North Korea: Two Missiles Test Fired, A Third Failed

Agreed. They believe Kim Jong Il is a living god, and revere him as such. Pretty scary stuff. No mention of the launchings yet on the NK news site. We are all engines of karma -
Vatican vows to expel stem cell scientists from Church
StreetScooby replied to StreetScooby's topic in Speakers Corner
But, he didn't forbade private funds. That's why many states are funding large investments in this technology (e.g., California). My concern is the Fed's will make any research into this illegal. When good things start happening, it's going to be interesting who gets the money. The states funding it? We are all engines of karma -

I thought the joke was pretty funny. Made me laugh. You're call as to what to do. Here's some options analysis: 1) Call her back a) She accepts another date. Be prepared to cut away, even in mid date. b) She doesn't. How do you deal with rejection? 2) Don't call her back And don't think about it again. We are all engines of karma

Vatican vows to expel stem cell scientists from Church
StreetScooby replied to StreetScooby's topic in Speakers Corner
I'm struggling a little here with your replies, Micro. First, let me say that I'm not Catholic. I was raised in a fundamental Southern Baptist church in the deep south. My mother was Church Of Christ who decided to become a Southern Baptist. I went to church 3 times a week (Sunday morning, Sunday night, and Wednesday night) for a very long time. I respect your beliefs, but I may end up saying some things here that could offend you because my beliefs differ with yours in some pretty important areas to me. Mainly surrounding the role of science in the evolution of mankind. Why do you say that? If this science reaches fruition, the body aspect for all of us could become commodities. The thing that makes us unique is our free will/soul. God gives us that. God also gives us an incredible brain. So many times now the Catholic church has been proven wrong in limiting the pursuit of knowledge. Science and God DO NOT HAVE TO CONFLICT. Why does the Church keep making it so? There's some willfull ignorance in there somewhere, and I doubt it's on God's part. It just amazes me that the Catholic church deems itself the voice of God on this planet. It is the height of arrogance in my opinion. Not any more. Mankind has used it's brain power to success, yet again. What about knowledge for the sake of knowledge? There is absolute beauty there. Why not pursue knowledge? So, God being omnipotent and everything, how have we done that? Nothing personal, but this phrase always gets my dander up. Exactly what do you mean by this? God looks human? When I was 16 years old, my goal in life was to be a Southern Baptist minister. I LIVED MY BELIEFS EVERY DAY, WITHOUT FAIL! Then, one day, I dared to question. Went to college, learned thermodynamics. Spent a long time seeking a new understanding of God with that basis. And I found it. The English language is FAR from perfect. In no way can we expect to describe everything that is God in our language. Hell, I don't even view God as a noun. In my current understanding, it looks much better as a verb. I emphased the word current because my knowledge will most certainly grow in this life. I'm going to allow it to. The soul is. It's not created at conception. It's already there waiting to merge with the physical body. I very much agree with you on the family aspect. Children need to be loved and nurtured, and once you produce one, it's your job in this life to see that happens. No execuses allowed, not even any reasons. We are all engines of karma -

If I think about this, I get scared. Enforced ignorance must count as a sin somewhere in the greater scope of things. We are all engines of karma -

Vatican vows to expel stem cell scientists from Church
StreetScooby replied to StreetScooby's topic in Speakers Corner
I can't believe the Catholic church is going to do this. It leads me to believe we'd all be living in mud huts if no one ever questioned their reasoning. Let's hope our bible thumping politicians don't legislate us away from this next great technology. From the NYTimes: ================================= Scientists who carry out embryonic stem cell research and politicians who pass laws permitting the practice will be excommunicated, the Vatican said yesterday. "Destroying human embryos is equivalent to an abortion. It is the same thing," said Cardinal Alfonso Lopez Trujillo, head of the Pontifical Council for the Family. "Excommunication will be applied to the women, doctors and researchers who eliminate embryos [and to the] politicians that approve the law," he said in an interview with Famiglia Christiana, an official Vatican magazine. Excommunication forbids Catholics from receiving communion, assisting in any Church duties, and sometimes from having a Church burial. But the threat was shrugged off yesterday by Italy's leading expert on cloning, Prof Cesare Galli, of the Laboratory of Reproductive Technologies in Cremona, who was the first scientist to clone a horse. Prof Galli likened the Vatican to the Taliban and added: "I can bear excommunication. I was raised as a Catholic, I share Catholic values, but I am able to make my own judgment on some issues and I do not need to be told by the Church what to do or to think. "I will be, together with Elena Cattaneo [a scientist working in the University of Milan] the first to be affected by the excommunication and then there are two other labs that I know using imported embryonic stem cells." The research is opposed by the Catholic Church because it involves destroying embryos. This occurs at the point when they consist of about 100 to 200 cells and the so-called inner cell mass is removed. These stem cells can grow indefinitely and turn into any of the body's 200 cell types. Scientists believe research making use of the cells could eventually yield treatments for a range of diseases, including diabetes, heart disease and Parkinson's. The Vatican's tough stance on the issue came as the Pope prepared to visit Valencia for the fifth annual world conference on the Catholic family. Spain passed a law permitting embryonic stem cell research two years ago to the dismay of the Church. An Italian senator, Paola Binetti, a member of Opus Dei and a prominent campaigner for Catholic rights, also spoke against the Church's line. "I am upset and stunned," she said. "It is a mistake to give out the idea that God is angry with Man because he is not in agreement with him." Cardinal Trujillo said it was not just Spain which had "thrown out the fundamental laws of nature" but also Belgium, Holland, the Scandinavian countries and France. He did not mention Britain, which is at the forefront of embryonic stem cell research.Belgium's divided State. We are all engines of karma -

All - it is what it is. QED. Talking about history in the current context WILL NOT solve this issue. Both sides have their own history that they claim is inviolate. Wonder what they could talk about instead? I personally have no idea. We are all engines of karma

Are the chemical lasers operational, yet? For a hoot, yall should check out the NK's official website: http://www.kcna.co.jp/index-e.htm It would be funny, if it wasn't so scary. I remember reading an article on this website many years ago. It claimed Kim Jong Il (the son, whatever his name is) played golf for the first time. Scored 13 holes in one. And they were serious.
