  1. Glass blowing is something I have wanted to do for years! My wife got the class for our anniversary. I am the type of person that likes to know how to do a little of everything. So this was a nice introduction, with a little hands on. The frame was custom made by me.(I cheated and bought the scrolls, as i didn't have the time to make them.) The paintings in it were done by my wife and I.
  2. I do either a surge or a 90, depends on circumstances. I don't consider the 90 I do to be "hook turn" it is more of a carve. I have tried what I would call a hook turn and I feel that a carve works better.

    Marmite

I know you can find it at World Market, not sure about regular grocery stores.
  4. You may be raising your hand now, but wait and think back on this when you have say 2000 jumps! Personally I usually try to pull around 4 grand(will vary due to situation). But even being a usually "high" puller I have been in the saddle as low as 1400ft. You will eventually lose track of time and altitude. It may be the day you audible battery dies or you forget it. Right now you may not be dependent on, but that may change. Hopefully I will be wrong and you will never lose altitude awareness and will always deploy when you plan to.
  5. I totally agree with you! I NEVER double stow, I have used all large, and all small bands as well as a combination of the two if needed. My thoughts have always been that free bags and stow-less bags don't have rubber bands holding the lines all nice and tight, so why is my standard main D-bag different?
  6. The article says it was an MC-6 which looks to be a "round" and not a T-11(square round)
  7. I'm about 250 lbs out the door. I will agree with most that I probably downsized to fast and don't suggest it to others. That being said. I have never had anybody say that I scared them or that they felt I was in a bad place. If anything quite the opposite. 1-10 Manta 290 @.87 11-16 Manta 260 @ .97 17-75 PD 230 @ 1.09 76-150 Silhouette 190 @1.32 151-170 Diablo 170 @ 1.47 171-250 Nitro 150 @ 1.67 251-375 Radical 135 @ 1.86 375-current Velo 111 @ 2.26 I have a handful of jumps on various other canopies, the smallest being an Onyx 95. I also jump large canopies for demos(and for fun). I regularly use either a falcon 265 and a startrek 290, I enjoy flying the large canopies just as much as the small ones. Canopy flight has always come naturally to me, freeflying on the other hand not so much.
  8. Note to self (as a fat boy), never fly commercial with twardo!
  9. There is/was an AAD just as you describe, I think it was called "Astra". The unit was mounted on the mud flap, and had a simple on/off switch that had a clear cover that slid up and down to protect the switch. I don't know why it wasn't or isn't popular. I have only ever seen one person with one, and that was when I first started jumping about 10 yrs ago.
  10. Skydive (North) Myrtle Beach is a towered airport, I have jumped there a fair amount. I'm sure it varies from airport to airport, but I found it to be an aggravation. The tower liked to put us on hold as we were coming on to jump run. The usual reason was either a plane was landing or about to take off. I've jumped at quit a few airports that were not towered and never have had a problem with planes landing or taking off while we are dropping.
  11. make it a three timer, she wants me too ;)
  12. My daughter's best friends brother died from this last year. http://www.rememberblake.com/ It happened very quickly. I think they went to the lake on Saturday, and he was dead by tues or wed.
  13. I've asked a few local DZO's about doing this and none seem to want to do it anymore. I have heard of places doing it, bu it doesn't seem to be a popular system anymore. I'm in the southeast.
  14. I'll agree that the galvinor packs easier than most other ZP material, but I have always felt that it packed bigger than the slick ZP. I could be wrong, definitely wouldn't be the first time
  15. I'm about 250 out the door. I have an all polycotton kurupee suit that slows me down nicely.
  16. I know this is an old(ish)thread but I saw this and thought I have to post it. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Espresso-Machine-Commercial-La-Pavoni-Bar-L3-Lever-AUTHENTIC-/121383571659?pt=BI_Hot_Beverage_Brewers&hash=item1c430650cb It's electric AND propane, so no need of electricity
  17. Don't know how true this is.....but, I heard they are currently doing some restructuring or some such and aren't doing any warranty or customer service stuff at the moment. I have no clue as to how long this supposed to last I have had good service from them in the past. Sent two pairs in to replace the lenses and they did both pairs for the price of one.
  18. Ever heard the expression "you don't know what you don't know"? You really should STFU until you actually learn to fly a canopy!
  19. That was the original plan. Then the DZO decided he wanted a container, so I made the one pictured the night before
