How did you end up in Speakers Corner on Dropzone.com? Nothing filled out in your profile, no posts regarding jumping. You certainly wouldn't be the only non-jumper here, just wondering how you found the place?
-
Zimmie? Guy certainly seems to have a knack for attracting people who want to do him harm.

I think neither is the correct answer. Not pre-juding the situation and following your training is probably a better answer. After that life is like skydiving. You can do everything right and still die.

Texas worries about federal troops invading state
SkyDekker replied to jclalor's topic in Speakers Corner
Why would caution be required? Texans can't control themselevs and will shoot someone when angry? I mean looks like you are governed by an idiot down there, but I am sure that doesn't make all Texans idiots. -

And nearly every damn one of those morons is packing' so do be careful. I thought that meant everybody is very polite. Not so sure why you feel a need to post a very thinly veiled threat. -
I get it, throwing in a lie to make a point isn't a big deal. Did you see how often Hillary lies? That is a disgrace. Can't stand liars.
-
Well, now we have two versions. You are claiming it is an admitted lie, with no backup whatsoever. We have TKs version, with at least an explanation and some sources. When your turn comes, your only response is: Have some more cool (sp) aid. Time to back up your admitted lie....or I guess you'll have to admit lieing.

Woman fails crucial test for FDNY is still passed.
SkyDekker replied to promise5's topic in Speakers Corner
Maybe, or maybe it is just a nice barrier to entry cloaked as a test. Meh, the majority of the job is not running into burning buildings and dragging people up stairs and out of them. Those are relatively rare scenarios. So if a firefighter does the regular day to day stuff, it still doesn't mean he can drag that body up the stairs in a burning building. Which means we are back to the test not meaning much. -

Looks like we dont need rambo, to stop a mass murder just one traffic cop a side arm, and some well placed shots. You believe that one data point makes the basic premise false? Then one data point would also validate the premise. You copied it from an incident in which the data point was valid. Hence, you are basically arguing with yourself. I am happy a police officer was able protect and serve his community in this case. -

Doesn't matter if it is reviewed. If not meeting the standard has no influence on whether you keep the job, the review is useless. A basic standard you need to meet once in your life, never to have to meet it again. Which makes the basic standard useless. When the unions start agreeing to terminate employment of those firefighters who are not able to meet the minimum standard, the standard is basically useless and certainly not critical or crucial. -

I am saying that no NYFD firefighter is getting fired due to any physical issue. Hence any physical test cannot be indicative of the ability to do the job. Hence, the test being discussed is likely more ritualistic/hazing than serving any other purpose. NYFD firefighters are apparently doing a good enough job to keep their job without being able to complete this test. -

The Firefighter Games are probable more worthy of this test than the actual job. Like I have said many times before. If this test was so incredibly crucial, it would be repeated once on the job. Clearly for the NYFD physial fitness is not that important for the actual job, since there is no real tangible requirement to maintain it once you have the job. Hence the test is arbitrary and probably kept more as tradition than anything else. And yes most of the times firefighters are playing games, and cooking and getting paid to work out, wash the truck etc. -

Anybody can go on the internet and claim responsibility for anything. I claim responsibility for this post. No proof of that! pfff, it is on the Internetz it has to be true fosho. -

You believe you did, but you don't know. We have no idea if the test has any actual bearing on the ability to do the job. Most Fire Departments don't test ever again. Sounds like the test is more ritual/hazing than anything performance related. I don't believe in lower test standards for different groups. I further don't believe in random tests that have no bearing on the job being tested for. -

Which is exactly why I have a hard time with the label of "crucial" or "critical". I like the stance of your chief as well as the idea of light duty postings (plus no promotions) until you can pass the test, with a limiting time frame. -

You don't think that a governor without a sufficient backbone to stand up to right wing idiots with conspiracy theories is a problem? Interesting. -

Firefighters with NYFD never get tested again, so we have no way of knowing if the firefighters who show up could actually pass this test. Actually most Fire Departments have no physical testing for active firefighters. -

Nothing, unless the test doesn't accurately reflect the ability to do the job and makes it specifically harder for women to pass. -

The annual medical test for NYFD includes a 5 minute step test. That's it for physical testing. There is an annual physical evaluation, yet those evaluations go pretty much nowhere and firefighters certainly don't get pulled off the job based on those. Hard to describe a test as critical or crucial if it is a one time deal and is never tested for again during their career. Would love to see this firefighter perform this crucial test: http://issuehawk.com/igor/2014/09/20/firefighter-who-attacked-postal-worker-yelled-youre-nothing-but-a-fcking-ngger-is-cleared-of-hate-crime-charges.html#! Dude is 300 pounds of solid fat. -

No set the standard where it should be to measure for minimum ability to do the job. Then, restest on an annual basis and terminate employment for those unable to attain the minimum standard. Now, this test being so critical, you have to show ability to pass it annually right?
