  1. I agree Liberty reminds me of the ads for online universities that advertise a PhD in any subject, six months study, only $999. Or twelve monthly payments, interest free, $199 a month.
  2. Well i skipped through most of that enormously painful video. Ignoring most of the comments on lawyers, which I despise as much as trump. California governor says ventilators promised by Elon Musk never made it to hospitals Separate coverage on the same story from The Hill It appears as if the original story originated from The Sacramento Bee so I'll quote directly from their latest amendment on the story: Two days after The Bee Editorial Board reported on Musk’s ventilator fiasco – and one day after the Associated Press also reported it – Musk protested on Twitter and demanded a positive response from the governor. But if Musk really wanted to clear the air, why didn’t his press office respond to questions from The Bee or the AP? The best time to clear up a “misunderstanding” is before it gets published, but Musk’s office made zero effort. Musk’s office also did not respond to reporters from the venerable Financial Times newspaper in London. On April 2, the FT reported that Musk had apparently purchased and shipped the wrong type of medical device to hospitals in New York. Musk, the FT said, had actually purchased Bilevel Positive Airway Pressure (BPAP) machines, which he plastered with Tesla stickers and shipped to New York. The paper identified the devices as a discontinued BPAP model known as the ResMed S9 Elite. Even worse, according to the FT: “The American Society of Anesthesiologists on Feb. 23 issued guidance warning that CPAP and BPAP machines ‘may increase the risk of infectious transmission.’” A real ventilator can cost up to $50,000, according to the FT. The machines Musk supplied cost around $800. On April 7, the FT wrote that Musk now appears to have delivered at least one “invasive” ventilator to New York... During his daily press conference on Thursday, Newsom was asked about Musk’s tweet demanding clarity. The governor performed a cowardly dodge, refusing to say whether the state had received “ventilators.” Instead, he thanked Musk for providing “resources” – after days of telling reporters the state had not received any. So, were they real ventilators or BPAP machines? Neither Tesla nor Gov. Newsom’s office responded to requests for clarification." I like Elon, Tesla and love SpaceX. He is a genius. But this story is like the Elon Musk and the Thai cave rescue: a tale of good intentions and bad tweets I never expect a accurate representation about anything from a You-Tube video. You need to remember that the AP gets its stories from full time journalists like CNN, The Sacramento Bee, Washington Post and freelancers.
  3. Evidently Jerry Falwell Jr.’s university is facing a legal action for endangering and profiteering off the lives of his students. He has tried to have journalists arrested and lied about infections at Liberty University faculty, students. He ran full page newspaper ads that were false and blamed the national media for his problems
  4. John and Joe seem to know the most about this issue so here is a free pdf book entitled The Conservative Nanny State: How the Wealthy Use the Government to Stay Rich and Get Richer if they have the time and want to dive into the corners of corporate welfare. For trump supporters that seem to lack the drive to understand economics. Here is a overview of how corporate welfare is peddled by current republicans. Its simply worded just for them.Corporate Welfare Lives On and On For those who like to skim: "with the ascendancy of rightwing political parties since the late 1970s and early 1980s. It was argued, as it is today, that if societies accept the standard fare of neoclassical economics – deregulation, flexible labour markets, reducing government intervention, greater competition – then entire populations would be better off. But regardless of what one may think about conventional economic theory, the actual policies put in place by the right are often diametrically opposed to the rhetoric." For trump supporters still peddling "trickle down", the FOX line on "socialism" and other such B.S. A little article on the divergence of wealth caused by republicans over the last 30 years. That in part led to trump.

    covid-19

Good point. Someone sick at home whose health is not deteriorating. Doesn't need to be tested as long as they effectively self isolate. Even if they have C-19. A farmer in N. Dakota who never goes into town, never risks C-19. Asymptomatic c-19 carriers need to be identified by contact tracing. Which is as important as the testing itself. Likely more so. A ambulance driver in N.Y. may need testing every couple days if they lack complete protective apparel. Lack effective cleaning of every part of the ambulance that could be exposed in the course of use.

    covid-19

Everyone doesn't need to be tested. Its a waste of resources. The government of S. Korea was just re-elected even though they has a couple corruption scandals as baggage. Evidently voters recognized that they have done a good C-19 job. 1) Test front-line healthcare workers. 2) Test contacts who may be infected from diagnosed C-19 subjects. The first two most important. 3) Test front-line workers in senior and disabled homecare residences. 4) Test law enforcement, ambulance and fire dept personnel that are regularly interacting with infected persons. 5) Test business and occupations that have the highest contacts with the public. i.e. grocery cashiers, fast food employees with most frequent contact with public.

