Says the guy with the red parachute USPA got started before BASE was common, and now I think it is a tad too late to go about changing the name. Besides, I think USPA sounds better. ;) --- 'Damn, I sure wish I would of kept that pretty silver handle' - cutaway ruminations

Sounds like you already know what you should be doing if you are asking yourself those questions. I have only been skydiving about 2 1/2 years now, but have a lot of the same opinions as you do when it comes to extra gadgets (over half my jumps have been on rigs without a cypres/rsl, etc) However, I just got one put in my rig, and won't have any problem jumping with it. Want to know why? Because I look at it the same way I look at an airbag. It is just a device that, chances are, will do more good than bad in the unlikely event that the sh*t really hits the fan, and is relativly unlikely to kill/injure me during normal activities. I figure the small decrease in the risk of me bouncing is worth the small $$ amount (yes it is pretty small compared to all the other skydiving toys out there) that it costs. The reason why I am putting it in now instead of later is both a combination of finances and fortune - reserve repack time came up, and I realized how much it would hurt those I love if I bounced. Changed the whole risk/reward thing enough to prompt me to get it. *shrugs* Does it mean I rely on it? heh not likely. I have and will continue to jump without a cypres when one isn't conveniently available for the same reason I would drive someones car without airbags when mine wasn't convenient. If you went up and decided you couldn't jump anymore without a Cypres then yes, I think you are throwing in the towel. But if you decided you wanted one when you jump then unless you have some mitigating factor, I think you are making a good decision. Damn that was long winded

well, increase the SOA of course. If the DNS server software has any clue, it will send update notifications to all secondaries, and they should fetch the new zones. Of course, if you are making changes often, you really should rethink your delegation setup. ;) --- 'Damn, I sure wish I would of kept that pretty silver handle' - cutaway ruminations

Unfortunatly, Access is not a simple program, and can be very, very finicky and unreliable. We use it here for internal office stuff, and I don't think a day has gone by that I haven't heard 'Ok everyone, out of the db, I have to restart it'. *shrug* If you are familiar with it though, it is better than most alternatives I can suggest. (which have quite a bit more of a starter learning curve). ACT is a pretty decent program, and thought I don't have any hands on experience with it, we use it for all our contact management here and it seems to do pretty well. Biggest con I can think about it is that it wants to monopolize everything re: contacts (which can actually be seen as a bit of a pro ;) ) Anyways good luck. You'll need it using microsoft products in a mission critical enviroment --- 'Damn, I sure wish I would of kept that pretty silver handle' - cutaway ruminations

generally the type of people who do those sort of crimes are high on critical thinking skills or self-control. Just a thought --- 'Damn, I sure wish I would of kept that pretty silver handle' - cutaway ruminations

Wouldn't this count as an unauthorized mod, and disqualify it from reserve use? --- 'Damn, I sure wish I would of kept that pretty silver handle' - cutaway ruminations

I do not think it is a right in the legal sense, however it is an absolutely vital part of our community. Without reports of fatalities and the EXACT circumstances surrounding them, how are we going to make corrective action to cut down the chances of it happening again? If we withhold parts of the story leading up to it, (intoxication, etc) then we make the entire report not only worthless but WORSE than worthless - a lie that can lead other people into a false sense of security. People die in this sport - and the key to keeping the fatality rate as low as possible is not burying our heads in the sand, but full disclosure within the community so that we can help prevent these tragedies from occuring again. If I burn in, ESPECIALLY if it was a stupid mistake, I damn well want everyone to know why. Sure it can hurt - no one wants to hear that their son got himself killed because he was doing drugs, or that their husband died because of bad judgment. But by disseminating the WHOLE truth, you might avoid having someone elses spouse, children, or parents from having to go through the same thing. In some other sports where this kind of openness isn't as common, I see so many people repeat the mistakes that have killed numerous people in the past. --- 'Damn, I sure wish I would of kept that pretty silver handle' - cutaway ruminations

Aah, the original poster left out a very critical detail. It doubles in value - but you can only redeem it in BONEHEAD MERCHANDISE. Considering the markup they undoubtably have, that is more of a 'give us an interest free loan for 6 months, get merchandise at at only 25% above cost' --- 'Damn, I sure wish I would of kept that pretty silver handle' - cutaway ruminations

Umm, doubles after 6 months? Can anyone say 'Ponzi'? --- 'Damn, I sure wish I would of kept that pretty silver handle' - cutaway ruminations

Meeting the wrong guy jumpers? Course could be the location.. Damn near a sausage fest around these parts Course the thing about not finding what you really want when you are trying too hard does seem to apply to glasses, keys, and people. All the really cool people I have met (including some quite attractive women- yow!), it has always been when I have not been looking for a 'mate', but just hanging out where I like to hang out, and talking to and meeting people. Course I also haven't had a date in awhile, so take it all with a grain of salt. --- 'Damn, I sure wish I would of kept that pretty silver handle' - cutaway ruminations

Know what you mean by that! Women I meet seem to have a hard time understanding that I have my own life. Go figger --- 'Damn, I sure wish I would of kept that pretty silver handle' - cutaway ruminations

So, why did you? And why are you still in it? Enquiring minds want to know. --- 'Damn, I sure wish I would of kept that pretty silver handle' - cutaway ruminations

Sounds like a bad/dangerous fit to me. On my rig (which fits quite nicely, and quite comfortable), the chest strap is right around nipple level, bit below (male) when I am standing. Under canopy it doesn't shift more than 3-4 inches up. Sounds like your rig was cut for andre the giant. A-fricken-men. Its amazing all the bullshit and lies people hurl around, and then act all suprised when it turns into a major drama fest. heh, but then, as the prop turns... --- 'Damn, I sure wish I would of kept that pretty silver handle' - cutaway ruminations

When I cut-away my main (daylight), it streamered a bit, but the risers were the heavy part and stayed plainly visible during the entire float to the ground. for comparison, I couldn't see my pilot chute or d-bag anywhere. (it is a collapsable though, so that undoutably played a part). I would never tape something to my hacky. Just BEGGING for a malfunction of some sort. Something taped to your riser (as long as it doesn't interfere with your three-rings, RSL, or provide some sort of cutting/puncture hazard), seems to be by far the safer option. I can imagine all sorts of bad things happening at pull time involving a light attached to a hackey! Spotting anything except a strobe (unless your main landed next to the peas), would still be a real PITA I would think. I don't think you are going to get your average strobe safely attached to ANY part of your main/main deployment system without it causing some sort of entanglement hazard. Seems like the prudent thing is to not have malfunctions during night jumps --- 'Damn, I sure wish I would of kept that pretty silver handle' - cutaway ruminations

I climb about 3 days a week, lead as much as possible, and am currently around a 5.10 b-c climber. Getting better every time I go though. :) --- 'Damn, I sure wish I would of kept that pretty silver handle' - cutaway ruminations

This may work for fast climbing jump planes, but when going to 11 or so in a small cessna a lot can change between when you pass 4-5k and jump run. One day I managed to see light and scattered clouds with bases around 4 and tops around 5, and on jump run we had to make three passes to find a hole, and we had cloud tops at and above our level. Found out after I cleared the base of the clouds through the hole that they had moved down to just a few hundred feet above my pull altitude (3k). Be aware out there folks, you don't want to jump through a cloud that you think has a bottom at 5 and find out it has moved to 2. Weather can change awfully fast and get ugly real quick sometimes!
