  1. Coming across this article http://www.makeithappen.com/spsj/grom2.html I find it a little upsetting that Meyer gets away with generalizing that packers are a contributing factor of mals. If you don't know what I'm talking about, read the short article and you'll catch it in the first section. Meyer: not all packers do the "assembly line" packing that you consider to be a cause of mals. Thank you for the informative article, but a change of wording would be nice.
  2. Well, I guess just add the "Is parachute in container?" to your routine gear check. Don't ask for a pin check, ask for a "chute check"
  3. Something learned here. Thanks for the pic and best wishes to your friend.
  4. I say just one day get up, go to the DZ, and jump... just like that. Let everything else fall into place later.
  5. Are we still talking about skydiving?
  6. Can you link any videos that have it? I can't seem to find the one video where I saw it...
  7. Recently I've been doing some freefly attemps and it's lots of fun. I've always been a sucker for crazy exits, and watching a few FF videos, I saw one where the guy jumps out spinning arms in and then transitions into a head-down or something else... any tips on that kind of exit? I'm posting here because I figure the exit has more to do with "general skydiving" than "freeflying" ... sorry if I'm wrong. Thanks!
  8. any idea the name of this show?
  9. Can you tell us what the prices are? Each jump and the entire course total?
  10. Just a qucik question... I know everyone is different, but at about what jump number you started getting really accurate landings?
  11. Yes! That's it. You're da man.
  12. Are you planning on getting a fullface helmet as soon as you can? I'm not sure if you're allowed to wear one or not where you are, but they pretty much block out all noise from freefall. Also, is the rapid change in air pressure a problem for you?
  13. I'm not trying to be a smart ass, but how is it known that they tried to hold on? Seriously.
  14. Well, I have no idea as to who is saying the truth and who isnt, but all I'm going to say is that this entire thread affects the mentioned DZ more than the jumper. IMO, if you guys really cared about business, you would've never let it get to this point and given him the money, even if breaking the policy, but in the end avoiding this publicity that no serious organization needs. You guys should just take this to private messages... unless it's something that has to do with negligence then I don't think it needs to be posted here.
  15. Don't feel too bad for doing dumb things... as long as those dumb things don't kill anyone :D And take it as experience so the next time you pay more attention.
  16. Let me understand this a bit better... Did you pay for the ENTIRE course? Or are you saying that you want your money back for the 5 jumps you have done? Please explain.
  17. Clouds' shadows is the way I was taught to find the wind direction at alt. Look which way the shadows are moving towards.
  18. I remeber reading a while back about a fighter jet pilot that ejected into a storm. He said he was in the cloud for a very long time, can't really recall how long. Anyways, he was in it so long, going up and down, that the storm carried him a long way off where he was supposed to be. If anyone remembers this story, please let me know, I'd like to read it again. It was on a book that had pilot stories.
  19. Exactly my point... freefall is all the same, isnt it?
  20. Another post that will probably waste time, but since this thread seems dead already... not jumping because you "hate" the plane.... something to think about.
  21. if (gadget_count > mygadget_count) { StealGadgets(skydivingductch); mynewgadget_count = gadget_count + mygadget_count; }
  22. Watching people land relaxes me and gets me in the mood. It's my skydiving turn-on. Try it.
  23. I went over there with a group from Miami, got coached by Kromie. It's amazing the stuff I was able to learn in 45 minutes. I had such a great time that I had to tell the camp organizer Pam Manos, my coach, and the Skyventure staff thank you for such an awesome couple of days.
  24. This is very DZ-specific. Im sure some DZs care, some dont. Just whatever you do, dont do a low turn or something like that just because you wanted to land in the same pattern the person before you did. Once you go on that downwind leg, commit to it and dont change the plan.
