It's kind of ironic your writing this isn't it John???? We thought the same thing about you when you blazed onto the scene. Not wanting to listen to more experienced jumpers, jumping well established sites in the day with no concern for other jumpers that worked hard in opening up the sites, taking people who should not be BASE jumping yet, jumping sites outside of your experience level, "teaching" when you had few jumps and little knowledge of the sport, etc. We tried to talk to you on more than one occasion about your antics but you readily blew us off just like your 'student' has done to you. I guess not being selective in who YOU take on a jump is coming back to bite you. It sucks doesn't it?????? My suggestion, which is probably worthless in your opinion, is to talk to him again and make it clear about what your upset about and how he can and will hurt someone if he continues his ways. Explain about the potential lawsuits he faces when someone under his 'supervision' goes in, maybe that will control his ego a little. Talk to him don't scold him, that will only make him put up his defences and then your fighting a losing battle. Ask him why he feels the need to 'teach' when he doesn't fully grasp the sport and the dangers. What is he looking to get out of it??? Ego stroking? Also it might help if you are more selective in who you decide to 'teach'. just my .02 Good luck it's a tough battle. 570

I think you can get around the personal guarantee by putting a substantial amount of money down, say 30-40%. Damn.... I just missed an auction on Ebay for a 700+ft. freestander. That would be a real nice BASE site! If we only had the $450,000 asking price Anyone want to split it?? 570

There have been many towers for sale on Ebay. One guy has them already disassembled and ready for transport. Recently he had a 475' freestander ready to go for $85,000. I'll have to agree with 428 that these are nice jumping platforms, we have more than a few around my area that are sweet to flik from. Oh, the guy I've been watching is in TX....he also at one time had a 700-800 footer with an elevator that no one bid on... maybe he still has it?? I'm ready to pitch in my share 570

How are you stowing your toggles? Can ya take a picture for us as you are pulling on the brake line? I'm having a hard time seeing what your saying

let me ask this question since I only have maybe 20 jumps from the Perrine and in no way am an expert on the heights involved but is it safe to do a slider down floater PCA off that bridge? How much steel do you have to pass before you have clear airspace in front of you? I would seem to me that the more logical choice would be to face away from the bridge (cameras) when doing PCA's. Maybe I'm wrong though?? 570

Not sure what your point is here. During my FJC with Vertigo I PCA'ed Jimmy. Why did he let me PCA him? So that I knew how to PCA people when it was time to set me free. I think the point is to have a person who knows what to do on a PCA. It looks to me neither person directly involved knew what they were doing. I guess no one watching saw anything wrong either....sad! I don't see anything wrong with teaching people the right way to do things no matter how many jumps they have. The key here is doing it the "Right Way". I think Jimmy might be a little more knowledgable on these things too, so he would therefore be a better teacher. It's really rather humerous watching people who have little or no knowlegde of BASE and parachuting trying to teach people the "right way" to do things (blind leading the blind). I think it's more an ego thing than anything else. These people think that since they have 'survived' a few jumps they are now experts and can pass their superior knowledge to BASE wannabees so they can feel important. I do feel sorry for the students since they don't know any better (although they should if they value there life!) Eventually someone will get hurt or killed or a site will be burned because they had inferior teachers who didn't understand or failed to try to understand all of the little things in BASE that will make you an OLD RESPECTED BASE JUMPER not a Stupid looking DEAD one. stay safe, 570

Doesn't this video beg the question "Why would you want to tow your pilot chute in with you?" Looks like he was having a pilot chute in tow for about 2-2.5 seconds. Was it supposed to be a PCA or did the holder fuck up and toss it behind the Rad Jumper? But then again why would you do a PCA facing the bridge? Do these jumpers not know about the snatch force it takes to open a container? I would hate to see such an awesome jumper go in like this for a few photos of, as 515 said, old stuff that has been done. I really don't get why they would deploy like this.... please someone enlighten me 570

Hey Space, I'd be impressed if you would jump the Christ tower on your own. I would show up to join you if you do all the leg work and pay to get me out of jail 570

Sorry to burst your bubble Zennie but It's been done! I've been there and its quite nice! Actually I like being at the top platform and seeing everything around me, ecstacy on many fronts, rather than being trapped in a little squirrel cage! Oh, be careful too if you get too crazy you can bust the elevator! I guess I'm in the 1/4 mile club! Peace, 570

Experienced BASE jumper looking for contacts: I will be traveling to visit my GF's parents in the IOM the last couple of weeks in August. Anyone have any beta on this area? I would also like to make a few jumps in the UK while I'm over that way. Any brothers or sisters willing to show me around? Shoot me a PM if you can help. Thanks Jason BASE #570 Naked BASE #15 Night BASE #102

From the Bridge Day site.... Background Checks Background checks are needed because jumpers will be the only people permitted to carry "backpacks" on the bridge. When jumpers submit their names, date of birth, and SSN or passport numbers (if not a US citizen), this information will be used for a background check performed by the Sheriff. No background checks are needed if you registered and jumped at Bridge Day 2002 or 2003. Situations that would disqualify you from jumping would include: Outstanding felony warrants, previous arrests for explosives, terrorist-related activities, or similar records. Misdemeanor warrants for items such as traffic tickets, or prior arrests or convictions for BASE jumping offenses will NOT affect your jumping at Bridge Day. All SSN and passport number information will be destroyed immediately after background checks are performed. Isn't this a contradictory statement??? Are you destroying them or not? My guess is not It's not about giving the SS# out; it's about being lied to and taken advantage of by the government. 570
-
Just a thought.... On your website it states that if you jumped at Bridge Day 2002 or 2003 you don't have to supply your SSN or Passport #'s to be able to jump because they ALREADY have your information to do the BACKGROUND CHECK. I thought that the supplied SSN's were destroyed or disgarded after the initial background check for that year. How can they do a check if we are no longer in the 'system' or are we still in the 'system'? Looks like we was lied to 570

There have been many discussions about this topic here and on Blinc and I think the consensus was that slider up short delays are an off heading opening just waiting to happen. If your only wanting a 2-3 second delay I would stick to slider down no question about it. 550ft is a bit short to be doing a slider up off an "A", if you can go higher and take a longer delay so your farther from the object when you open and you have more speed to give you a cleaner deployment. Another tip is to calculate your opening altitude to be between wires, this might come in handy if you have another off heading! It's much easier to do with a 2sec. slider down jump than a 2sec slider up one. peace, 570 ps hitting towers sux!

Sure they do... You just have to really want it Especially in the winter! 570 And get my brand new BJ wet, right? like I said... you have to really want it. By the way don't all good BJ's get you wet? Jason BASE 570 Naked BASE #15 (I qualified *here* in Oct. a few years ago. Brrrr.)

Um, why did you decide this would be no problem? In my limited experience doing and watching these type of jumps, it seems that a minor wind, one that won't even move a hanging canopy, won't be a huge factor in the openings as long as you have a good launch and keep tension on the lines. This might be totally wrong but we don't have enough data to have a definite answer one way or the other since these type of jumps are so new. What are your thoughts on wind and rollovers, Tom? I think the less the better, zero is ideal but they are doable with a slight wind. Slight meaning, not enough to move the hanging canopy. We're all guinea pigs.... by choice of course!! 570

Man I swear it seems like everybody in the Carolinas is busting their ASS lately... no pun intended! Happy B-Day bro sorry I missed it, glad to hear you guys went out and banged out a few. Don't worry about your ass picture on my girlfriends screensaver, you might want to be a little more concerned about where I sent it to recently... You'll find out soon! Peace Jason BASE 570
