Looks like the guy was using a collapsable pilot chute for it seems to hesitate to even inflate.

Can't Fly with a rig in Boston
rendezvous replied to Plaedouh's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I addition to all the other documents I also provided the TSA guys a FAX from the airline regarding the airlines policy on parachutes. They were going to use the "The Airline does not allow it" on me, but the FAX didn't leave them much choice there. For some reason while they were still pondering over all the documentaion I had provided them, they had one of the screeners go through my wallet. It was a small wallet and yet he emptied out it's contents and gave it a shake. Still don't know why. -

Opinions about all the new blood getting into BASE
rendezvous replied to SwoopnHuck's topic in Archive
Oh ! Boy ! You go to a Skydiving forum and you hear the experienced resenting new blood and growth, you come to the BASE forum and it's the same. No one seems to like new blood these days But what I'd be interested in hearing about is how were the pioneers of these sports any safer than the new blood when they took to the sport with quipment that wasn't even designed for the purpose, and then what about the large number of experienced folks, who in the name of experience, routinely perform outside the envelope of experience, safety and equipment design. From what I understand, the stats on fatalities don't seem to show a trend one way or the other or atleast that's what a lot of experienced people say. -
Jason, thanks for a wonderful bridge day. Your effort is really appreciated. Will definitely be back next year.

Dude ! I was very happy to know later that day that both you and your buddy got to jump. The nice guy who packed your rig was Junior and I was the guy who's rig he was packing when you came asking for help.

Do a poised exit and you should be fine. You'll have plenty of time to work with doing a hop'n'pop at 3500 feet. Set up for a good poised exit, relax, exit, arch and pull. Don't worry about the fact that 3500 is your hard deck. If your plane was to ever have an emergency at or below 3500 and your pilot wanted you to get out you would have to go. At that point it won't matter if 3500 is your hard deck or not. What will help you though is the thought that you've done an exit at that altitude before.

dont worry. Your instructor will help you fix it, just listen to what he has to say and then try remembering it in free fall. Many of us have been through uncontrollable spins during AFF. Don't read too much into it. It seems like a challenge but once you get it you'll feel quite stupid about not having got the hang of it earlier, it's that simple. Just enjoy the learning process and listen carefully to your instructor.

Has anyone seen the 2003 US Nationals DVD mentioned on the home page here at dropzone.com How are they on quality and coverage ?

at 100+ jumps I seriouly doubt it.

I think feeling nervous is a natural reaction. After all you aren't just going for a walk in the park. As for me, well I don't get any more nervous than I'm on any other jump. I do make an effort to be extra aware of everything that I'm doing and everything that's happening around me if I'm jumping after a long time.

I was there for one of the airspeed camps this weekend. One of the guys on my team had 7 jumps and was still on AFF when he took up the camp. When he started he was like any AFF student with 7 jumps. By the time he left the camp his basics on body position, body mechanics and the ability to fly his lower body were better than most of the guys with 100 plus jumps that I've seen. Of course besides the tunnel you need a good coach to make that happen. We had airspeed to coach us and they are phenominal to say the least.

Just curious to know, what is the typical wing loading used for base ?
-
Ok ! this might sound like a silly question but I'll ask it anyway ... how does it feel like when you are flying a wing suit ? Also, what after you've made say 40 or 50 jumps and got past the initial thrill. Do you think it get's boring just flying around or is there more to it ?

As a quick mental check while I'm packing I use the following for myself: - Breaks are stowed - lines are straight and control lines run clear from canopy to container. - no fabric between the line groups and control lines. - All lines are in the center of the camopy - SLIDER IS ALL THE WAY UP - Dressing of the canopy has not been distorted when I lay it down. - Pilot chute cocked and catches air - All the slack in the lines has been moved up towards the canopy - Locking stow bands aren't worn out - sufficient ( for me 2 inches ) lines pass through the rubber bands for the locking stow. - There is 11/2 to 2 feet of line remaining after the last stow on the bag. - All stows look organized and clean - pilot chute still cocked and catches air - no bridle exposed. - Cypress still on, cutaway and reserve handles in place, RSL connected.

does Gravity sports, the BASE eqip. manufacturer have a web site. The link that is normally posted for it everywhere does't seem to work.
