It's pretty far way and hard to tell. If it were up closer then it would be upsetting to some. But maybe that's just me. I do agree. It didn't bother me because of how far away it was and because of the TV voiceover. I just know that some people would be bothered by such a thing and figured a disclaimer wouldn't be a bad idea. I really don't know what I'm talking about.

Thanks for responding to the 'Perris info' that others have given. I read MB38's post and thought, "Huh? My altimeter must be reading wrong every week..." ltdiver Now I'm thinking mine is. I really don't know what I'm talking about.

If you find that you're having difficulty breathing... scream. I really don't know what I'm talking about.

Unless you want to see a video of somebody going in, DO NOT click on the link. I really don't know what I'm talking about.

I've found that 13,000-13,500 AGL is my average at Perris. The lowest I've gotten out was about 12,500 AGL on the second pass. As was said earlier in the thread, Perris is about 1,500 feet above sea level... so any higher would require oxygen. I was there for the POPS 110-way and JFTC and [as was previously mentioned] oxygen was used in the planes on those days [for those jumps]. The rest of the day, fun jumpers got out at the usual 13,500 w/o oxygen. The presence of the supplemental oxygen systems in the plane was only for the big ways. Maybe they get out higher on different occasions -- look at my jump numbers, I'm not experienced -- but 13,000-13,500 is what I've found is normal at Perris. I really don't know what I'm talking about.

That is a very good idea. I think I will look futher into that solution. You could be in for a deep discount. Whoohoo! I really don't know what I'm talking about.

There's a Myth Busters episode on www.skydivingmovies.com that discusses a flight attendant's safe landing in the tail of an aircraft. At some ridiculous altitude the plane she was in disintegrated and she fell to earth still buckled into the tail section. It landed perfectly so as to absorb the impact before crushing her... and she walked away. I really don't know what I'm talking about.

My goodness, those things actually work. I really don't know what I'm talking about.

I remember seeing somebody's website a while back... www.deadmike.com He went in on the runway during the WFFC in 1997 after a parachute collision. Not a true bounce survival by its literal definition, but he survived the 80 foot fall. I really don't know what I'm talking about.

The only potential problem there is moving into High Definition work. HDV will be fine on an old machine, but my old 867MHz G4 was doing a pretty good job of choking on real HD [1920x1080]. Don't just go out and get yourself a Mac mini. If money becomes the issue, get an older G4 tower... preferably in excess of 1GHz... dual if you have the cash. Then just max it out. My 867 has 1.2TB of internal storage, 1.5GB of RAM and is plenty fast for serious SD editing. My dual 2.7 G5 is my HD/2K/4K composite/colorist machine [7GB RAM and it's connected to a 6TB RAID]. Depends how far you want to take video work. I really don't know what I'm talking about.

Catch-22, you need a computer to get first hand experience... Friends and stores. Sit down at a friend's computer and root around. Ask them if they've had any problems/what they like/don't like. Go to the Apple Store, talk to some guys there and play with the video editing apps. Maybe sit in on one of the classes. Go to a comparable PC store and do the same. If you ask a PC user about a Mac or a Mac user about a PC, you're going to get a biased opinion. Opinions are like assholes: everybody has one and most of them stink. Form your own! I really don't know what I'm talking about.

Macs are the standard for video editing, hands down. You'll also be free of viruses, popup windows, spyware, adware and general Windows hiccups. But if you ask a Mac guy, they'll say buy a Mac. If you ask a PC guy, they'll say buy a PC. Get some first hand experience before you make your choice. I really don't know what I'm talking about.

Cleared for solo at Perris means that I'm allowed to rent non-student gear from Square One, manifest myself, pack for myself [IF I've taken the packing class and been given the green light to pack] and go up and come down unassisted. I have to buy jump tickets from the school rather than manifest, but it's my decision [and responsibility] to manifest myself. I cannot land in the grass landing area until I have a license. Obviously, I can't do anything other than a solo unless I'm doing a coached jump. I really don't know what I'm talking about.

I feel that the DZ should be responsible when we're talking about a student. The student didn't pack the malfunction, they simply recognized the mal and saved their life according to what they were taught. The chop is the DZ's fault [the packer's fault] and the student is out of that loop. Off student status, it should be the responsibility of the individual who rented the equipment. It's their job to return the equipment in the condition that they received it in. I really don't know what I'm talking about.

Video has been removed at request of owner and his lawyer. I think the point has been made pretty clear... this video isn't for public viewing anymore. I really don't know what I'm talking about.

Here it is. I really don't know what I'm talking about.

Good point on the price, FCP is $1,000. If price is the issue, go with Final Cut Express HD. It has a shocking feature set when compared to something like Premiere or Vegas and is only $300. I really don't know what I'm talking about.

if you read the whole thread you'll find a link http://www.sharkle.com/?a=video&id=2578 Not downloadable, unfortunately. I'd love it if somebody who has the original file could post that for downloadage. If somebody sends it to me, I'll host it. I really don't know what I'm talking about.

If the PC bridle had something similar to a Collins' lanyard, I think it might work out. That is, if the PC accidentally deploys, it takes the cutaway cable with it... and thus the camera. I really don't know what I'm talking about.

"subconscious control of repetitive tasks" doesn't sound as good as "muscle memory" I really don't know what I'm talking about.
