I would save the cash now and get a Dytter used for $50 and save up for the ProTrack. Then down the road you always have a backup aud.

I am actually planning on camping there Sat. night., oh ya and jumping in the cool weather during the day.

SkyMonkeyOne: Colin must have been about 32 when he went back in right? How is he hanging with the Q-course? Cash is a major consideration, it would be kind of hard to go back to making what I did at 19. And I am a little different than most ex-soldiers in that I like being in the Army, though I did have my days. I grew up as an Armybrat so there wasn't any kind of a shock to the Army lifestyle. I really miss the sense of being, if you know what I mean.

Are any of you former military guys and gals thinking about giving it another run? I was a 67Y Attack Helicopter (Cobra) Crewchief some 10yrs ago and have been tossing the idea of returning to the Army via combat arms maybe 11B then RIP. If they only paid more. Any ideas or comments?

So do many members of our amred forces (I paid for a ton my own supplies and equipment while I served). With the recent events I have thought about returning to the military but I would have to take more than a 50% paycut to risk my life for others. I agree teacher are underpaid but they don't get spit on and protested against(on a regular basis). Plain and simple this world SUCKS!

I was looking to get some feed back about the Chicago area DZ's. I have just completed my AFP at Skydive Chicago so I am a bit bais but I don't want to be narrow minded and miss out. I am not looking to start a my DZ's better than yours thread. Just looking for some insight. THNX

That's awesome. One of the Minn. Vikings had a Viper engine dropped into a 2000 Jeep TJ. There was just barely enough room. That ride would make getting to and from the DZ the most dangerous part of your day for sure.

After a long year (first tandem July 8,2000) I finally graduated from SDC's AFP. Now all I need to do is setup taking the "A" test. I was plugging away doing one jump every 30-45 days (except for the winter - call me a wussy) until the end of May when I could take it no more. In June I did 9 AFP jumps and finished off the last the last 3 this weekend. Now comes the interesting part, the only people at the DZ that I know are manifest and the instructors. Now, I can't wait to save up enough cash to get my own rig. LOL

Way to go dude!!!!!!

Yesterday evening after the memorial service at SDC a group of Ali's friends went up for a memorial jump. They got together and formed a smiley face for her. This is the first person I have known (though not very well - a couple of very short passing conversions) that has passed on while jumping and it has made a lasting impression. I hope it never happens again but chances are it will. I just wanted to thank the people involved in her smiley face jump. It was a nice tribute. Good-bye Ali.

Updated Tuesday, July 10, 2001 Student dies in skydiving accident By RACHEL DENNY — For The Daily Times DAYTON TOWNSHIP — A 22-year-old Pennsylvania woman was killed skydiving Monday. Allison Hoffman of Allentown, a college student, was found dead in remote timber off East 1951 Road in Dayton Township. She is the eighth person to die in an accident since Skydive Chicago moved to Ottawa in 1993. For unknown reasons, Hoffman’s parachute did not inflate, La Salle County Coroner Jody Bernard said Wednesday. An autopsy was scheduled for this morning, she added. The coroner’s office, La Salle County Sheriff’s Department and Federal Aviation Administration are investigating the death, Bernard said. Skydive Chicago was in the news last year when a Missoula, Mont., man died after a mid-air collision with another skydiver. The business was attempting to break the world record for the number of skydivers in a free-fall formation. Three skydivers died within three weeks of each other in 1998. Skydive Chicago Program Director Roger Nelson could not be reached for comment. Hoffman was a culinary student at Johnson and Wales University in Miami, Fla. She was to have graduated in December, said Alicia Medina, academics administrator. When a student dies, the university often will start a collection to help the parents with funeral costs, she said. “Usually we will wait until the parents call us,” Medina said. “We don’t want to intrude. We usually do take a collection to help out the parents.” Here is another article: Parachutist falls to death in Ottawa OTTAWA -- A 22-year-old woman parachutist was found dead Monday evening in a remote timber area about three miles northeast of Ottawa, according to the LaSalle County sheriff's and coroner's offices. Allison Hoffman of Ottawa, who was originally from Pennsylvania, was skydiving when her parachute failed to open. Hoffman was pronounced dead at 7:18 p.m. Monday in a remote area off East 1951st Road in Dayton Township. Hoffman, who is employed by Skydive Chicago of Ottawa, was skydiving on her day off, police said. Sheriff's police were notified of the accident shortly before 6:40 p.m. Monday. My condolences go out to her family and friends.
