50 beautiful virgins, and a life time of free beer for all
VTmotoMike08 replied to James.UWE's topic in The Bonfire
Done. But number 2 needs some clarification where it asks if I have ever driven while over the legal limit. If I have 3 beers am I over the limit? I don't know, almost certainly not, especially if I just ate, but I don't really know because I don't carry one of those pocket breathalyzer things. You might want to add "not sure" as a choice. -
Not replying to anyone in particular. There was a poll on CNN.com earlier today asking if you considered it to be an act of terrorism. 65% of people did not think this was terrorism! WTF?! It does not have to be committed by an Arab or a foreigner to be a terrorist act and 65% of the people out there are too bat shit stupid to realize that

So if anyone cares... We had a talk and agreed that shes gonna kick in 200/ month and me and the other guy kick in 100/ month. Much to her surprise, the landlord did not care that she thought it was unfair and was prepared to drag us into court, what an asshole I thought about blackmailing her because I have a some really good dirt, but it turns out thats called extortion and I would go to jail. Then I thought about suing her in small claims court but I realized thats more than 400 bucks worth of hassel so I decided to just pay it. She's still an asshat, but this was probably the best resolution that I could hope for. I'm gonna use all her dishes and never clean up after myself just to piss her off for costing me $400

Now big brother is watching us both

Wow, they're not messing around. I guess it won't go over well if I post it here then. Basically, it was a 6 page rant about taxes and the government. The guy is a nut job. Edit: I see another poster just posted it.

Another poster found his suicide note online, here's the link. http://www.embeddedart.com/ I'd read it quick, I bet the authorities take it down pretty soon. I've got a saved copy...

Well, it looks like I could go after her for up to $5,000 in small claims court in my state, but it will be virtually impossible if I can't get her next address. So I think I will tell her what I am doing, then try to get the other guy to share the costs with me and we will both go after her. I just gotta come up with a creative way to get her next home or work address. We will see...

Well, I don't know if deployed is the right word, he got transferred to southern California right before our big snow storm, such a rough life And my share would actually go down if we re-split it three ways, her room really is that much bigger than mine. So she would pay more if we re-split it and went just by room size. The couple kinda got the best end of the stick in the initial spilt, I was OK with that because they found the house and were offering me a slot that a couple others wanted. So thats a no go.
-
Probably the best solution, although I still don't like it. I think she should have to pay more because they (now she) got the master bedroom and when we split the rent, we did it my room size. I could pay up then go after her in small claims court, but she is moving across the country at the end of the lease (if not sooner). I don't know if small claims court would have the authority to make her come back for a hearing when all of $1600 is on the line.

Is any of this rent division in the lease or somewhere else in writing? It is in an addendum to the lease, followed by "All tenants are collectively responsible for $2200/ month". So if one of us drops out, then they are within their rights to collect the total amount from those who remain any way they can. Hypothetically, if I skipped town then they could go after my roomates to collect my share too. It seems my best bet is to continue paying my share, quit talking to my roomates and refer them to my lawyer, who will try to intimidate her into paying the part that is missing because her boyfriend got deployed. Not the solution that I prefer, but I gotta look out for myself. If I could find a lawyer who would make a couple intimidating phone calls for cheaper than it would be for me to cover the missing rent then I might give it a try.

