  1. Thanks for the input. Questions: 1) Are there always "triggers"? 2) How does the doctor figure out the triggers? 3) Can you have a bad asthma attack in your sleep? We are all engines of karma
  2. The article does not do justice to its topic. I lived in Edinburgh, Scotland for two years. Roundabouts are a very effective traffic control mechanism. We are all engines of karma
  3. My 40 year old wife has recently come down with this. Not sure why it's taken this long to develop asthma? Any thoughts? What can we do about it, without relying on doctors too much? Can you die from asthma? We are all engines of karma
  4. Just curious. Same situation for me, though I'm not a liberal. Thus, the question. We are all engines of karma

  7. Newton's Laws weren't a fraud. They applied in that context which most people can view with their own eyes. We are all engines of karma

  13. In practical terms, that can be very hard, especially if you have a family with whom you hope to eat dinner with at night. We are all engines of karma
  14. Lucky has a point here. Prior to 9/11, I had my own company doing work in the city. After 9/11, the work I do went to India. It took 2 years for that market to start to turn around. I paid a HUGE amount of money in taxes, etc., from my business. When I was flat out broke for two years, I couldn't even collect unemployment because I was a "business owner". Yes, I know, I took a risk. And it didn't work out. Both my wife and I went without insurance (and many other things) for two years. We are all engines of karma
  15. Read a very interesting article this morning. About 25% of the enlisted men in the Pakistani army are Pashtuns. About 12% of their officers are Pashtuns. In the last dozen top "generals", 4 have been Pashtuns. The Pakistani army risks an internal revolt if they keep trying to push into Wazuristan(sp?), which is Pashtun. We are all engines of karma
  16. Turkey won't allow that. Yep. That's opening a can of worms. I'm not disagreeing with you, but it would turn very ugly. Oil is now the wealth of nations. That's one of my major bones with the Bush administration. Good people have been voting with their feet. Not a good sign. We are all engines of karma
  17. Gravitymaster rightfully pointed out that my reply to his reply was off topic. We are all engines of karma

  20. Ah, this ain't the answer. 1) Who builds the computer models? 2) Who decides the models are "right"? Way too much room for abuse there, and it'll be "hidden" abuse. Every people system must have multiple/ sets of eyes involved in order for the system to work. Removing "eyes" from this problem is not the answer. We are all engines of karma
  21. Here's the problem I see with a means test. If you're in the "middle" and want to accept aid, accepting that aid will still drive you to the the "lower" end. It won't allow you and your family to maintain the standard of living that's been built within your family. We are all engines of karma
  22. Very interesting thoughts. Thanks for sharing them. While I am a capitalist, I'm not convinced that capitalism as practiced in its current form in the US is a long term stable system. I think we have the best system in practice in the world today, but the keyword here is today. We are all engines of karma
  23. Milton Friedman dies, and they're already trying to unlearn his teaching. We are all engines of karma
  24. The thing that has struck me with this article (and the others I've already read on the topic) is, they are ready to collect the money with no plan to spend the money. Boondoggle in the making. We are all engines of karma
  25. Clearly, this is a hard problem. Any ideas? We are all engines of karma
