  1. Good for you...I have a hard time breaking the 6AM barrier for exercise, but if I could it would make my day a lot easier.
  2. I have found Cliff Bars work well for me. I eat half before I start and the rest after. Generally I do 20 mins of cardio and 3-4 weight exercises, total time about 40 minutes. They've got a many different flavors, too. Creatine doesn't sit well with me personally, tho my trainer loves it and other folks at my gym use it.
  3. I think the term "obsessive compulsive disorder" gets overused and applied to folks like its a bad thing. From my group of friends: 1) Loves words that come out balanced, like "MARKET BASKET" (MAR-KET BAS-KET). 2) Likes things in groups of threes...like three knocks on a door, or three sets of three knocks on a door. Never will this person knock three times twice. God forbid they knock an extra time after the three sets of three one...they would need to knock like 17 more times to make it three-sets-of-three-sets-of-three. 3) Spins a plate of food around and eat it from any direction other than the way it was served 4) Adds up large numbers into one single number...like 1445554 would be 28. Then uses the number 28 to remember the original number. 5) Collects "wee" things (like "homies"), then hides them in her apartment, forgets where they were hidden (for real, like a squirrel), then finds them years later and gets really "giddy" over finding them. 6) Will not own more than one gun of the same caliber. This is to avoid any semblance of "hording". This person now owns one each of: 12 guage, .45, 9mm, .380, 7.62X39, .22, 8mm (I think...its an authentic German Mauser) There are more, I'm sure. Fun people. I'll take them over someone without any quirks any day.
  4. Be careful with reporting items stolen...it could increase your incident count and could increase your rates over the next few years. Sometimes the amount of money isn't worth it.
  5. Heck, my instructor pulled for me on my first AFF-A. I couldn't figure out why she was pointing at me
  6. I don't think folks are bashing you...I'm not, fyi. We're just commenting on the website. Hell no! On a $500,000 home, thats a big chunk of money swaying one way or the other.
  7. As to having it wildly available: Property value and who owns that property is public information, since property value is used in determining tax rate. My town even has a dedicated computer kiosk where you can look up every bit of tax information about each home. All this website does is centralize that free data into a spiffy interface, which is useful. What something is worth is what people are willing to pay for it and I think only a local realtor is suited to know this information with any authority, as they have a handle on events that could change a particular value, such as if next year a particular house is going to have a fresh new sewage treatment plant as a neighbor. I'm also curious with how they'll deal with townships that intentionally value a home at less than market value. My town used to do only like 70% of the market value (yea!) and only recently moved it to 100% (anger!). Also, does a particular town do assessments yearly, or longer?
  8. I dunno. 'Skydiving with the Stars' might be interesting...I'd enjoy seeing someone like Ashlee Simpson losing her mind at the door
  9. Congrats! I'm hoping to finish my A this weekend
  10. Agreed...my friend's kid is as matter-of-fact about the scary lady as he is about his toy trains.
  11. That is seriously messed up. You are obviously in pain and hurt over this girl, but put that aside for a moment. Step back and look at this from a 3rd person view. That is not a sign of a mentally stable woman. Move on with your life. She's working on her agenda, you should get yours underway as well.
  12. I have a friend who's son and wife have seen ghosts in the 275 year old house they used to live in. His son called one the "scary" lady. Can you imagine being 4 years old and finding some "scary" lady in your room? The kid is a lot calmer now that they live in a 2-yo house which is "ghost-free". In the old house a woman had killed herself in the boy's bedroom.
  13. If you have multiple firsts on the same jump, one case will do For those of you at Zhills next weekend, I'm likely buying two cases between Feb 16 and 19...first jump of my own pack job, and getting my A license.
  14. I'm no ballistics or weapons expert, but I doubt the round will dislocate a shoulder...it weighs 33.3 lbs and has a bipod. While the slug is large, there is a lot of mass for it to move before it gets to begin rearranging your skeleton, even if you are not using the bipod. Slick rifle, tho.
  15. Welcome, I hope it goes great! Are you doing a tandem first? - No, but I was real nervous my second AFF jump. My first I was pretty numb and failed the jump through lack of alt awareness. My instructor pulled for me - You won't notice it like you would if you were in a car and accelerating. You'll feel the wind picking up though. Once you get up to terminal velocity you'll feel the air pushing on your body, like when you put your hand out the sunroof of a car. - Well...skydiving is a pretty f'd up sport when you think about it, so if you are up there and look down, you start thinking about what you are about to do, you know? I don't have a problem with lookng at the ground, but I don't like standing when the plane is turning...makes my stomach drop when there is turbulance. On my 3,500 foot hop-and-pop (requirement for your "A" license) the instructor had me sitting alongside to the open otter door while the plane made a banking turn at 2,000 feet. I could look straight down at the ground. Didn't like that much because I could see details you can't see at 13,500...like a person walking their dog, and some people looking up at us in the plane! If you are nervous tell your instructors. They expect it from us students and they won't think less of you, and they'll help you get at ease. Being relaxed is important. Make sure you let us know how it goes! (edited to correct spelling)
  16. Very nice...now for your next challenge...use them in a sentence in the order given
  17. Honestly answer the question "What would you do if your friends and family didn't like me?"
  18. The fine AFF instructors at Skydive New England taught the following for the twin otter: Check in Check out Prop Out In Out Arch Arch Arch Arch....
  19. You are definitely not alone! Brian Germain has a book called "Transcending Fear". I haven't read it, but perhaps it may help. http://www.bigairsportz.com/publishing.php#transcending
  20. True...he's live this week and after this week he'll do recorded announcements for the show. Smart move on his part to join up. The bit with fake Arnold and him was hilarious A while ago XM had problems with the Boeing-made satellites and settled with them or their insurers to recover quite a bit of money. If I remember right, the problem is power-related and reduced the expected life of the satellite by a number of years. Those were the "Rock" and "Roll" satellites. Don't know about one crashing, tho.
  21. Bubba the love sponge, Martha Stewart, Tony Hawk, Bode Miller, Richard Simmons, Lance Armstrong, and some others I don't know. Remember that the HS show isn't just him...its a whole cast. They added George Takei as the announcer for the show. When HS left terrestial radio, his listener base was something like 18 million people, but they were only on in 50 markets. Now they reach ALL 240ish markets. Check again...XM had just under 6 million at the close of 2005 (behind their estimates) and Sirius had 3.3 million (beyond their estimates). Sirius is outselling XM right now, for the first time.
  22. ...I had a similar situation...go out to a high-dollar restaurant (her idea) and get broken up on (again, her idea). After the breakup, the conversation went like this: Me: "Well, the age difference has been difficult". Her: "Oh, you aren't too young for me". Me: "I'm not talking about my age" Her: (pause) "wow...never heard that before" (tears) She was 7 years older than me. I picked up the bill out of guilt .
  23. Ya know...I never thought about alarm clocks for a deaf person. Can you run that on "full auto" if you've got a girl staying the night?
  24. Anyone got metrics of serious injuries/deaths due to lack of skill on HP canopies broken down by age and disregarding skill and # of jumps? I'm curious if the results are skewed at all.