We are definatly on the same page. I doubt you remember me, but I was with the Chambersburg crew that came to the last Dublin boogie that was actually in Dublin, GA. Anyone know the answer to the following: -In general, if we get evicted, can the landlord sue me and garnish my wages to collect on the balance of the lease plus legal fees even if I am no longer living there? That would be the worst case. -What are the chances of it going to arbitration? If she still refuses to pay up, and it goes before a judge, what are the chances of him/ her seeing things my way? -And if they just go to a collection agency instead of sueing me, then what are my options? Damn cheap ass whuffos, this is gonna end up costing me money because they won't keep up their end of the contract
-
I wish I could, but I don't have that authority to do so. Even if I could find someone to take over her/ his part of the lease, it would need land lords approval. Agreed that they are asshats and I won't be maintaing any kind of friendship with them. That's what I get for living with whuffos
-
Well, I could, it wouldn't break the bank, and it would be easier than involving lawyers and possibly getting evicted but I'm opposed to covering someone else's ass. And I have a feeling all the others would walk and take their chances on getting sued before paying more rent. I would kinda feel taken advantage of. And when we divided the total rent, we based it on who was getting the biggest rooms. I opted for the smallest room and smallest rent. Now she's got the master bedroom thats 2X the size of my room and a private bath so I feel she should pony up the cash. I am betting that an arbitrator (or judge) would see things my way but I am hoping it doesn't come to that. And I don't have the authority to kick out another tenant. Would also be hard to find one for just the 4 months that remain.

George Lucas responds to the Death Star issue discussed in "Clerks"
VTmotoMike08 replied to SpeedRacer's topic in The Bonfire
George Lucas was on the Daily Show a couple weeks back. They got to discussing the differences in the older and newer movies and how they have a completely different set of fans, and most of the "old school" fans have not really liked the new movies. Lucas' response was basically that "I've made a ton of money" and I really don't care if the old school, uber star wars freak fans don't like the new movies. Can't say that I blame him. When it just comes down to it, its only a movie and its prettys silly to get wrapped up in the details, which I think was the point of the "clerks" scene. -
Any bored lawyers out there want to give this problem a shot? If you ever need drawings for your house sealed by an engineer, I will do my job for free for you also So about 8 months ago, I signed a $2200/ month lease with 3 other people- a couple, he is military and she’s a nurse and another single guy. My part was agreed to be $550/ month. The deal is that we need to come up with the whole $2200/ month but the landlord doesn’t really care how we break it up and we just came to an agreement among ourselves. At the time, he was planning on deploying in 14 months, so signing the 12 month lease was fine. Well, the military being what it is, he got deployed early, so he submitted the necessary paperwork to get himself out of the lease as there is apparently a law that allows this for service members. Common sense would say that his girlfriend (now fiancé) should pick up his share of the lease ($400/ month) since they are together and they have by far the biggest bedroom. Well, she doesn’t like this and decides to only pay her regular payment last month. So our landlord calls and says “where’s the rest of the money?” I’m pretty pissed because she lied and told me she talked to the landlord and get permission to pay less, which she clearly did not. Her plan is not to A) Appeal to the good graces of the landlord for a reduction in rent. She’s got a serious case of princess syndrome and thinks this will work. B) Walk out on the lease and move in with parents until he returns. Clearly, this is good for her wallet, despite forfeiting the security deposit. I don’t think she cares about any effect on her credit score. She also thinks that if she chooses (B) then the landlord will forget about it and not drag us to court and garnish our wages, which I believe is a possibility. So, what should I do to protect myself? Should I get a lawyer and refuse to talk to anyone? My thoughts are that we will get evicted, and get sued, but that we will be offered to go to arbitration first. Hopefully, at arbitration she will come around and realize that she needs to cough up the money. I’m not sure if them getting engaged would have any impact on anything, but I doubt it. I am afraid that I am screwed because the official agreement doesn't differentiate who pays how much. Any ideas?

First I would have a huge party. I'll be smart about it eventually, but I won't feel too bad about having some fun upfront. I'll get a couple tailgate planes, some big helo's, a few ballons, fill em up with kegs and food, pick up all my friends and fly out to a big open field someplace warm and jump for a couple weeks

Should be an interesting thread. My guess is about as much as a decent waiter/ waitress. Keep in mind that there's a line out the door of people who would do it for less, as every unemployed skydiver would love to do it for a couple months. I also heard, second hand, that you don't get hired just for being a badass flyer. They hire someone who they think will be good at teaching and interacting, then teach them how to fly. Much easier to take a "people person" and teach them to fly than to try to teach a skygod to be a people person. Then they have a contract that requires them to work at the tunnel that just invested a ton of money in their training for X amount of time. Or the guy telling me that could have lied.

