As an EMT who has transported many many patients with both feet in the grave and yet they still have a pulse. I would have to say that letting go is one of the most important things to relieve yourself of the burden. Any indivudual with no brane function has no quality of life whatsoever. It also costs a lot of money to keep someone in a skilled care facility on a vent and one tube feeding. This is not the way that any body should have to grow up. Medical Science would probibly be able to keep that body alive for 100 years or more. It is not fair to the taxpayers to ultimately burden the cost of this individual as well as the emotional burden to the family members. Now as a father I am not sure what I would do in this situation. Went out today to do a little paintballing. There was a scenario game going on, so I really wanted to play. I ran, I jumped, I toecrawled, I shot a bunch of people, and made some sweet surrender moves. Well look at this. Pretty much you can just decide to do a Jump. You can got to you local DZ and for the most part do a tandem, and have a story to tell some people. however with a marathon you really have to work to get up to that distance. I mean you can't just go out there and say hmmm I feel like running 26 someodd miles today. Most "Normal" people would probibly give up after 5 miles the most. It takes a lot of hard work just to get up and do one marathon... also is 5k really a fun run? Let met tell you after about the first 2.2 it starts to reall suck. I am more of an 800m runner myself.