You do understand scale of economies don't you? Or is that a rhetorical question?
  9. Idiots is the word. They have no idea of the damage that images like that do to gun owners. Makes gun owners look like nutjobs.

Which makes finding active asymptomatic transmitters even more difficult. While simultaneously amplifying the need for expansive testing.

    covid-19

piisfish's idea of testing entire populations regularly would certainly deal with the issue quickly. Its impractical. If you're a lab tech you certainly know that the few labs, likely under 40-50 in the entire world. That are currently working on vaccines don't worry about loosing technicians to testing mills in the current environment. They likely earn well above the average wage for that profession.
  12. Well trump and care in the same sentence is a oxymoron isn't it?
  13. I thought you had the answer? It seems as if you're not the only one. If you have the solution you could start a new franchise business of muscle bound, baseball bat carrying, drone grounding, door knockers
  14. You mean C-182 operators aren't reading the twin otter sections of Trade-a-plane and dreaming of a prosperous post C-19 world for their kids?

    covid-19

You have a poor understanding of the health care system and the specialties within it. Blanket testing serves to identify outliers that may be infectious and unknown to the tracking mechanisms.Lab techs who handle tests themselves don't develop vaccines. Thats reserved for the largest labs with dna sequencing and equipment to create new compounds, etc. Usually 1-3 universities or corporations per western country, plus China. Testing mainly allows the identification and profiling of hidden transmissions in a larger group of people.
  16. Yet for some republicans the debts passed onto every new American from that $23T debt are of no concern. Farmers get massive subsidies knowing their children will inherit those farms. Property developers line their pockets at public expense knowing their intellectually challenged children will be safe from inheritance taxes Other trump supporters could care less because they plan on leaving apartments, revenue homes and DZ operations to their kids. Nation debt, thats for others to worry about.
  17. At that protest one of the major networks was interviewing a woman about 45 yr old. "We have to go back to work" She bends her head to show about six inches of grey hair roots on the top of her head. "We have to get to the hairdressers". Poor thing! While in other countries $3000 fines and six months in jail. Are the results for those who don't understand that segments of society need protections from C-19.Welcome to the world that the "me" president has created.
  18. If trump stopped wasting forty minutes to ninety minutes a day. Every day. With a litany of lies, bulls##t and scapegoating. If he took his "war" seriously instead of an opportunity to pander to his base. Perhaps those that hate him would take a day off. Instead he supplies more and more ammunition. If you've ever gone to a gun range and there is free guns, free ammo. You're not likely to walk away till its all gone.

    covid-19

President Trump cites Nebraska as one of the areas that could rebound more quickly from coronavirus But elections need to be won and every war has casualties. "The only hospital in Grand Island, Neb., is full. The mayor has asked for a statewide stay-at-home order that the GOP governor insists isn’t needed. More than one-third of those tested for coronavirus in the surrounding county are positive — and there aren’t enough tests to go around. Grand Island is the fourth-biggest city in a state President Donald Trump and his top health officials repeatedly name check for keeping the virus at bay without the strict lockdowns 42 other states have imposed." Cue trump's favorite song.

Typical trump supporter defense mechanism. Conservatives have backbones. Conservatives have rule of law philosophies. Conservatives have always believed in balanced budgets. HRC, Obama, global warming, FOX news, fake news, etc. were responsible for the trump presidency. Post election. Conservatives have never supported trump.

    covid-19

This mindset? North Dakota 762,000 people. Saskatchewan and Manitoba combined 2.5 million people. In the last seven days N. Dakota had 114 new cases. Sask and Manitoba combined had 68. Only one of the three had a repubiclan in charge. The geography and demographics are similar for all three. 'There is an active online petition -- signed by 2,800 people -- to try to force Gov. Doug Burgum to issue a stay-at-home order. But Burgum doesn't seem to be reconsidering. "We get to listen to people who think we've locked down too much and people who think we need to lock down more but we would invite those people that signed that petition to really dig into the numbers with us," he said last week. "I mean we moved early and fast on a number of restrictions that is producing this low positive rate today and we moved fast on increasing our testing."