U.N. climate chiefs apologize for glacier error
VTmotoMike08 replied to airdvr's topic in Speakers Corner
I origionally went into civil engineering because I thought I wanted to make bridges. Well, the first job that came my way was in water treatment, and my career and degree ended up moving towards environmental issues. I wasn't really paying enough attention before that to have a solid opinion either way on AGW. I have an undergrad degree and also 6 graduate level credits on air quality engineering and meterorology. Yes, that instructor was a big proponent of AGW. With 30 years in the field and dozens of published papersI bet she knows a thing or two and its so unfortunate that many would dismiss her knowledge as "religious following" (not referring to you). Furthermore, my post is in no way meant to discourage reasonable scientific dessent, and I think you understood that. What I am saying is that you can't give an auidence to every dude with a theory because then you get a ton of people like the Obama birthers and flat earthers who want their ludacris crackpotted ideas to get equal time and the debate goes down the toilet and nobody knows whats going on. AGW skeptics aren't quite on the same level of ridicousleness as flat- eathers but my personal opinion remains that it will be that way within my lifetime. -

Unless you think that the scientific investigative methods of the 1700's and the 2000's are equals, then its apples and oranges. -

Look, from all your posts on here it seems to me like you are a pretty smart guy who is capable of looking at facts and coming to conclusions. So let me explain why [Riddler] is right and you are wrong Riddler says that he would change his position if the majority of relevent scientists changed theirs. Scientists do that from time to time, it is part of the scientific process and we all know that. You claim that he is defining "relevent" as only those that agree with him. Let's examine what the term relevent means for an old debate that we can all agree on, then extend that to the AGW debate in specific. Certainly, if someone says that the Earth is the center of the universe, they have removed them self from relevence in topics dealing with astronomy and the layout of the planets. We could rightly call this person a crackpot. It might be said that they are irrevelent. This is because it is not worth the time or energy to discuss a theory that has virtually no possibility of being true. In the AGW debate, one might remove themself from relevent discussion if they stated "CO2 is not a greenhouse gas" or "There is no way that man could have an impact on our atmosphere". However, relevent is more than black and white. There are shades of gray. Obama MIGHT have been born in Kenya, the CIA MIGHT have blown up the WTC and Elvis MIGHT still be alive. These things are not easily proven to be physically impossible, but no reasonable person believes that they deserve equal time in the debate spotlight and should enjoy the same consideration by policy makers as their much more likely counter theories. The vast majority of expert scientists believe that man is causing the plant to warm and the atmosphere to change in ways that are not beneficial to our survival (AGW). A few scientists (and a lot of people without expertise in climate science, who seem to think their opinions are just as important) dissent from the findings of the majority. A reasonable third party would not give the same level of relevence to a few as to many. A vocal minority should not enjoy the same consideration as the scientific majority. There has been a few notable times in scientific history where the majority has been wrong. This has happened a lot less in the last 100 years than the last 300 years. Probability is against the minority coming up with a break thru that negates the entire position of the majority, although they may occasionally ding their credibility. The error here was a "door ding" and the AGW skeptics (notice I did not use the deragatory "deniers") want to call the car totaled. So, Riddler is not defining relevent as only those that agree with him, he is recognizing that the overwhelming scientific consensus should be giving a lot more relevence than a dissenting minority. My personal prediction: AGW skeptics are about 50 years away from having the same level of credibility as flat- earthers. Disclaimer: I have a degree in Environmental Engineering, so I must have drank the kool-ade from all those edumacated univeristy types -
Doen't mirage have "modular construction" or something like that that is supposed to make it easier and cheaper to replace an individual flap if it gets damaged? I think I saw that on the features section of the web page. IMO, I would replace a flap before putting chemicals on my rig. If you are over seas then you could probably order the flap from Mirage and have it sewn on by a local master rigger (or foreign equivalent?).

Meh, I got third... used to be a lot more people in these games, what happened??? I haven't seen a two table tourney is a couple months....
