Lately I've been on a Chipotle Tabasco kick. As far as Dave's Insanity goes, the trick is to hold back a bit... hard as that is for hot sauce fans. A drop of that stuff really truly does go a long way. Being on the verge of 40 myself , but having only been in the sport for about 2-1/2 years, I really don't tend to look at jumpers in terms of their age. Rather, I tend to look at mindset and the "generation" that they come from. Usually the term I throw around is "old school" & "new school". Simplistic, yes, but it gets the general idea across. Labels inherently pigeon-hole people so I view them as merely a way to convey an idea. I usually describe myself as "old school" in my attitude toward the sport and community... since I was trained by someone I consider somewhat old school in his thinking as well... 460. But I also tend to like "new school" jumping styles, such as aerials and wingsuit BASE. My personal philosophy is to know and appreciate where the sport has been, but also try to be at least a little part of, and a positive influence upon, where the sport is going. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon

We had some very qualified technical advisors along to assess pretty much anything you can think of. I just want to personally thank the organizers for their hard work and hospitality. The plan was a great one that everyone felt very good about. The jumpers that attended were all top notch. If the weather had cooperated, it would have happened. But even though the jump didn't happen, I personally felt the trip was a success. I got to see some old friends again and make some new ones. And for me, at least, jumps are just icing on the cake. As I was packing today I had something happen that I hadn't seen before. So I figured I'd post a safety PSA for everyone. Stowed & set my toggles as I normally do & proceeded to pack. As I normally do, I pulled my canopy onto my container, lifted up the canopy and re-adjusted the position of my risers. This time out of the corner of my eye I noticed something that didn't look quite right, and on closer inspection it turns out that my toggle, which is the pin/snap type, had unsnapped and the pin had come out of it's stow. So the only thing keeping the brake line in place was the pin through the brake loop above the keeper ring. Needless to say, after I muttered "Holy crap", I restowed the pin, re-snapped the toggle and re-tensioned the brake line. But if I hadn't been looking all that closely I could have completely missed it. My guess is that when I was pulling the canopy over to the container the toggle got caught on something and came unsnapped. So from here on, I for one will be double & triple checking the pins settings on the risers after placing the canopy on the container. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon

HARDCORE EQ2 junkie here. Main is a female Dark Elf necromancer named Bubbles (lvl 27) & alt is a male Ratonga Druid (lvl 15.. working to Warden) named Mouse. OK, Slap, so what exactly was fuxored in tradeskilling? And what got nerfed? Maybe I was immune due to being a healer and a Necro, but I really haven't heard of much getting severely whacked by the nerf bat. I saw the screenies for WoW and they looked too cartoonish for me. From what I'm gathering from unbiased reviews, WoW is more friendly to the causal gamer. Easier to level and solo. To get anywhere in EQ2 you pretty much HAVE to group... and yes the grinds get to be hell after level 20 or so. But I still enjoy it. It's kind of like pornography... I can't tell you exactly what it is, but I know it when I see it. Ones that come to mind, at least in my opinion are... "Chicks dig it." (News to me) "People will think I'm cool." (Wrong reason to do just about anything... and in any event, no, they'll just think you're nuts) "I want to be 'extreme'." (Again, wrong reason to do just about anything, but if you REALLY want to be extreme, take up bull riding) Basically if you're doing this for any sort of external admiration or approval, you're doing it for the wrong reason. You won't get either anyway. I'd also point out that what may be a "right" reason for one person may be totally the wrong reason for another.
