  1. Wow, that does suck. I'm sorry that it all went like that, glad you got your money back. This isn't the first complaint I've heard about Apple's phone service lately - I was just talking with JC about some troubles he had yesterday. I've always had good luck with their service, but I haven't called them in years. I hope it isn't a new trend. I really don't know what I'm talking about.
  2. In theory, no. There are factors outside of a jumper's control that could initiate linetwists... even with a "perfect" packjob and a stable deployment body position. I won't comment on how much of an influence these other factors [think turbulence] could have [my guess: generally negligible] because I simply don't know. Either way, chaos theory prevails. I really don't know what I'm talking about.
  3. LANC? I really don't know what I'm talking about.
  4. I did know he's a skydiver, I've briefly spoken with him about it in the past. That discussion plus discussions I had at NAB with other RED team members give me a good feeling that this will be a freefall-happy camera. There's a lot of good information on the camera at www.dvxuser.com - I've been lurking there since the project was first announced. It's an exciting time. I really don't know what I'm talking about.
  5. For those who don't follow the camera market, RED introduced more information about the RED ONE at IBC yesterday. They screened the first footage [4K] and introduced several more accessories [updated RED CAGE, the RED-RAIL for handheld work and an 18-85mm F2.8 PL-mount zoom lens to be priced under $10,000]. While 4K stills haven't been posted online, there is one lower-resolution capture here. It's a downsized still frame from a 4.5K image [11.4 megapixels]. For those not familiar with the RED project at all, here are the basics: It's a 7lb digital camera body capable of shooting 4K+ footage. Currently, 4K cameras are unavailable for purchase - renting such a camera will run you $3,000+ per day plus storage. The RED body will be available for purchase for $17,500 [people estimate current 4K offerings as cresting $500,000 in price]. Jim Jannard [Oakley founder, billionaire] started the company with the goal of bringing true full-frame 4K digital cinema to the masses. Don't expect to be shooting tandems with it any time soon, obviously. Still, the small form factor paired with a 7lb weight and onboard flash-based storage... add lens and battery and it'd still be possible to wear on one's head. It's more for the Joes and Normans at this point, but it's exciting nonetheless. Either way, it will soon be possible to have a full 4K-capable system with lenses, batteries, storage and accessories for under $50,000. Yesterday just moved us a step closer to that goal. Stay tuned... RED I really don't know what I'm talking about.
  6. Jump them and decide. I really don't know what I'm talking about.
  7. Confirming: the graphics card is user-upgradeable - it uses the rising MXM standard. Having opened several Intel iMacs myself, I can confirm your post - it's not hard to open. I really don't know what I'm talking about.
  8. True, but one must consider the kind of person who would decide to upgrade the graphics card in an iMac... they're probably handy with a screwdriver around computers. I really don't know what I'm talking about.
  9. No idea if that's true or not, though I doubt it considering the iMac's past and nonstandard shape. I really don't know what I'm talking about.
  10. If you bought it from Apple you can return it within 14 days of purchase. If it's open, there's a 10% restocking fee. For CompUSA, check their website or your receipt for their return policies. The fact that there is a "newer" version of the same computer should not come into play with regards to their willingness to accept a return. I really don't know what I'm talking about.
  11. It also has the option for 3GB of RAM, a 500GB hard drive and a 256MB graphics card... It's a damn fast machine that will easily take the place of a Mac Pro for all but the most professional professionals. I really don't know what I'm talking about.
  12. Geez. Any chance of a longer video showing the whole jump? Potentially higher quality? That's just amazing. I really don't know what I'm talking about.
  13. What audible are you guys using that allows to set in 100' increments? I really don't know what I'm talking about.
  14. "Oh my god, you skydive???" "Yeah." "Ohhh, I've wanted to do that FOREVER!!!" "Ok." "Can you take me?" "Nope, but you can make a jump if you want." "No, I'd be to scared." "Ok. Well, if you ever do, gimme a call." That's as far as it goes with me. If they decide to make a jump, I'll have them go on a day when I'm jumping so I can get on the same load as them. I really don't know what I'm talking about.
  15. Get the serial number of the rig and contact the manufacturer. They'll be able to tell you their measurement. I really don't know what I'm talking about.

What kind of plane? Are you diving for stepping off backwards? Fill out your profile. I really don't know what I'm talking about.
  17. I dig your site, great WS pictures on there. www.Skydiving-Galleries.com, in case you haven't seen it. I really don't know what I'm talking about.
  18. It's my understanding that it hasn't shipped yet. I really don't know what I'm talking about.
  19. Try it out of a plane with a reserve and many thousands of feet if you want to be "safe". I really don't know what I'm talking about.
  20. sure, uh huh... I miss those comics! I really don't know what I'm talking about.
  21. Ironically, I thought of that while sitting on the toilet just after making my post I really don't know what I'm talking about.
  22. I think I'll be there on Sunday but certainly not for the record. I really don't know what I'm talking about.
  23. You can get out through the "butt" hole [as you described, requires sitting] or - depending on how you wear your chest strap - between the MLWs. I would fix the leg straps and consider velcro for the chest strap. It's often surprising just how much pull force is required to unhook velcro in a lateral direction. If you have doubt, you could probably sew two chest straps out of type 8 webbing; one directly above the other. Cover their *entire length* with velcro and your potential problems should be solved. Of course, I'd do some research on the exact pull force that velcro can resist when pulled in that direction. Does anybody have any idea about how much force is put on a chest strap on, say, a four-second delay slider-down deployment? Ok, that's a tangent. Through the hole where your butt is or between the MLWs. [edit:] Here's a video that migliore posted a while ago showing how to get out of his rig in the way I barely described. It'd be tricky, but you could get back in in the same way. Requires a relatively new version of Quicktime. I really don't know what I'm talking about.

Here's a repeat of a question I put in my email to Øyvind: One question: are the arm-wings attached in any particular way? The red fabric around the bicep appears to attach to the body of the jumper with velcro or something similar there... was it not attached on this jump [but it was in the wind tunnel?] or does it somehow "connect" once in the proper body position? To clarify, I'm referring to the yellow/gold "velcro" under the armpit. And, of course, what kind of performance are we talking about here? What did you clear on the ground by pull time? I really don't know what I'm talking about.
  25. Download some nice 1080p from www.apple.com/trailers for some fun. I really don't know what I'm talking about.
