Bold seems to have served her pretty well up to this point, here’s hoping the streak continues.

John Oliver's got a history of using HBO's significant resources to do ridiculous things on Last Week Tonight. This week's episode focused on immigration, and the second half of the show was mainly about Lee Greenwood and his 'God Bless the USA' song. I remember when they played it during my Naturalization Ceremony and I thought it was odd, as I had first known the 'God Bless Canada' version. Oliver pulled one of his classic ridiculous/hilarious stunts to offer up an alternative to Lee Greenwood's anthem for future Naturalization ceremonies, and it's absofuckinglutely brilliant. The whole 18 minutes is worth a watch, but skip to 14:05 for just the song.

This site has been a go-to for me for over 20 years, it's sad but many thanks to HH for keeping it going as long as he did. I've learned a lot, met some amazing people, had some great times and once even arranged a 3-country beer run thanks to DZ.com... It makes me wonder how much is the decline here due to a decline in sport jumping in general vs there just being many more options for online communities these days?

Well, I guess that just means he'll have to change his standards again...

If only Thomas had taken John Oliver up on his offer

At least 2 decades, by my count

The reality is that we're unlikely to change the fact that an unstable person can get their hands on a firearm in the US. We'd probably all like that to not be the case, and maybe sometime down the road it'll change, but it ain't gonna happen tomorrow. Not trying to put words in Joe's mouth, but I take his point to be that it's at least worthwhile trying to take steps to minimize the damage: is it not worth trying to find steps to minimize the chance of Billy - having decided that he's done with the world - at least doesn't make that decision for anybody other than himself and not for the rest of his family at the same time? I don't know what those steps would be, but that discussion seems more worthwhile than wish-casting the end of prevalent guns or making sarcastic comments about laws not working in the US.

Okay so I wasn't going to risk derailing the thread asking about Bill's response, but now I'm curious. The original episode had Apu asking 'Is there a chance the track could bend?' and the huckster replies "not on your life, my Hindu friend"....In Bill's response he said 'my gullible friend'... A few years back, comedian Hari Kondabolu (who is fucking hilarious and generally brilliant) made a documentary called 'The Problem With Apu' that called out the racist stereotype of the long-time Simpson's character. He made some really good points about the casual racism that the character was based on, and The Simpsons ultimately got rid of Apu in response to the doc. I wasn't sure if Bill was quoting a post-Apu edit of the episode or if the original is still playing....By chance do you remember? ****As long as I'm thread-drifting on the Monorail episode; when I was 17, some friends and I got kicked out of a campground because we were next to some Mennonite campers and us, being young dipshit assholes, were around the fire late at night singing a rendition of the Monorail song with 'Mennonite' instead of 'Monorail'....

It’s really quite simple: you start with the conclusion, for example “Trump good, Libs bad”, and you just work backwards from there to try and twist the facts into that form…Pro Tip: this is easier if you do it with a complete disregard for facts and/or previous statements that you yourself have asserted as facts. It truly is a flawless strategy.

FIFY It’s sad/ironic that the Trumpians use ‘American exceptionalism‘ give themselves permission to tear down the relationships and standards on which it was built. I don’t know that the jig is already up, given that most major countries are grappling with the same stuff, but it definitely seems like the empire’s on a downward slope

Just got out of a taping of The Daily Show…I always kicked myself for not seeing Jon Stewart in his natural habitat before he retired the first time, so I figured I’d make it happen while the option’s on the table. Tim Walz was the guest and damn, he just came across as a real nice guy. Comparing him and Harris to the Trump show is just fucking sad. $5 says Fox spends half a news cycle on Walz’s stumbling a little on the phrase ‘Madison Wisconsin’ after the episode drops.

Namesake of The Cabot Trail, a beautiful drive around the Cape Breton Highlands....Where I grew up, the Cabot Trail was just 'the road'.

Millions of people subscribe to his podcast and she's trying to reach the people where they are. Speaking of not being able to take someone seriously, have you watched a Trump rally lately?

What are you, butt buddies or something?

It's also incredibly laughable that Brent ---FUCKING BRENT!!!--- is talking shit about the predictive ability of others....

I share the logical end-point from which your post is coming….I wish I shared your confidence that the outcome will be logical. Seems almost certain that Harris will win the popular vote, but to Nigel’s point: the electoral college and GOP Tom-fuckery will likely result in a nail-biter. It’s a sad truth.

You keep posting this BS that assumes DEI means hiring a minority hire despite them being unqualified, when there's a properly qualified white dude just sitting there. What about when it's just a matter of consciously opening up the hiring pool to make sure that it doesn't consist %100 of graduates from the hiring manager's university (who happen to be 93.5% white Christian dudes)? Does that scenario get the Winsor seal of approval, or is the chance that a slightly less qualified brown person would get the job make it just not worth the risk?

Who in the Great Wide Fuck is hoping for any of this?!?!? Stronger storms are a reality of climate change. The science is pretty clear, and actually pretty easy to understand for anybody willing to pull their fingers out of their ears long enough to learn about it. Nobody is hoping that you're wrong and that more people suffer devastation...some people are trying to point out how ass-backwards your predictions are, but methinks they're underestimating how dug in you are....I know I gave up a while ago

It definitely made headlines down here when it happened. I guess it just got bumped pretty quick-like. No disagreement on the ridiculousness of it.

I just took a couple-point dip to my credit score after a big last-minute international work trip. $8k in flights/hotels/meals on top of the typical monthly expenses. It was paid off the day after the statement posted, but it still brought me down a hair. ..........As I was typing this, I pulled out the Chase app to check where I was at...As of October 1 my score is up 10pts due to, amongst other things, a $7600 decrease in total balance and a significant drop in % of credit usage.

I’d suggest you break out the cold-weather riding gear, you’ll be at it for a while.
