornet. I'm sure high loaded HP canopy behave differently during opening so maybe rolling the nose is key. []DETE
  12. I wouldn't be surprised, its a ruthless industry, and not one to make money in. []DETE
  13. During one of my solo jumps I remember looking down the jump run in free fall and seeing the 2way which exited before me. All I could make out were two tiny black dots. As they fell relatively close to a giant towering cumulus cloud it maybe me feel so insignificant. It made the sky feel so huge. After they disappeared through a cloud, I went along with my business of tracking for a hole and soon after opened. One of my most memorable solo jumps. []DETE
  14. You might want to keep in mind that winds tend to veer(clockwise change in direction) and increase with increase in altitude. Pressure changes as well as the Coiorlis force (caused by the earths rotation) affect the movement of air. The wind close to the ground is slowed by friction. When the wind is slowed by friction such as trees etc. the coriolis force is less because it is directly related with the wind speed. The pressure change force takes over, and the wind will want to blow from high to low. Since air rotates around a high pressure system clockwise, it will deflect to the left to the lesser pressure area. Vise versa with a low. Also be careful with inversions. Temperature increase with altitude. One type of inversion usually happens during sunset and at night time. The ground begins to cool a lot faster than the air above it. Resulting in really light winds on the ground and fast winds aloft. So. If doing a sunset load on a clear evening, the upper level winds can be a lot stronger and coming from a different directions than the ground winds. It's always a good idea to ask the pilot what the upper level winds are up to. []DETE
  15. check out http://www.diverdriver.com/ There is some really good information there about flying skydivers. and http://www.pilotinterviews.com/ I m sure you know about that website. also go to the dropzone section on this website and check out some dropzones near you. good luck []DETE
  16. Wow... Glad everyone came out ok. Keep in mind that smokers have a higher physiological altitude. i.e. 12 500' may feel to them as being at 15 000' compared to a non smoker. []DETE
  17. I paid about 20 euros for a beer at a strip club in Paris once. Only ever did stay for the one drink... []DETE
  18. Flying a canopy is a lot like flying a airplane that glides like a crowbar. That is all. []DETE

  21. highschool suspened for running in the hall. The principal saw me and told me to stop, but i thought it would be funny to continue running, he chased me and i made it out of the school. I had a good laugh, but the next day he showed up in my class after identifying me with the year book. damn another time grade school a few of my friends and i tossed giant snow balls at a passing school bus which calapsed the front windshield. 22. Regulations are set in place to prevent the same accidents happening over and over again. The way i see it..... is when someone is jumping in a controlled enviroment, such as a DZ there has to be rules/regs. They are guidlines to make it a safe"er" place for everyone, whether it is a newb or experienced jumper. I dont think its a good idea to letting people downsize as they please, because they do not understand their own capibilities as well as what the canopy can do. If some newb really badly wants to fly a sub hundred canopy he can do it in his own back yard where he doesnt put others at risk. btw this post not directed to anyone in particular, just soem thoughts i had.....
