  2. This is not an Official Dropzone Event but they are supporting it. On September 11th we plan on making a memorial jump honoring those who gave there lives in the War on Terror, from the Civilians who died in the twin towers, to the Military members currently taking fire in the sands of Iraq protecting our freedom everyday. The current plan is to make this jump (or jumps) up of Active Duty and prior service military. Active Duty Military are asked to bring some type of dress uniform. Please join us for a weekend of fun and remembrance at Carolina Sky Sports. For more information contact LCPL Hinman Darin M. A few of my Favorites... The Marines were backing-up LAPD on a call that someone had broken into a store. At the scene, the cop told the Marines to "cover" him as he approched the store (to police, "cover" means to point your weapons in the direction of the threat, to Marines it means lay down a base of fire!). The Marines promptly laid down a base of fire. The Marines fired 178 rounds before they stopped shooting. The thief, probably a little scared at this point, called 911 and reported, "They're shooting at me!". 8. Build your own computer. It will cost you much less then buying from Dell. Which means more money for Skydiving right.......... I am sure you know some very capable computer geeks at your drop zone. Most would be very willing to build a computer for you if you give them all the parts that they need and maybe like 50 bucks or something. You could Ideally build a decent computer for less then 1 grand. Of course this is all depending on what you want to use your computer for. I built my gaming computer for 1,200 dollars it had 2.2ghz processor Nvidia Gforce 6200 graphics card, 2 gigs of RAM and 160Gigs of hard drive space. This only ran me 800 dollars the monitor was 400 (19" flat screen LCD). Granted the down side to this is that you won't have a warenty on your computer. Then again if your want a lop top then you might want to just order that from Dell because they are much harder to build. 9. Hmm a lot of great tips I will definetly have a better idea of how to handle the situation if this were to happen again. Hopefully not like you said I am glad I am here to learn from it and will make sure the share this with the others that I jumped with sunday. 10. Everything is going fine during free fall, nice big waive off at 4.5 and my pilot chute leaves my hand at 4. Canopy opening, slider all most all the way down when I hear someone else deploying look up and they are coming down right in front of me (maybe 50 feet). I pull the right rear riser down to my ear and turn away best I can. As I glance under my left arm she is maybe 50-100 feet away and 200 feet below. Sounds like my jump on Sunday a little too close for comfort. 11. 12. nobody in this jump minus the cameraman and coach had more then 100 jumps The most terrifying words in the English language are: ‘I'm from the government and I'm here to help’. ~Ronald Reagan 30,000,000 legal firearm owners killed no one yesterday.
  13. I had a little concerning jump this weekend. I'll start from the beginning. It was a 5-way jump for a skills camp we all lined up in the door and did a diving exit. I was the last person to reach the group in free fall; unfortunately I think do to being tired (my 5th jump for the day a lot for someone with only 38 jumps) I was unable to slow my fall rate enough to get with the group. Not for lack of trying I was cupping really hard and not going anywhere. So I finally gave up after having no luck. I observed the group from below, maybe 500 to 1000 feet, I could not really tell. Our pre-determined break off point was 4500 AGL so I waited till 4500 to see where the center was so that I could track in the appropriate direction (away from the center). Keep in mind there was a cameraman who was pulling in the middle. I tracked for about 5 seconds so as to make sure there was plenty of distance between us. I waved and pulled and finally came under canopy at 2800 feet. As I am looking at the canopy to check it there goes one of my group in freefall not 20 feet in front of me. I had a very nice view of their wave as they passed me. I later approached them and asked if they saw me. They had no idea they came so close in fact they never even saw me. So I guess I am just trying to figure out what I can do different in the future to help avoid this type of problem? Does anyone have any thoughts or comments that might help out? 14. Hey there are no ex-Marines and yea I was thinking about trying to get an all marine jump team together once I get a little more experience. Maybe next year. Any Marines looking? 15. I wonder if the cell phone ban has anything to do with line of sight comunication. I believe that this is why we need cell tower to transmit our calls because the signal range only can only extend as far at the earths curve becomes apparent (i.e. Independence Day). If this is the case then in a plane a cell phone would have a much larger signal area. Of course I am just making stuff up so I could be totaly wrong here. 23. Ok just to put this thread to rest even more. This incident did happen at a DZ in North Carolina, infact I was told by one of the long time jumpers at my DZ that it happened there. And as someone mentioned it was because he was wearing the old camera equipment and though he had a rig on. A very sad day when someone dies, so as far as the video goes I don't think I would want to see it, just learn from his mistake and remember to check your gear and keep and eye out for others.
