Are you pro-life and support oral contraceptives?
Vallerina replied to Vallerina's topic in Speakers Corner
Is it a human being when a sperm and egg combine? Do you yell at women for taking birth control. This is what the thread is about. I don't care if you're pro-life/choice. Just stay on topic. This thread is about how oral contraceptive can be an abortive and how that fits into a pro-lifers view. I did not start a thread for pro-lifers to spread their word. I started a thread to see how people who are against abortion justify supporting their own sperm or egg being combined with the opposite gender's and knowingly ridding the woman's body of it. Suppose Abortion becomes illegal..what then?
Vallerina replied to Bodyflight.Net's topic in Speakers Corner
No, there is a 99% chance that a woman won't get pregnant if she takes her birth control pill perfectly. There is a 92% chance that a woman won't get pregnant with "typical" use. I have not seen the percentages of ovulation with typical/perfect use. There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning -

Ummm...what's this have to do with the topic...unless you're saying that bc pills are barbaric? There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning -

And for when the first two methods of birth control pills fail. (not saying that's wrong...but you forgot to add that!) There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning -

What about bc like Depo? It makes sure that you have no build up on your uterus wall so that fertilized eggs never have a chance to implant themselves. Woman may continually be getting rid of fertilized eggs even after they discontinue use. There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning -

No, but it is a function. I'm just curious as to what the difference between getting rid of a fertilized egg one way is different than doing it in another way. Tom made a good point.... There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning -

People were talking about how birth control pills are abortives???? Adding on...plus, I'm curious to see how pro-lifers view oral contraceptives. I doubt you'll find any pro-choice people against them. There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning -

Maybe...actually, I'm glad that most do support oral contraceptives, but it just seems odd to me. To each their own.... There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning -
Yup! I watch it with my nephew a lot. He loves it! he starts shouting out the names of the birds while he's watching. There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning

I just like to try to simplify things! I can understand that. Preventing pregnancy with a barrier method or killing sperm seems to show that most are absolutists (very few are.) But, to say that you should not rid a conceived egg from a woman's body on purpose but using the pill...that just seems to go against what they're saying. I may have had a miscarriage due to Depo. I knew that this could happen before taking it. Should that be illegal? There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning -

But, if you're against abortion and on the pill or are with someone on the pill, isn't that hypocritical? There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning -

Great point!!!! Planned Parenthood also helps women like my old roommate who had some weirdo problem ever since she was in 4th grade where she would bleed about 10 times the normal amount 3 weeks a month. The only thing that could help it was birth control pills. She was on birth control pills from Planned Parenthood (her insurance doesn't cover it) for years before having sex. Should someone that's going to Planned Parenthood for health reasons be hounded like that? I don't see many "pro-lifers" having sex without oral contraceptives, so many of them have, in fact, supported abortion being legal. There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning -

Unfortunately, I can't access the Planned Parenthood website, so this link that tells me what I've heard at Planned Parenthood numerous times will have to do. http://www.epm.org/articles/bcp5400.html Is it hypocritical to consider a fertilized egg a child which should not be removed from a woman's body except if it's by means of oral contraceptives? It's silly for anyone to want to outlaw birth control pills, but one of their ways to prevent pregnancy is by being an abortive. But, I am curious as to how many pro-lifers think that one form of abortion is okay and another is not. There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning -

Lucky you. I have to study. Yup. Same one. So far, yes, they are. Graduation was bittersweet. I waas proud of getting a degree, but I really didn't want to leave. Haha! That'd be fun! I have a few vague Ball State memories! That's the part that's depressing. I look into the future and see myself doing the same crap for insurance companies, taking vacations not because I have a strong desire to see something but because I have a strong desire to get the Hell away from work. I see myself being in a cool city like Chicago with so much stuff to do, but I'm too tired to do any of it. Tell me about it. I had a whopping three coworkers that I felt I shared any intererests at all with. Two of them left. Luckily, the one that is still there sits right next to me. He's the only reason that work is tolerable. He's cool as hell, though. I felt all alone with my bizarre line of thinking until I met him. There is another person on this planet that thinks almost just like me....the world should be frightened. There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning

Re: [Michele] JFTC ladies, please check in!

