So who's watching the start of the Olympics tonight?
SkyDekker replied to skymama's topic in The Bonfire
I agree Nick, was not impressed at all. it was so typical canadian and really brought nothing new. I am happy that we acknowledged the First Nations, but from a country that is as multicultural as Canada, it would have been nice if not only the natives welcomed them athletes. (Never mind that the chiefs were late, they were even granted head of state status.) The mounties, the white, the all Canadian images. I really hoped that we would have showcased more than the tired and same images we have been showing the world for decades. I too fell asleep and completely missed the one things I wanted to see, the lighting of the flame. (Really, the back of a pick up truck?) -
I'll pass, been there, done that and have the scars to prove it. I live my relatively simple life as opposed to winning the lottery and having every long lost cousin begging for money for their sick son. Or siblings not being happy with the amount given, or parents who demand more. Nothing would be good enough, more would always be demanded. Greed is part of the human makeup and it hardly ever turns out to be positive.

nice Silver in Men's Moguls....never mind that the dude is really canadian lol (And one weird MF...please whatever you do, don't show emotion)
-
I honestly hope to never win the lottery. It would bring nothing but misery and pain.

He got himself fat, nobody else force fed him food. These are the consequences of not being able to control what you put in your mouth. Whatever happened to personal responsibility?

U.S. was Warned of Predator Drone Hacking

He wasn't that opposed in the US. As a matter of fact, many prominent American families got very rich doing business with him. -
John, Do you feel prostitution should be legal as well? Do you feel abortions should be legal? Do you feel drugs should be legal? All three have shown that laws cannot abolish them. Do you agree that banning is futile and all three should just be better managed?
-
So? All those questions result in a person defending a statement they never made, which is also known as putting words in somebody's mouth.
-
Lots of people are employed administring welfare programs, administring foodstamp programs, medicaid, lots of people employed by Non-profit organizations helping the poor. There are a lot of jobs generated by poor people.
-
Nothing, just proving that even with a question mark at the end of a sentence, you can put words in somebody's mouth, so to speak.
-
Not at all, thankfully there are engineers who do understand.
-
Right, cause every merge that doesn't result in a crash is the same.

So who's watching the start of the Olympics tonight?
SkyDekker replied to skymama's topic in The Bonfire
I'll be watching for sure!!! Love the olympics. Will especially be watching Hockey, long track and short track skating, skiiing, snow boarding.....well pretty much everything but curling -
Did you finally stop raping women JR? Did you get acquited for murder JR? When were you discharged from the Mental Hospital JR? When did you get those feelings that you just have to suck dick? When did you become a terrorist and start hating America?
-
This is simply not true. At least one study has shown that departure flow from the merge point decreases when the traffic jam gets longer. In other words, the longer people sit in traffic, the less curteous they become, the less they let people into the live lanes, the less traffic flows. Edited to add: behaviour in free flow traffic and behaviour in congested traffic are different. Hence conclusions drawn from one cannot be carried to the other.
-
See in real life, it would make the person directly behind him hit the brakes (and the idiot beside him do a sympathy brake), which makes the cars behind them brake even harder, etc In congested traffic you have now created a traffic jam. A curteous merge would not have had that effect. Just cause sand and water behaves that way, doens't mean traffic with humans driving behaves that way.....
-
Absolutely, when I try and merge and the car beside me speeds up when I do and slows down when I do, that doesn't effect the flow of traffic at all.......
-
Yup, that's what I was trying to say. Don't even get me started on "Sympathy Braking". Bill, from an Academic Standpoint, I am sure you are 100% correct. What you aren't accounting for in your calculations is that the average human being in North America was given their DL with a box of Cheerios (Or in Toronto as soon as the stepped off the boat) and has no clue how to drive.
-
If this was the 60s I'd be asking you to share the acid.....
-
Nonsense. The stopping occurs because people don't leave room for other's to merge. Riding some body's bumper to make sure they cannot get in front of you. It is that behaviour that actually slows traffic. Filling up the dying lane with traffic actually speeds traffic up. Assuming people can be polite enough to allow people to merge.
-
Absolutely. What I meant was that traffic would move faster if all would drive to the end of the ending lane (keep in mind this does not have to be an on ramp) and then be allowed to merge. If both lanes are heavy, the zipper (one for one) works fastest, and in my world that scenario isn't that rare. What holds up traffic is the idiots that want to merge prior to the ending of the lane, now stopping traffic behind them etc.
-
I see it as a positive, guess you see it as a negative.

Uhmm, it is the quickly growing middle class that is driving economic growth in most emerging markets. This very much includes China, actually it accounts for the majority of the growth, India is up there as well. You may read up on it here: http://knowledge.wharton.upenn.edu/article.cfm?articleid=2011

Funny thing is, the only one whining here is you. (And I would accept a senator's appointment from any party from extreme left to extreme right, it's cash for life)
-
I think it is pretty clear that traffic merges faster if it follows the pattern of a zipper, specially in heavy traffic. Stay in the lane until it ends, move over.
