If it's on the inside of your arm then it's probably the harness slamming into your arms when the canopy is opening. Tighten your chest strap more, then loosen it back up after your main opens and you unstow your brakes.

Students aren't required to have "student" AADs, just an AAD. Often many DZs will rent the same gear students use out to experienced skydivers and so they'll have expert AADs in them. Some AADs like Vigils can be toggled between modes, others like Cypres can't. How AADs work is hugely complex. That and they can and do and will continue to kill people who otherwise would've lived if they weren't flying with an AAD. So AAD makers tend to be very conservative and program the units to be an absolute last minute "you're gonna die if I don't do something" backup and spend a lot of time making sure the units work in a way that won't interfere with a skydiver's EPs and normal jump routines. Also, part of that design is to be idiot proof, because skydivers are human and make moron mistakes. Hence the preset, well tested, non-user defined firing altitudes that they come available in.

Ahh, gotcha. That makes sense.

I'd be really surprised if AT&T wasn't using their own network backbone for data considering they're one of the biggest network providers in the nation. Also I really doubt the bandwidth bottleneck is not enough fiber in the ground. My T-Mobile phone has a soft cap of 10 gigs per month. I do that per day on my landline cable internet access pretty regularly. More likely it's just that all these new smartphones are using a shit ton of data and the phone carriers can't scale fast enough. Throw in tethering to laptops and it gets even worse.
-
That's going to be pretty location specific though. I think you're going to need to A> Choose your network and then B> Find a phone that works with it. SNL is based in New York and I'm sure the AT&T network in that city has been slammed by iPhone usage.

I think it's about the motive behind the behavior. If you're being nice to a girl just because you're like that to all your male and female friends, it's just you being you. If she doesn't like that, then she's doing you a favor by not being interested in you. You'll be much better off with someone that values and returns it. On the other hand, a lot of guys go into nice "I'm such an amazing guy, see?" mode because they want to fuck the girl and they're basically trying to sugar their way into her pants. A lot of women are totally turned off by that. It's actually a pretty dishonest way to approach a relationship. Depends on when you do it. I mean, there's nothing like the pressure of being put on the spot with someone going "Oh, I totally am into you" when you're still figuring out whether or not you can tolerate their shit. Romance takes time. Let it simmer and heat up.

iPhone is a BSD kernel, just like Mac OS X. Android is based on the Linux kernel. So yeah, they're both basically Unix. Android hardware support is done on the phone carrier level at the moment. For service on my G1 I'd just take it into any T-Mobile store. The Droid phones would be serviced by Verizon, etc. I think that's one reason why Google wants to do one themselves, to completely control the hardware/software experience like Apple does with the iPhone. iPhone support is very good, if you have a problem just go to the Apple store. Same with their desktops. I don't knock the Apple experience in that regard. It's just, I can do things like tether my laptop to my Android phone without jail breaking or rooting the phone. It's a more open platform.

Yeah, I owned both. They're basically the "same" when it comes to what they bring for day to day use. GPS, emailing, navigation, app store, web, etc etc. Apple just locks you in pretty hard, but for most people that's a non-issue. Don't know if I'd go so far to say it's just rumor, they're already out in the field: http://www.nexusoneblog.com/blog/2009/12/21/nexus-one-unboxing.html But we'll see one way or the other in a couple weeks.
-
Android phones are basically iPhones without the Apple lock in. If you can wait a month or two, Google should be coming out with their own branded Android phone. It's called the Nexus One. http://www.nexusoneblog.com/

I've been using this: http://loilo.tv/product/1/desc It's really easy to work with and if you have a recent nvidia card it's fast. It has a free trial so you can play with it.

So basically a 2 year wait between deciding you want to be an AFFI and becoming one, no matter how long you're been in the sport or your jump #'s, etc etc. And you can still be an AFFI without much skill or dedication. Just get your ratings and sit on them til the time requirements pass by. In fact, it'd be in your best interest to get a coach rating at 200 jumps and not use it just on the off chance you want to AFFI later on. It'll shave a year off your requirements.
-
So get the intro ratings, sit around on them doing nothing, then auto-qualify for the higher end ratings just because time passes. Don't think time in sport is such a great measurement. It discounts skill, aptitude and dedication which should all be part of an instructor rating.

Wow, pretty. The bike too. Now chop the tail so you don't look like a newb.

You can buy used gear that's WL appropriate, jump it a hundred jumps and sell it for about what you paid. Money isn't a factor here. Actually, if you really look for good deals and take your time, you can even make money doing this. Make offers, buy low, use it for a bit, sell high. Sorry man, you're way more likely to get burned on that main I landed out Sunday, tight spot with a fence I didn't see til coming in and had to land my main in a partial flat turn to avoid the fence. Knew I could do that because I've flown the shit out of that thing and just PLF'd it out with a small leg scrape. WL isn't about stand up landings. It's about what you can handle in a shit situation. It's about being able to make a radical move, when you need to, and get out okay because you have the jump experience for that speed of canopy. A 1.5 WL is way hot for your experience level and it'll bite you hard once you get in over your head.

We need before and after pics to confirm this.

Probably because they A> probably wouldn't remember that after a few months of fun jumping and B> AFF students are already overwhelmed with information to learn. Someone off AFF really only knows the bare basics and it's about all you can manage to learn. I feel really lucky I had good instructors looking out and mentoring me off student status and beyond.

While I think it's true that you're responsible for your own happiness, if your girlfriend/boyfriend doesn't make you happier then it's time to fire them and find one that does.

You're having playback issues? It's probably your computer. Check out the below links and see if the 1080p version is jerkier than the lower res ones. 1080p http://sebflock.com/vids/Gravity.mp4 720p http://sebflock.com/vids/Gravity_720.mp4 480p http://sebflock.com/vids/Gravity_SD.mp4 They're all the same video and encoded the same way, just at different resolutions. There's a guy at my DZ having issues with his vids being jerky to the point where it's hard to edit them. Pretty sure it's his computer too, even though it's a 6 month old $1500 Dell laptop.

Nope, never. If I don't have trust in you, then there's no point in continuing the relationship.
-
It totally depends on the relationship. If it's just a friend or a girl that's I'm not serious with, never. It'd be an invasion of privacy. Serious relationship girl or wife, yeah, it shouldn't be an issue.

Great, I'm leading a kayaking trip that weekend

I'm not sure I could do the alphabet backwards sober.

I think the main draw, at least for me anyway, was how easy they are to attach and use. I owned a HC-40 but never jumped it because I never got around to mounting it to the uncomfortable camera helmet I bought for it. With the gopro, just slap it on any old helmet and go.

I used to have an interest in owning a horse at one point so I'd read the horseback forums for Florida. In one forum the women there were lamenting that there's no men in the sport, outside of the business side of it. So yeah, that definitely happens.

Of course it's a society stereotype. Doesn't mean that it doesn't have a real impact and both men/women don't worry over how they'll be seen in their social settings. And some of the stereotypes can have a strong genetic basis too. So they'd be something you couldn't just "this is how we want it to be" out of existence.
