Thanks. So, basically, it's the Doppler effect with photons, is what I'm reading. We are all engines of karma

The company I work for recently went through a hiring phase for new college graduates. I looked at all of them, each an Ivy league graduate, and thought to myself "How much money do you owe?" A friend of mine, who is doing very well there, is 28 and went to SUNY Buffalo. He's making more money than they'll ever make. We are all engines of karma

A train is going the speed of light. It turns it's headlights on. A person is waiting on the platform where the train is going. Does that person see the headlights first? We are all engines of karma

Agreed. Especially once western democracies start paying their own way. Uhm, we'll have to agree to disagree on that one. Especially once the bulk of Islamic nations have educated their people. How long do you think that's going to take? In the meantime, see above. We are all engines of karma

There's innocent people at GITMO? Did they happen to have guns in their hands pointing them at our troops, or something else? We are all engines of karma

Agreed.

Absolutely correct. NO's mayor left the buses in the depot, and they got flooded, too. Massive failure of local govt, and it's been going on for decades. We are all engines of karma

You're right. Those folks are pretty much taking care of themselves. We are all engines of karma

This is ridiculous. My 10 year old daughter tried out for the "traveling soccer team" in my town last year. She didn't make it. She was unbelievably upset, and we all got to deal with it as a family. This year, the coach of the team approached my wife and said some of the kids on the traveling team weren't cutting it, and wanted my daughter to try again. Why? Because she didn't quit and went out and kept making her own way. Kids need to realize that. It's an essential part of living in America. We are all engines of karma

Our health care is pretty good, as it is. Do you mean cheaper health care? Let's take out the middle man that brings no value to the process. Critical in my opinion. But, why is the current education system failing? Teachers must cope with disruptive kids from dysfunctional families in the classroom, thus catering to the lowest common denominator. What do we do about that? As I've said several times now, let western democracies pay their own way. Huge amount of money WE can save simply doing that. What NYPD pays is absurdly low. I simply cannot fathom how that decision was made. But then again, you should see what cops outside of NYC make. LTs get $125K in the burbs, and they make that for the rest of their life, with free medical to boot. So, we ain't doing too bad on that point. When I advocate less government, I'm advocating less instrusive laws in my personal life. Of course we need competent, dedicated policemen, firemen, EMTs, water guys, etc. Speaking of this, why aren't the floods in the midwest on the front page every day"? Because those people are taking care of themselves. Because we're spending too much "defense" money protecting those other western democracies that really need to pay their own way. As Americans, you should work and feed not only yourself, but your family. That's fundamental. Don't tax me to feed somebody else's family. I have my own family to feed. As Americans, you should work and take care of your family. Don't tax me to pay health care for somebody else's family. I have my own family to provide health care for. I work my ass off, and I've taken huge risks in life compared to the vast majority of people I know. If and when that risk returns rewards, I'll be happy to become a philanthropist. We're capitalists. Not socialists. Not communists. Capitalism is the best system out there. Is it perfect? Absolutely not. Can we do better? Yes. How do we do better? Let the pendulum keep swinging, and keep the thing from toppling over. How do we do that? People educate themselves, get involved, and work hard. Take care of their own families. If you can't take care of a family, don't have one. Agreed. Instead of having our govt bailing out subprime mortgages, let's make sure people know what they're getting into (i.e., EDUCATE them). But, these people need to want to be educated. A critical rule in capitalistic societies is Caveat Emptor. I teach my kids that. I also teach them Quid Pro Quo. I also teach them personal responsibility, work hard, be a good person. Critical aspects to OUR country's success. Not every parent does that. If the parent didn't do that, then I could see where maybe our govt can help that process. We are all engines of karma

NRA to file suit TODAY vs. Chicago
StreetScooby replied to warpedskydiver's topic in Speakers Corner
More on this Daley article... This guy wants to take care of you himself... Parent with guns in their homes need to educate the kids about such things. It's a culture thing. Why can't law abiding citizens protect themselves in their homes? There's a distinct lack of education happening somewhere in the streets of Chicago. Who's fault is that? Actually, it falls on the backs of people in their homes to keep their homes safe. Its up to the local cops to make the other places safe. How many of those calls involved legally registered handguns? Apparently none Again, no trust for law abiding citizens in Chicago? They actually think registered gun owners are going to start running amok in the street? Guess so, because the only experience they can possible have is all those unregistered gun owners running amok in the street. This guy has his head in his ass. People can now legally keep guns in their homes. Nothing I've seen says you can start packing in the street at will. We are all engines of karma
