  1. Might have nothing to do with it...but if I don't hydrate enough I feel like crap when I try and crank out more than 5 jumps in a day. AND as we get older we develope more allergies and the like. Just a thought. chuck
  2. I went through the Tandem progression at Hemet and loved it. I had done several Tandems for fun in the past but these were working jumps. I considered the extra cost, but in the long run I think it may have been cheaper. I didn't have to repeat any of the jumps and went right through the progression. I just felt it was one less thing to worry about at the beginning. Even after having done tandems and being a private pilot. I figured the tandem master planned on going home in one piece at the end of the day so I would live through it also. chuck Canis meus id comedit
  3. I seem to recall an "OUT, IN, ARCH!" from AFF. But I am getting old and forgetful...or is that just deaf? chuck Canis meus id comedit
  4. Not sure if this helps but my Wings rig had a PD143R in it previously. Now it contains a Smart 160. Fits about the same. Wasn't any harder to get in the bag. chuck Canis meus id comedit
  5. Lots of time and money to burn? I'd go to Perris and spend a couple weeks in the tunnel and taking the AFF course. I'd check out the Perris school and Jim Wallace's. Can't say enough about Jim...if I was putting my Mom out the the door, she'd be strapped to Jim. 'Nough said. The weather in So Cal and out at Eloy is "almost" always great, so no question about getting up, and they both have top rate gear stores to help her burn some more of that cash she isn't short of. Gear that fits is kind of nice. First things first....get her on a tandem so she can check it out. Locally would probably be a good idea. Hell...she might hate it. Yeah right. chuck Canis meus id comedit

    Gas Prices?

$2.09 yesterday in Delaware when I filled up my Honda (bike...not car). I'm glad I decided not to sell my motorcycle last winter. You ever notice that when the barrel price increases, the pump price gets jacked up immediately? Even if it takes that barrel a month to travel to the US and get refined? If the barrel price goes down...how long does it take for the pump price to lower? If ever... chuck Canis meus id comedit
  7. That's actually a Psycho Pack. Used this technique until I got my Cobalt. I just love the look on people's faces when I start to roll it up. It is easy to shove in the bag... chuck Canis meus id comedit
  8. At least we keep Epson in the ink business. That isn't exactly portable... Nice to know that not EVERYBODY shoots Nikon. Thanks be to Canon. chuck Canis meus id comedit
  9. For quick 4X6 prints a have an Epson PictureMate that goes with me everywhere. It produces digital prints that look just like silver in under a minute. Takes cards or direct connect to the computer AND it so small it fits in a camera bag. Epson sells the paper and ink together and each print costs around $0.26. For larger prints...Epson 2200. Up to 13X19 and will take a REAL thick paper stock if you feed it one sheet a a time. $.02 chuck Canis meus id comedit
  10. Did you search past threads? http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/safety/detail_page.cgi?ID=109
  11. It should have been caught on an equipment check. It is quite obvious what mode it's set on. Lets not have some knee-jerk reaction to something that training should cover.
  12. You are gonna hear this alot...Ask your instructors. They are the only people (and some coaches) that have seen you jump/land and know your skills. Having said that, I got my room mate a Tri 160 years ago and she still says it was the easiest thing she's ever landed. So, check at your DZ for their opinion. If you don't get it, PM me...I might grab another rig. Can't have too many. chuck Canis meus id comedit.
  13. I have an Alti II in my car all the time. Great fun driving through tunnels and across mountain ranges (even took it snowboarding at Squaw Valley...zeroed out at sea level). Since I always take gear with me when I travel, I always have an altimeter on commercial flights. Pressure is usually between 3,500 and 4,700 feet (MSL). Except Southwest of course...I forget if they pressurize their cabins.
  14. WD-40 isn't really a lubricant at all, it's a Water Displacement (hense WD). It kicks butt if you have a nut and bolt that have rusted together (yeah, I know...liquid wrench). But it smells better than liquid wrench and you can use it to clean your tools. WD-40 plays hell with firearms. It gums up when it gets in contact with Cordite residue. Fine if you like cleaning after every few shots. As for the Food Grade Silicone, I use the canned stuff from the Scuba shop. Works on all my gear, above and below the water, just not at the same time.
  15. Just a heads up...The NOVA didn't sell. In fact, it didn't get one bid. I guess nobody had a spouse they wanted to give it to? chuck Canis meus id comedit
  16. I'm a commercial photographer by trade and all my equipment is insured through Tom Pickard & Co.. They specialize in Photo gear and know what things are worth and what it means when gear goes down or is lost. (and no, I don't get kickbacks) As for my rigs, they get covered by my home owner's policy. Hope this helps. chuck Canis meus id comedit.
  17. Well, hell...I didn't say I wouldn't have bid on it. I just wasn't in the office when the auction closed. Besides....it is an interesting looking canopy. chuck Canis meus id comedit.
  18. meekerseeker clearly stated in the auction the conditions that she determined the canopy to be unairowrthy. She was VERY clear that this should not be jumped. However, she based this on her putting lots of jumps on the canopy before and after it went south, not from the condition of the canopy. Hell, if a rigger were to give it the once over it may look perfectly serviceable. She did everything she could to inform the bidder that this sucker would hurt them. Now, perhaps we should start removing the Orange ID Panel when we sell something that shouldn't be jumped? The military cuts the lines on demilitarized gear. That's also an option. Either way, let's find this canopy this weekend. Worry about who did what wrong when we know nobody is throwing their ass out of an airplane with this in their rig. Just my $.02 chuck Canis meus id comedit.
  19. Maybe each DZ can have a special waiver stating, "I am aware that jumping this canopy makes me a complete ass, and that the probability that I will become a vegetable is highly likely. I have been advised by DZ staff that, in the event of my injury under said canopy, all my gear becomes the property of the DZO to cover the bad press they incurred because I'm a shit head". Oh, and get him saying it on video. It's like leaving a note before intentionally going in. Won't work but will prove Darwin's theory. chuck Canis meus id comedit.
  20. I have no problem with the Federal minimum wage, IF we get a corresponding tax credit. I understand that the Fed needs this money to operate, so where should we get these extra duckets? Well! Let us CUT the wages of the House and Senate (including all their retirement benefits). That would more than make up for the shortfall. Oh wait! The House and Senate are the ones voting on this huh? Oh hell...never mind. chuck Canis meus id comedit.
  21. Even purchased CDs aren't legal to be used for reproduction and resale (as in tandem videos). You would have to contact the publisher for permission to use them professionally. I don't see them coming after you either way. Of course, your mileage may vary...
  22. It doesn't pull the string tight by pulling OUT or away from center as centrifugal implies. The mass wants to move in a strait line moving FORWARD at 90 degrees to the axis. Try centripetal not centrifugal. It's what causes planets to orbit one another. Real simple physics.
  23. I still can't get over how many physics classes in college still teach centrifugal force. Um hello! Ain't no such thing!
  24. I'm on jump numer 16 doing a solo out of a C-206 and a student is on his final Hop-n-Pop. Out the door, stable, pull...total crap. Cut it, Reserve, no problems. He even landed in the peas. Kind of neat to watch up close like that. Gave me faith in the reserve. He was perfectly calm about the whole thing. More than his family was, watching from the DZ.
  25. I wrapped my ankle after a bad step into a gopher hole @ Perris. Turned a great shade of purple...it even matched my main. Follow your instructors directions and watch your step AFTER landing. You'll be fine.
