  1. I know this isn't a computer forum, but I wouldn't know where to start looking elsewhere, so I hope there are some people on here who can help me. I just bought a used laptop and the headphone jack doesn't seem to work properly. When I listen to music on the headphones, I can hear the music, but the lyrics are extremely quiet (like barely audible). When I listen to something that is strictly vocals (like Skydive Radio) I can hear it, but it's really quiet. I've played around with a few sound settings in the control panel, but nothing's worked. The speakers work fine, it's just the headphones that give me problems. Any ideas? God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  2. Assuming you're talking about the button, I believe I used a 9/16" spade drill bit to do mine. I just went slow and steady, it worked fine. It seems like it's a little small, but just work it in with a bit of elbow grease and it works great. 3. I completely forgot I started this thread! We've been using the unit since about April for doing tandem videos, it seems to be working well. It is fast, but I've messed up a few DVD's and had to toss them . We use a sound mixing board with it as well. I attached some pictures of the table I built for it. 4. Nice picture, but it looks as if you're about to lose your slider! God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  5. When I was in Perris this winter, the told me that some people have been switching to the BH chincup simply because it's more comfortable, and it works with the old rachet straps. Now mind you this is with the new Hawkeyes, I'm not sure if they use the same chincup/rachets as the old style. 6. I recently broke my home made tongue switch in the plane doing a tandem vid. When I got down (backing up the plane I might add) I grabbed a friend's new switch and hooked it up. I think it's the Sonic Pro Mouth Switch, and it seems OK so far. I really liked my home made switch, it cost me about $20 in parts and about a half hour of time. I was even able to put some hot glue on it, let it half harden and then bite it, effectively molding it to my mouth, so it was effortless to hold in the mouth. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I liked mine the best. It was cheaper than a store bought one (if you have 1/2 hr of free time) and it worked just fine for 350+ jumps. I seem to be at a loss for free time in the summer, so I'll use the mouth switch for the rest of the season, then build a new switch in the winter and keep the mouth switch as a backup. If you'd like help on how to build one, PM me and I'll give you some tips. God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  7. From what I hear Kurt did not die ground launching, but rather he was killed while being towed behind a truck under a ram air parachute. God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.

  9. Problem solved... kind of. I wasn't sure what you meant by the hinge spring, so I looked around near the only spring I found, which was on the left if you're looking in the tape door, which would actually be the rear of the camera. I was what looked to be a position sensor of some kind and started playing around. I eventually found that I had slightly deformed the rear panel of the camera (where the menu buttons, etc... are) so that it was further from the tape door. The inside of this panel happens to be where the sensor is mounted. I can now get the tape to eject if I squeeze this panel back into place as I open the tape door. It works... for now. I'm hoping it can last me until I find a more permanent solution. Thanks for the help Doug. Sean LR God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  10. Well, I have an update. I managed to free the tape door and I got it functioning properly again, but the camera doesn't "ding" and the tape doesn't eject once the door is fully open. It would seem to me that the sensor that tells the camera the door is open in malfunctioning. Does anyone know where this sensor is? 11. Well, I went to take the tape out of my PC-120 yesterday, and found that the case of the camera appears as if it's been stepped on, or had some other large force applied to it. I'm not sure when this happened, but it fact remains that I'm unable to get the tape compartment open, and the case is still broken. It's hard to explain, so I took some pictures (which are attached). The tape door seems to be partially open, but it's not really. The plastic covering the tape door is starting to open, but the metal frame that is suposed to open with it is firmly locked in place. The slide to release the tape door is stuck in the open position, but the door will not open. Has anyone had this problem? Does anyone know a solution? And if none of that works, does anyone have a PC-120 they could sell me? Thanks, take care! God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  12. I can't comment on the flight charachtaristics, as I've never flown a storm, but my personal opinion is that they designed it to fill the same role that the Triathlon plays in Aerodyne's lineup, with both freefall and CRW moels available. I think that within a few years, you'll see the Spectre and the Lightning phased out... God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  13. I wish I could, but the problem seemed to solve itself! When William from Aviacom (who replied above) saw my post, he contacted my DZ by telephone and talked to me about it. He asked me to try double clicking the button, and holding it for 5 sec, neither of which worked. He then suggested that we open the reserve, unplug the display for 5 sec, and plug it back in, which he was sure would work. It was the middle of the day, so I was going to do it that night, but it un-froze itself and turned off about 4 hrs later. We turned it on, and it was fine from there on. 15. Hey all, one of my customers seems to be having a problem with his Argus. He tried to turn it on and it froze on the screen that says "Hello." I contacted Argus by phone, but Karel is on vacation, and I'm unable to reach him on his cell. Has anyone had this problem and knows how to fix it? He'd like to jump this weekend but is unable to as nobody knows what his AAD is thinking. Thanks in advance for your help. 16. That's interesting to note. I'm about to take my Strong TI rating, and they most definetly tell you to cutaway before you deploy the reserve... God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  17. If it was the remote, why did you have to replace teh camera? Was it the remote port on the camera that failed? God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  18. I see what you're saying, I'll have to build me a new remote and try it out. Does anyone have any other ideas in case that's not the problem? God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  19. That was a thought, but why would it work perfectly after simply turning the cam off and on? The position/orientation of the tongue switch didn't change at all. God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  20. Well, when I bought my camera and decided to go Pentax because I already had lenses, I wish I would have thought about the fact that there would be very few people to help me when I run into problems... So, on to the actual problem: I have had by camera (Pentax *istDL) for about 200-250 jumps, with no problems whatsoever. I went up to shoot a friend's brother's ash jump this Saturday, and was quite disapointed to come down and find that my camera had not taken a single picture in freefall. The one I took in the plane just before exit was there, but none from FF. I brushed it off, assuming I had probably turned it off and forgotten to turn it back on right before exit. The next day, I went up to shoot a tandem, and had the exact same thing happen, 2 jumps in a row. On the second one, I test fired the cam right after opening, and found that it would not fire. Once I turned the camera off and back on, it worked fine. I was quite stumped, and didn't really know what to do. I changed the batteries for fresh ones, and changed the SD card. I did another jump and it took the pics in freefall, but it took them @ 125 shutter speed when I was sure I set it at 500. I think I'm sure, but I could have been wrong. Does anyone have any ideas why it might do this? God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  21. That's not what I meant, I was reffering to Mark's comments, as I believe he is from Ontario... God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  22. By no means do I mean to trivialize what's going on, it's realy cool that there's going to be a tunnel on Canadain soil, but it's not really that major to anyone living in the west (remember, we're here too you know)! I can get a ticket to Palm Springs (Perris tunnel) or Pheonix (Eloy Tunnel) for the same or less money than going to Montreal, never mind the guys in Vancouver, they can get even cheaper tickets to the states seeing as they're more of a hub than Edmonton. [joke] How many Ontarians does it take to screw in a lightbulb?? ...... Only one, he just holds it up and the whole country revolves around him! 23. I just recived mine on Friday and it's a godsend. I went with the one from Rob W you recomended, I'm thoroughly impressed. It's a great device to have! God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  24. Actually, Brass grommets come standard on the Xaos, (as well as most of Precision's other canopies IIRC), which have HMA lines. The piece about the SS grommets causing faster openings comes directly from them. God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
  25. What number is imprinted on the grommet? As far as I know, most canopy mfg's use 8's as standard for either stainless or brass. I've never compared the two side by side, but I have to imagine an 8 is an 8 in stainless or brass. The other thing you might want to think about is that I've read stainless can contribute to faster openings due to their increased weight.
