Some Personal Observations to Help Save a Little Fuel

That may work where you dont need to reduce speed, but when slowing down in a manual it is ALWAYS best to have the car in gear. This is beacuse when the throttle is not applied when the car is in gear, NO fuel is used. Hwoever, if you stick it in neutral whilse slowing down then the engine will use fuel on tick over, which can add up to quite alot. BP I don't believe you are correct. It is not ALWAYS best to slow down while in gear using a manual. Can you elaborate on why you think a car in gear and a car idling, not being given any gas, have different gas consumptions? Are you saying that the engine is not consuming any gas when a car is in gear and no gas is applied? Skymama's #2 stalker - -

A good one I've been using for at least a year or more is putting my car in neutral when I can, as I have a manual. What I mean is I coast when the terrain allows. There are places in routes to and from work that allow me to coast for a mile. It may not be that big of a deal, but every little bit helps. Skymama's #2 stalker -
