And this one time, I got a demo and said...Wheeeeeeeeeee

Nice canopy. How's the opening? I've heard the opening is a ride in itself. In a world full of people, only some want to fly... isn't that crazy! --Seal -
congrats on the D, dude! In a world full of people, only some want to fly... isn't that crazy! --Seal

I PASSED! Woo Hoo! I got a 90! Thank you all - I've been a nervous wreck for weeks, but it's all over now. I'm sitting on top of the world!

If you jumped into it, would your canopy stay inflated so you could have a crazy ride, or would you just die? In a world full of people, only some want to fly... isn't that crazy! --Seal

Navy brat here. We moved 7 times (including out of the country) before I graduated high school. Moved out of my parents' house at 18. And have moved 5 times since then (I'm 32 now). Most people won't leave their home towns because of the security there. Those of us from military backgrounds seem less afraid to try a new environment, even if the change is dramatic. Probably not much of a pain at all... (sunnydee saunters onto the dz in a tight shirt)... "Oh, fiddle dee dee! How will I ever board up the house in time for the big storm? I just don't know what I'll do if I lose the plantation!" [/scarlett] Next thing you know, the house is boarded up and she didn't even break a sweat. Ah, the power of boobies! Thanks! You're probably right. I think I'll have a beer instead of wine, since I'm just an uncultured hillbilly like that. Then off to bed for some rest. Just wanted to let my online dz know what's going on. I'll update everyone tomorrow. In a world full of people, only some want to fly... isn't that crazy! --Seal

... but I could use some good vibes. Tomorrow I'm taking the FL State Paramedic exam. I'm a little nervous, to say the least. An entire year of grueling school and clinicals and it all comes down to this. In a world full of people, only some want to fly... isn't that crazy! --Seal

Sounds YUMMY!! It's Ari's birthday today, so you could bring it by the DZ after work and feed all of us... In a world full of people, only some want to fly... isn't that crazy! --Seal

Force of habit. The people giving the injections also give injections to people who won't die soon afterward. Imagine giving someone a shot and thinking to yourself, "Geez, the last time I did this, I killed the guy". In a world full of people, only some want to fly... isn't that crazy! --Seal

Awesome! Did you guys get any promos? In a world full of people, only some want to fly... isn't that crazy! --Seal

Vibes to you. Are you a medic? That's often what'll separate you from the crowd. In a world full of people, only some want to fly... isn't that crazy! --Seal

Most of the property that the Orlando airport lies on is still original Florida swampland. There are gators like this everywhere. My friends on airport fire dept get called out once in awhile when some unsuspecting construction worker scares one of these monsters up. Except for the noise from the planes and the rare construction work, they live in a paradise - no intruders, no people, just lots of good eating and good swampland. There's all kinds of symbolism in that story... In a world full of people, only some want to fly... isn't that crazy! --Seal

Very often, the reply to that statement is something like "We've already got our 2-way planned and there's not time to rearrange it to make a 3-way". If that's not the verbatim reply, then it's something similar. I think that there are a few dot commers here that take the negative comments very personally. Understandably, they are very defensive and quick to rationalize the problem. It might be more constructive to first acknowledge the negative comments, then accept that the comments are valid, then try to change that person's perception. Not by asking them to look at things a different way, but by changing your own behavior. Many people have echoed the same complaint that no one comes up to you and offers a skydive. So the next time you go to Deland, make it a point to walk up to someone and offer to jump with them. This works especially well if you find a soloist - bring them on your jump with you. How hard can it be to add one person to your skydive? Even if it IS already dirt-dove and you're lining up the exit order. In a world full of people, only some want to fly... isn't that crazy! --Seal

Any DZ is only as fun as you make it, but there is something to be said for vibes. Deland really doesn't have the best vibes. Harsh to say, I know, but that's the truth. I've been jumping there for a little more than a year, very infrequently, and with the exception of skymama, no one has ever invited me on a jump. No one has ever introduced themselves. No one has ever just walked up and said "welcome". The kind of vibe that makes a drop zone a cool place to hang out is not something that happens automatically. It takes a lot of work, mostly from staffers. Especially on the busiest days. Anyone who wears a bright orange staff shirt should be welcoming new faces and introducing people. It only takes a minute, but the vibe lasts alot longer. Deland has become so much a team factory, that the 'flavor' is missing. They're just another vanilla dropzone located within 100 +/- miles of quite a few more flavorful dzs. That said, I'll still jump there. It's close to home and there are two people I like to hang out with. I'll also still do my part to welcome other jumpers and invite newbies into the air and invite solos to join groups (even if it means re-planning the dive on the way to altitude). That's what makes a cool vibe and if everyone did it, the vibe would be unstoppable. In a world full of people, only some want to fly... isn't that crazy! --Seal

My sister got married last month. I was stuck at home. So I'm looking at pictures instead. No regrets. Don't worry about it - do what you have to do. In a world full of people, only some want to fly... isn't that crazy! --Seal

True, true. I'm still in my VERY EARLY thirties, and I have no wife or kids. But with two dogs, one travelling bag of clothes, and gear, a minivan sure would come in handy. Hard to admit, but I really have been thinking about one. Skymama's got a real cool one that's great for dz runs. I rented one and drove across the country two years ago. Was very impressed with the family truckster on both occasions. So do they get better gas mileage than a SUV? Are they cheaper?
