  1. Now see, a whole post I can comfortably read without getting a headache
  2. Have someone teach you how to PLF. Practice that, a lot. Practice some more. Do this before your next jump. Do NOT land on your ass again this can break your back. ciel bleu, Saskia
  3. I have 2 decent quality small knives on all my rigs. One knife goes left, one knife goes right. One knife goes low (in a pocket in my legstrap), one knife goes high (in the opposite mudflap, have your rigger install a snap if your rig doesn't have one there already). One more on my cheststrap for CRW. ciel bleu, Saskia
  4. It's sortof the same as a PdF one, it has the same metal ring, but the line bit is longer. Since for some reason I ended up with a softlink set of 2 PdF ones plus 2 Precision ones, I kinda noticed the difference I haven't got them anymore so can't post a pic. ciel bleu, Saskia
  5. Whatever you decide to buy, make sure your reserve is 190 sqft or bigger. You do not want a WL higher than 1.0 for your reserve at this point (or, ever if you're smart) and you certainly do not want a reserve that's smaller than the smallest main you're comfy flying. ciel bleu, Saskia
  6. As been said a number of times before, mp don't mean a thing. You need to look at sensor size and lens size+quality, mainly. My old 6mp DSLR (even my first, a 3mp DSLR) blows any mini camera, go pro or otherwise, out of the water. ciel bleu, Saskia
  7. Really? I disagree with " Pilot is the sportiest of the three by far." Ditto. I've flown all 3 in varying sizes and owned various safire's and a pilot 124. IMO the pilot is the least sportiest of the 3. ciel bleu, Saskia
  8. Yes Dave. That's exactly what we're trying to do. Thanks for keeping it on topic. He has a very good point though. A "top" shot like that has the potential and the history of getting deadly. For safety, stay on level with the tandem at deployment time, not any higher, do not pop-up on deployment. I personally would not showcase an unsafe shot like that. ciel bleu, Saskia
  9. No. No wired remote port. You could rig up a wired remote with the IR remote attached, like we used to do 5 yrs ago with the Nikon D70, but that was not optimal ciel bleu, Saskia
  10. Steering in a 2out situation should be done gradually and only as necessary. Ie, avoiding that roof. We have some video we show at our FJC that shows an intentional side-by-side where the jumper can steer quite a lot with the reserve canopy following the main around. OTOH I had a 2out biplane that after 1000ft downplaned on me all by itself - I did have the brakes of the main unstowed so it was flying a bit faster than the reserve, but I wasn't steering at the time. YMMV. Just do not flare or pump the brakes. ciel bleu, Saskia
  11. A better manifest Wanna get something off your chest? ciel bleu, Saskia
  12. That was cool, your and my first night jump I'm just jealous you still fit in the same suit as 9 yrs ago ciel bleu, Saskia
  13. Sleeping in the bunkhouse is 10 euro (bring your own sleeping bag). We have 2 gear shops at our DZ and both have gear for rent ranging from student type gear to downsizing gear, so you can rent a 170 or 190. Jumping is from 9 till sunset saturday, 10 till sunset sunday. 2 Grand Caravans and a bar, what more do you want ciel bleu, Saskia
  14. Same in the Netherlands. So basically, come over to Europe if you're "underage" and you can jump. Not just tandem, either. SL or AFF can be done starting age 16 here. ciel bleu, Saskia
  15. You picked the wrong weekend Next saturday all of the Dutch skydivers who have an instructor rating of one kind or another have a day of seminars in A'dam. I know I'll be in Teuge the next weekend - Teuge is about an hours train ride (+ a short busride) I think, out of Schiphol Airport. ciel bleu, Saskia
  16. This sort of thought process seems to abound... Megapixels are really meaningless in the grandscheme without discussing the size of sensor. 5mp on a large sensor is significantly preferable to 15mp on a small sensor. Yup. Saw a nice (professional) camera helmet a couple days ago with a go pro on it for stills, because its 11MP is better than the 6MP Canon EOS it replaced, right?! ciel bleu, Saskia
  17. Neither, as these are both low resolution lenses and the CX is a HD camera. Unless you really really need a low profile lens because you're doing handycam, which you're not, get a HD lens not a crappy SD one. But, check out the camera forum. There's a list of suitable lenses in there somewhere too. ciel bleu, Saskia
  18. I have the cheap version of a Roomba, the Robomop. It actually does work, and the cats seem to like chasing it. ciel bleu, Saskia
  19. Basically the Nitro and the Nitron are the same canopy. So no confusion here. ciel bleu, Saskia
  20. Do your AFF first. After that, your instructers will have a good idea about your fallrate and consequently what type of fabric and fit you'll need to buy. Your first suit is likely different from the training one in a couple respects. Look for a 2nd hand suit for your first one or two suits as your landings will not be perfect yet and you may want to change skydiving disciplines which will need a totally different suit so budget on buying 2 cheaper suits for now. For goggles and helmets, again, do your AFF first. There may be a number of rules you'll have to follow about what you can jump. Also you have no idea yet about what options you may want or need. Slow down on buying stuff yet, go jump, have fun, save that money for when you know what you want and need to buy ciel bleu, Saskia
  21. The nitron is a high performance canopy so you should have 400-ish jumps before jumping a canopy like that. Why would you downsize 2 sizes at once plus switch canopy categories as well (that counts as another downsize)? Think that's smart? A sabre 2 is a very good canopy to learn to swoop on, if that's what you mean by "performance". ciel bleu, Saskia
  22. We had a girl who jumped with big fluffy duck feet for a Easter photo. She had a lot of trouble on pulltime because she couldn't stop the forward movement they created - OUCH on opening. As to the flipper, recently I saw some shots on here somewhere with a couple skydivers dressed up as divers. Maybe there's video of that. ciel bleu, Saskia
  23. Read the specifications, if it says Optical Image Stabilisation it's no good for skydiving. ciel bleu, Saskia
  24. For good or even halfway decent tandem video you need to be able to lie still and lie below the level of the tandem, looking up at the student's face. Without wings that's awfully hard to do. So get wings and learn to use them. Learn to use them on bellyflyers NOT on tandems. Of course you also do not learn to fly camera using tandems, so get wings and after a solo jump or two with them go film a lot of FS4 and FS2/coach type jumps (outside video of course). ciel bleu, Saskia
  25. An estimate is about 600 jumps for a complete new lineset for a normal sports canopy. Upper steering lines, if they're microline, need replacing about ~300 jumps. Lower steering lines need replacing a bit more often especially if you have velcro on your risers or jumpsuit (). The fabric itself of a ZP canopy can handle 1000+ jumps (a lot more sometimes) depending on where it's been jumped, packed and taken care of. So usually a canopy is worth a 2nd lineset or more. ciel bleu, Saskia