Okay, forgive me if this has already been suggested, but I am going to share your thoughts. I would like to see a calendar full of strong women not just skydiving (I haven't been in the sport long, but I have enough Parachutists and USPA calendars to keep me happy with skydiving pictures for awhile.) Trying to have it artistic to try to show a woman's inner beauty is awesome. I have loads of cellulite no matter how great of shape I'm in. My boobs are small, so a cleavage shot would be pretty difficult to get. I doubt any sort of artistic shot would focus in on either of those features, although it may focus in on it on someone else whose features are better. I digress. Anyways, I know you are doing a lot of work in this, but maybe there could be a compromise of sorts. You can artistically show women being strong by focusing in on something other than their bodies. My suggestion is to focus in on activities which make them strong and make that artistic. If one of the women loves soccer, too, get an artistic shot of her being goalie. If one of the women spends a lot of her time volunteering for Habitat for Humanity, get an artsy shot of her building a house. Just my small thought. So, I'm just sitting here late on a Saturday night thinking about what stuff used to be like for me. Sure, I was poor, and I had some really tough courses (I remember one where the top overall avg. for the class was a 40%.) I also had about 30 friends within a 5 min drive. I also had someone to hang out with no matter what time of day it was. I also didn't feel "stuck" in a job. I also had access to hundreds of different clubs in almost any activity you could think of. I felt that I was getting the most I could out of life. I've been out of college for two years, and is it really like this when you're out of school? Does it get better? I'm usually too tired to do much after work (including studying.) I work in Chicago, and there is so much stuff to do, but I never have time, so I miss out on a lot. It takes effort to see any of my friends, and they're not always available. Many of my good friends live all over the country now, so it's very difficult to see them. Sigh...youth really is wasted on the young! Is college really the best time of everyone's life? Do the post-college years get better once the cold reality that it will never be like that ever again wears off? There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning

I'm in complete agreement with that. I wouldn't want to lose my body first because it would make me depressed. I would hate not being able to do anything. But, some of my family's lives were disrupted by things like my uncle who "wasn't all there" being lost for a day since he was confused, and he thought he had to go to Michigan City. My great grandma couldn't walk for the last 10 years of her life. She couldn't do much but sit there. She was so depressed because she used to be such an active person, and it's not much fun to have to sit in your house all day long when it's nice out. My uncle had no clue as to what was going on the last few years of his life, but he laughed and smiled a lot (he always thought he was going to go on fancy trips like he used to do when he was young). But, because he may have signed legal documents in that state of mind, it causes problems for my family. There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning

Which do you think is worse? Would you rather lose your mind when you're older and be that crazy old person talking about how they're going on a spaceship, or would you rather lose motor functions and have to have someone else doing everything for you? I'd rather lose my mind first. I don't want to have someone else clean my bedpans, feed me, etc and be fully aware of what's going on. There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning

Yes, the more you know, the better protected you are. The more false information you "know," the more likely you are to have false securities etc. I just don't think you understand how the "information" you posted isn't really "information." If you wanted people to have information about it, a local rape awareness group has better credential than a chain email. I haven't been a volunteer for almost two years, so I wouldn't be a good one to consult, but I agree that if you are going to post information about rape you should consult someone before doing so (ie, a Crisis Center.) I'm not sure if you're sarcastic or not, but if you want to bring up a serious topic just to get people to think about it, either just bring it up or make sure you have your facts straight. It can be dangerous for women to have false ideas on how to protect themselves. And, because I'm repeating myself, that's about all for me! If you want people to be aware about something, don't post whatever you find on the internet without having something to back it up with. There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning

Okay....but that's where it gets dangerous...to start thinking like that. The chance of your hair being the deciding factor of whether or not you get raped is extremely small. Concentrating on such small factors like that means that the big picture is overlooked. Okay, I'll try to restate my point. If you are going to post information for people to think about and analyze, make sure it is correct, especially if it's something as serious as rape. Nobody should feel any more secure if they wear baggy t-shirt or shave their head bald. The fact is is that they are not safer because of it. Posting that the number one things rapists look for is hairstyle based on some "study" suggests that you will be significantly safer if you change your hair. Pretty much, I have no clue what you want people to get out of this. People already know rape exists. People were given false information on what rapists look for. They became "aware" of things that may make them more susceptible to rape...but those things aren't true...so, they may have a false sense of security instead.
